About this property

THE GALLERY ROOM, The Ceramic House

Stunning artist’s house, award winning, and featured in many magazines, The Ceramic House is a work of art in itself. THE GALLERY ROOM is a self-contained bijoux en suite studio. Double bed, fabulous tiled bathroom. Coffee/tea, fridge, toaster, microwave, private patio. Free parking.
Very quiet. Bus stop right outside for easy transport into centre of town or 20 minutes' walk. Fiveways few minutes walk, with shops, cafes, restaurants. Walking/easy access to South Downs and golf course with views along the coast to Worthing Pier.

THE GALLERY ROOM features:
FREE PARKING on the street. This as as close as you can get to central Brighton and still have free on street parking. As the controlled parking has spread out from the centre of Brighton, it now reaches as far as the next road towards town, which means parking here is still free, but it can get busy. But you can still find parking to within a few minutes walk from the house.
SELF-CONTAINED STUDIO ROOM in the converted garage with its OWN PRIVATE ENTRANCE
WIFI, TV, DVD in room.
EN SUITE WETROOM tiled with Kay's Bamboo tile design
DOUBLE FUTON BED
TEA/COFFEE MAKING FACILITIES in the room, MINI FRIDGE, MICROWAVE, TOASTER for you to make your own breakfast. We do not provide breakfast, however there are several lovely cafes 5 minutes away at Fiveways or you can make your own.
Lovely linens, furnishings and towels
WIFI in room
BEAUTIFUL ARTWORKS - the gallery room is so called because it doubles as a white cube gallery whenever exhibitions are on
BUS STOP OUTSIDE HOUSE for buses straight into town
20 MINUTE WALK into central Brighton
SOUTH DOWNS/COUNTRYSIDE on the doorstep! Hollingbury Golf Course, 5 minutes from the house, brings the country into the city with a finger of green stretching from the South Downs to my house! So walkers can walk straight here off the Downs.

THE GALLERY ROOM
The Gallery room is a very cute, bijoux space. It’s not huge! But very cosy and perfectly suited to a single person or a couple who don't need a lot of space. As the name suggests, it is a white, modern room furnished with designer vintage fixtures and fittings and a futon sofa bed. Please note the bed is not suitable for couples who are very tall or of larger stature.

Since Kay started converting her home into a living work of art, she has installed permanent ceramic installations in nearly every room in the house and all over the garden. It is a Gaudiesque world!

The garden is really gorgeous. It is a double height patio with two terraces completely enclosed with mature climbers and flowers. It is a very private, lovely space full of artwork. Most of the garden has been covered with Kay's tiles and there are four different levels all with ceramic tables and chairs. It is quite magical, especially when the sun shines.

Occasionally the house turns into a living gallery and Kay invites renowned ceramic artists to exhibit their work here. At this time the Gallery becomes exactly that! Note: no exhibitions are planned until 2019.

FACILITIES
Breakfast is not included but there are several good cafes for breakfast within 5 minutes walk. Laundry facilities and kitchen facilities available for you to do your own cooking for stays of a week or more.

TRANSPORT/DIRECTIONS
There is plenty of free parking here on the street just round the corner from Fiveways, where there is a shop to suit every requirement. There are several lovely cafes/delicatessens and there are some great pubs nearby.
The number 50 and 50U buses stop on my street and take 10 minutes to get into the centre of Brighton. A lot more buses stop at Fiveways. Walking into the city centre takes 20 minutes or a 5 minute cycle ride.

NATURE/THE SOUTH DOWNS
At the end of my road is Hollingbury Woods and the Golf Course, which is where the South Downs begins. The South Downs is Britain’s youngest national park and the South Downs Way is a long distance walk and one of Britain’s national trails, running for 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne. It is very popular with walkers, and can be travelled on bicycle or horseback.

BRIGHTON ATTRACTIONS
Brighton has many attractions, including The Royal Pavilion, Brighton Pier, the beach. Brighton is great for cycling around, or just walking, taking in the Lanes and the wonderful pubs, shops and food.

There are so many festivals, there is something happening every weekend, including music, comedy, food, film festivals. Every May Brighton hosts the second biggest arts festival in the UK. Brighton is an end-destination for many races and vehicular rallies. There is also the London to Brighton bike ride every year as well as the Brighton marathon. All these events all end up on Madeira Drive, a promenade along the beach.

Great stay
Before arriving at the house the instructions were very clear and accurate. The house is lovely and full or ceramic art inside and out. Our hosts were out when we arrived but we felt comfortable and found everything we needed. There were leaflets in the room that helped us find our way in Brighton. We went on the bus which was only a 20 min journey into the heart of Brighton and the bus stop was very close to the house. Our hosts answered any questions very quickly and checked we were ok. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to chat much to our hosts but the general feeling was relaxed and welcoming. I would recommend a stay at the Ceramic House and would stay there again.

Beautiful, cosy place by the pier!
The Gallery Room was so lovely to stay in. It was great to be in the area as the pier was a walkable distance. Kay was absolutely fab as a host and the hospitality was superb. Thanks again, hope to visit soon!

About the host

I'm Kay, I am an artist and I am originally from Scotland. I have created The Ceramic House since I moved to Brighton in 2008. I am a ceramic artist and I create sculpture for public and private spaces. I live with my partner Joseph who is also an artist. He works in sound. We both make a living from our art. There is a very relaxed, friendly vibe here. I like having people to stay and you will feel most welcome and comfortable. My mottos are: to be surrounded by beauty at all times; attention to detail and I specialise in enthusiasm. We welcome guests who are considerate and friendly.

What makes this property unique

I decided to offer accommodation in my home after I put so much effort into turning it into an extraordinary, living work of art. I thought it would be nice to share it. You really need to see it to believe it! Most of the surfaces of the house, inside and out, have been covered in large-scale tiled installations, including all the bathrooms.
