The kitchen has a stove, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, pots and pans, cutlery, and all the utensils that you would need. A dish towel, dish cloth, and pot holder are provided, as well as dishwashing liquid and a roll of paper towels. A ceiling fan is installed in both bedrooms. The bedding, blankets, and pillows are provided. The bathroom has a shower, but no bathtub. A roll of toilet paper and a bar of soap are provided. Towels are NOT provided, so be sure to bring your own bath towels for the length of your stay. Although some life jackets are provided, be sure to bring the correct sizes with you for each person that will be boating. There is a permanent gas heater for your comfort on those chilly fall nights. A small electric space heater is also provided.

***BICYCLING ENTHUSIASTS***: The cottage is about a mile from the beginning of the Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System. Ride over 45 miles of paved trails connecting Boulder Junction with Manitowish Waters (west) and Sayner and St. Germain (south). The trail is fully paved and appropriate for all types of bicycles. The system includes the popular Crystal Lake Trail, which runs from downtown Boulder Junction past Trout Lake to the Crystal Lake Campground, where you’ll find a picnic area and beach. The new west portion of the trail is host to multiple scenic bridges and crosses over the rapids of the Manitowish River and Rice Creek. Also along this part of the trail system is Nichols Beach, a great place for picnicking and swimming.

Guest Access

WiFi access is provided. The playground, fire pit, and wooded area and state woods can be seen from your window. The water can be seen from every room in the cabin. A paddleboat and canoe are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Basketball, volleyball and other toys, games, and equipment are available. There is a fish cleaning house with a freezer, electricity, and sink for your use. We have 665 feet of shoreline in the resort you would have access to. There are 10 boat slips for 6 cottages, so there is plenty of room to bring boats and there is even a small boat launch on the property. A picnic table and a clean grill are waiting for you outside your cabin door. You will love having a cup of coffee on the screened-in porch in the morning watching the sunrise or a glass of wine in the evening. Or sit around the campfire at the communal fire pit making s'mores and relaxing!

This is a great cottage for the entire family or for any sorts of Anglers. Enjoy exploring all the beauty and wonder that Vilas County has to offer.

The Neighborhood

Surrounded by tall pines and beautiful, rolling countryside, the Manitowish Chain of Lakes is one of the most popular lake chains in Wisconsin's Northwoods region. The chain consists of 10 sparkling lakes known for great fishing along with breathtaking beauty and quiet seclusion for swimming, canoeing, camping, and bird watching. The cottage sits on the Manitowish River between 2 of these 10 lakes.

Directly across the Highway from Birch Hill Road about 1 mile from our cottage, is Little Star Beach. This gem of a beach is also reachable by boat.

The Manitowish Waters Airport and the local library are within 2.5 miles of this cottage, and the town of Manitowish Waters another half mile farther.

We are very close to the Little Bohemia Lodge, located just across from us on Hwy 51. It no longer offers lodging but still has a bar and restaurant. Historically known for the 1934 shootout between John Dillinger's gang and the FBI, it is now famed for its action packed scenes in the 2009 movie Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp.

20 miles north of Minocqua, this cottage is close to shopping, restaurants, theatre, golfing, skiing, horseback riding, casino, nature center, and trails for hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. Vilas County is known for its natural resources and beauty.

Getting Around

Parking is right outside the front door. Easy access by boat or car from the cottage to all 10 lakes in the beautiful Manitowish Chain as well as to the village of Manitowish Waters. Greer's Pier, a full service marina, is just a short way down Hwy 51.

Other Things to Note

This cottage stands on the peaceful Manitowish River between Rest Lake and Stone Lake which is a mandated NO-WAKE zone, assuring quality fishing off the pier and friendly waving at the slow-moving boats as they pass by quietly at the posted speed limit that protects the shorelines. Wisconsin has a building code requiring all new construction to be 75 ft. back from the water's edge. The cottage is only 25 ft. back and the forest of trees in your view are state woods so the view from this cabin is forevermore ensured.

Convenient and Charming Cabin
Cozy, convenient, and charming little fisherman’s cabin with a delightful screened porch overlooking the river. We had everything we could have needed or wanted during our week-long stay in September — including beautiful weather!
