About this property

Green Castle cabin on the Shenandoah River

Nestled into a hill on the banks of the Shenandoah River, this cabin was purpose-built for river-side vacations. You can relax and chat with friends on the screened-in porch or roast marshmallows around the nearby fire pit while listening to the river in the background. Stacked, dried firewood is available for you to use for a small fee. Inside, you'll find a fully-equipped kitchen that flows into the dining area and living room complete with satellite and cable TV and a gas fireplace. From the cozy living area, you have a wonderful view of the yard and river through the beautiful window wall. Rest up from a day of enjoying the great outdoors in one of the three comfortable bedrooms or in a chair on the large deck overlooking the river. The cabin also features wood flooring and trim, a cathedral ceiling in the living area, and tile floors in the modern, fully-furnished bathrooms. Outside, there's a gas grill for grilling hamburgers, a huge open yard, and - did we mention? - the riverbank so you can wade right out or take the canoes out with ease.

Great stay!!

This house was the perfect spot for a long getaway with friends! The open floor plan on the first floor is great for hanging out and the views are perfect with the windows surrounding it! I would definitely stay here again.

Great stay

Hi. We had a great time and loved the location and fire pit. Only issue was the low supply of toilet paper and trash bags.

Beautiful!

Waking up to enjoy coffee, looking out the windows at the river, was positively tranquil. This was our first real time out of the house amidst the Covid19 quarantine and we couldn’t have picked a more peaceful location. The house is tucked away but close enough to enjoy an afternoon in town. Thanks for a great getaway at one of our favorite places to visit!

Amazing

The property was perfect. Amazing views and right on the river. Very clean and very well equipped. We enjoyed it so much we already booked the cabin again. The Shenandoah team is also very responsive to your questions which I appreciated. I really have no complaints other than I wish we had stayed longer. Thank you for allowing us to stay in this gorgeous cabin.

Wonderful for privacy and being riverfront

The weather did not cooperate with our trip, but everything else was terrific. We used the firepit and the deck and enjoyed those outside areas. A heron came each morning to sit in the river and that was a nice addition. Everything was clean and spacious and it's nice to have a place with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well. Be sure to drive and visit some of the small towns around as they are charming.

Delightful stay at Green Castle

Our extended family had a great vacation at Green Castle. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and listening to the river. Nightly bonfires were a must as the children devoured smores. My son fished to his heart's content right in front of the house. He and friends used the canoes to paddle from the bridge to the house followed by a cookout! The children used floats to go on the river from the house to the pullout .5 miles away. Thanks for letting us share your lovely home.

Love this place!

The setting at the Green Castle cabin is incredible; when you sit on the deck or in the great room in the cabin, you are overlooking the beautiful Shenandoah River. The view of the river shining in the dappled sunlight is amazing. There are many trees and usually a nice breeze - I can't imagine a more relaxing place. If you are in the house, the window wall makes you feel like you are still outside next to the river. The area is very quiet and peaceful. Kevin was very helpful with questions and requests. We always enjoy the town of Luray, especially walking the greenway in the evening. Shenandoah River State Park is also a favorite destination of ours. I was truly sad the morning that our visit was over. We definitely want to stay here again!

Great Weekend Getaway

Our overall impression of the property was fantastic. Location is very private and on the river - beautiful view. The house feels fairly new and is very well-kept. The Jacuzzi tub in the second floor master bedroom is exceptional. The hot tub outside is also nice, but it is on the ground level and requires that you walk down a flight of steps to get to and from. Obviously not a big deal in the summer/spring, but definitely makes you think twice in the winter months. Similar challenge if you have a dog, just keep in mind that you’ll be tracking up and down the steps every time the dog wants to go out. This house location is only 15 minutes from downtown Luray - very convenient. We did the tourist thing and visited the Luray canyons - definitely worth the trip. If you like cars the museum at the canyon is also worth a visit. Better yet, if you like whiskey it’s also worth a trip to the local town of Sperryville to visit the copper fox distillery. It isn’t that far of a ride and it’s a cool spot. We came in the month of November and it was fairly cold outside. The one thing that I didn’t get a chance to explore was fishing, but maybe next time. All things being consider we really enjoyed the house and thank the owner for his hospitality.

Meh!

The House was clean, had a nice firepit, WiFi, a hot tub that worked, comfy beds, a nice deck, and lots of light in the living area. It was right on the river and pretty private (one other cabin across the field). But... —the bedsheets were hot and gross (100% polyester) —the WiFi was spotty at best (it rained a lot), —there wasn’t enough toilet paper, dishwasher pods, paper towels or even laundrry detergent to last us even two days so we had to buy our own — the hot tub wasn’t super clean when we got there but after three days it was unusable —the river was very high when we were there (not the owners fault) but even so, there was no easy way to access the river so we didn’t use the kayaks (not enough life jackets) or even hang out by the river. —the property is just a rental and so the kitchen is not well outfitted (sparse cooking utensils) or stocked (we had to buy salt and other basic spices) —the bedrooms were stuffy (more fans needed) and not well lit and there was little to no soundproofing between rooms or the floor so sleeping in with early risers was a challenge. In short, it was fine but not worth the price. This is just a money maker with little to no charm. We will look elsewhere for that next time around. By the way, according to the tacky sign in the bathroom, they “count towels” (just in case you are someone in the habit of stealing inexpensive towels from your rentals!) For us, that sign epitomized the rental!

Bliss

I could not have asked for a better birthday retreat. It was everything I asked for and more. If you are seeking solitude, an opportunity to breathe and feel the stress ebb away, this is the place for you. I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting the owner who is very charming. I will be returning.

Excellent stay on the Shenandoah River South Fork

This cabin is prime real estate for floating the south fork on Luray. There is a public boat launch 8 miles up the road where you launch, and then float one of the best parts of the Shenandoah River back to the cabin. It is very beautiful here!!

Very Nice but Pics Need updating

I rated this lower because of the view and river access. Online the pics show a better view, but it has grown up (underbrush) A LOT and a fallen/dead tree is blocking a good portion of the river view. I was also disappointed in the access to the water. Although the description didn't mention easy water access I had hoped it would be easier. I fell trying to get down the steep slope and I feel I am a pretty active/flexible/rugged woman. If you are going mainly to relax with a view you get a better view on the deck but it is a small window compared to the pictures and definitely limited even more on the ground. Inside the home was nice.

Dirty Green Castle

The poor house cleaning prior to our arrival was an unexpected vacation start. It was dirty enough to make a trip into town for cleaning supplies which were left behind for the cleaning crew, all tables, countertops, kitchen appliances furniture tops had to be cleaned. Spiders don't bother me however if you're not willing to invest in pest control sprays then be prepared to remove spider webs as part of cleaning the cabin. We removed most all of the spider webs inside the cabin on the window wall, ceiling fan and light fixtures. It was also obvious that previous guests had a dog, his nose prints were all over every lower window, we chose not to wash windows. The screen porch was the joke of the week, I pulled the vacuum cleaner out as there were literally hundreds of dead house flies at the bottom of the walls, the light fixture is half full of dead insects. There's so much spider web buildup on the ceiling fan we were taking bets on if it would rip itself off the ceiling. The topper was having a screen porch with NO Doors! It was a useless space after the sun went down. The hot tub has a problem and the jets don't work much at all, we did try it once but again no power from the jets and lots of sand on the inside were you sit. We only used one canoe, the second one has a lot of damage and looks like it will probably take on water. We enjoyed the location of the camp, it worked great for all our families activities. If you don't like spiders, this cabin isn't for you.

Family bonding

Family of four, two kids ages 8 and 9. My husband just returned from a deployment on a ship and the first thing he wanted to do was stay here and enjoy the great outdoors. We stayed for 7 days, the same week hurricane Ian hit Florida. We ended up getting 6 days of rain/mist/fog/overcast weather, but we didn't let ruin our trip. We still managed to walk a few trails in Shenandoah, mini golf and go carts in Massanutten, and visited Luray Caverns. We ended up cooking at the house most nights, the kitchen was fully equipped to make homemade meals and grill every night. We played board games every night, but make sure you bring them from home or stop at the local Walmart. The house was clean and well maintained outside too. We just wish the weather cooperated during our trip.
