About this property
Charming cottage with enclosed garden in peaceful countryside. Pet welcome.
THE LOCATION
Situated in an ideal spot deep in the Breton countryside, but only a few kilometres from the coast and beautiful beaches. A few minutes' drive north will take you to the medieval village which was voted the most beautiful village in France in 2016: Rochefort-en-Terre. A few minutes' drive south will take you to the banks of the river Villaine including the Port de Foleux and La Roche-Bernard, 2 lovely sites of outstanding beauty. Other touristic delights await you in the gorgeous, walled, medieval port of Vannes not forgetting the megaliths of Carnac and Gavrinis South-West of Vannes and the "Parc naturel de la Briere" to the South. The most beautiful location in the region is however the famous “Golfe du Morbihan” with its countless islands and splendid beaches.
For golf lovers, there is even a golf course near the nearby village of Caden and it is only 5km to the nearest major supermarket.
THE ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation is accessed via your own, private front-door leading into the lounge/dining room and a good-size mezzanine bedroom above. Through double, glass doors on the ground floor is a fully equipped kitchen and, to the side, is the bathroom. The cottage is completely independent of our house, but it is attached to it. This means that we, the owners, are on hand to help out with any requests for information or to help with difficulties including language problems since we are both bilingual English-French.
The bedroom is a sizeable, airy space overlooking the cottage garden and the countryside. There is a comfortable double bed. Pillows, quilts and linen are all included. A fold-away cot can be provided for a baby. There is a large wardrobe with plenty of hanging space for your clothes and it also contains additional bedding in case of a cold snap. The bathroom is downstairs, but there is a washbasin in front of the bedroom window. The head of the stairs is not closed with any kind of gate so, while babies are welcome, the property is not really suitable for small, mobile children.
Everything is provided for casual self catering, with all cutlery and crockery, a toaster, coffee machine, a kettle and a refrigerator. The kitchen is fully equipped with a full-sized cooker and a dish-washer.
The washing machine, folding drier, iron and board and cleaning equipment are all located in this part of the cottage. Then there is the lounge area with a sofa and easy chairs where you can sit and drink beer, cider or wine after a long day's exploring. We still brew beer next door and are happy to share it with our guests (supplies permitting). The television is tuned to French (TNT) satellite channels and there are other non-French channels available. There is also a DVD player and a good library of English and French DVDs.
OUTSIDE
The garden is self-contained and fenced, which makes it perfect for a dog. We also have a Swiss Shepherd, which is the most docile and friendly of animals and who loves human company. The garden also comprises a small paved area with garden furniture, a parasol and a barbecue.
We are members of Brittany Ferries "Club Voyage" which, at the time of writing, allows us to recommend friends and associates for a 10% discount of the cost of the crossing. This does not apply to cabins, meals, etc.
Danièle and Mike look forward to welcoming you at La Tanière.

About the host
Hosted by Mike and Danièle

We came to Brittany in 2016 after having spent most of our lives in Dorset. My name is Daniele. I am French and have returned to my place of birth after 42 years in England where, naturally, I taught French. My husband, Mike, is English and was also a teacher, but who now is following the more noble calling of brewing British beers in France.
We both speak French and English and are able to offer French lessons at all levels. We are always available next door for help and advice.

Why they chose this property
We chose this house because of its perfect location. Situated deep in the gorgeous Breton countryside while still close to countless tourist attractions such as fabulous beaches such as Damgan and Pen Lan. We are only a few minutes drive from the famous medieval village of Rochefort-en-Terre, voted the most beautiful village in the whole of France in 2016. A few minutes drive South will take you to the banks of the river Villaine including the Ports of Foleux and La Roche-Bernard, both famous for their outstanding beauty. To the West, you will find the impressive walled city and medieval port of Vannes which gives access to the most stunning location of the region, the "Golfe Du Morbihan", an enormous gulf with countless beautiful islands with their own warm micro climate and numerous pristine beaches.
Throughout the region, lovers of megaliths can enjoy visiting some stunning neolithic sites such as Carnac and the island of Gavrinis.

What makes this property unique
Our house is a traditional "longère", a long farmhouse, entirely renovated and consisting of 3 distinct dwellings: our house and 2 "gites". We only have 2 neighbours, so the place is very quiet apart from bird songs and the occasional barking dog.
The house itself has been lovingly restored and has kept many original features.
The huge garden stands on a hill which means the view from the terrace is breathtaking. You can see the fields and woods miles out and enjoy the most spectacular sunsets while having your evening drink on warm summer evenings.
