Very peaceful, but we had a couple issues the propane grill needs replaced. Only had 3 out of 4 covers for the burner and the lid did not have a stop once opened it felt like grill was going to fall over. The hot tub is in poor condition out of 6 seats only 2 sets of jets were working and the cover is nasty and needs replaced. The pool stairs needs a good cleaning has green build up slime all around it. Was disappointed about the grill and hot tub I will never rent form 1st choice cabins again to much money for all the amenities to not be working. I hope this items are fixed before renting again.

Not very pleased. Check in was miscommunicated and 40min of our time wasted. Hot tub cover falling apart and smelled awful along with the water in hot tub smelling awful. The radio to the hot tub didn't work. The sauna didn't work. The dishwasher didn't work. The cabin was not very clean and multiple piles of dog poo in yard from guests before. I would love to attach pictures which were sent in another email but unable to attach on here. My family and friends were not very pleased to say the least. The property definitely needs some upgrades and amenities fixed so people can enjoy their vacation they are paying for.

Nice getaway

The property was beautiful and clean. This was a getaway mainly to spend time with our kids and grandkids. We cooked most of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. The pool and fire pit were very nice and we made good use of them. It was a nice place to get away and spend time with family.

love this house, we had 3 generations together, lots to do and plenty of room. you only need to bring food and personal belongings, the dock by the lake could use a littlework and maybe a gate so the dogs can"t escape. we will be back again.

Disappointment

We enjoyed ourselves very much. The House and property is beautiful, but the fireplace wasn't able to be used; the sauna didn't work and hot tub didn't work. It did not ruin our time but we were disappointed. We called for maintenance and no one ever called back or came out. And no one told us at check in that these things were an issue.

Wonderful for gatherings

We stayed with 16 people and 2 dogs, and were amazed at how spacious and well laid out the cabin was. It was single digits outside, but the whole cabin was comfortably warm. Some tips for future visitors: the yard is almost fenced off except for one set of stairs, we brought a baby gate to keep the dogs in. There are only two private queen bedrooms, so large groups like ours will want to think about sleeping arrangements ahead of time. The kitchen worked well for us, but a few people brought coolers to help with fridge space. There is a ton of space in the living and dining areas for extra storage if needed. The hot tub had trouble reaching its set temperature (understandable considering how cold it was), I’d recommend testing it first thing since it can take a while to warm up after figuring out the settings. 1st choice was very helpful with questions leading up to our stay, and on the first night when we called to make sure the main fireplace was still okay to use. This was an amazing place to stay in winter, and I imagine it’s also fantastic in summer given the pool and pond we were admiring from the backyard. We‘d be delighted to stay again, and perhaps make a tradition of it in years to come.

A nice lodge in a nice area

We stayed at the Chalet on the Hill for five days the last weekend of September, 2019. Let me say up front that we did enjoy our stay, including the location. It’s a scenic 10 min drive from Nelsonville. The property is impressive. A large front lawn reveals a lodge with lots of roof angles and attractive green steel roofing. The back of the property is a hill that drops off to a 3-acre pond, hidden down a short wooded path. Shore access for fishing is limited to about 100’, but we did catch some bass and bluegill. Closer inspection of the lodge exterior suggests a bit of neglect. The lawn was immaculate, but the foundation, walks, steps, etc., were somewhat overgrown with vines and weeds/grass. The roof gutters on the back of the house actually had vegetation growing out of them. The hot tub is under a balcony in the back. Here again the cover needed a good cleaning, but the tub looked good. Some reviews stated that the tub didn’t heat up properly, and that was the case with us also. The inside of the lodge was spacious, rustic and clean. We did have a cable/satellite connection and could watch what we wanted (football!). Wi-fi also worked well. Cell phone coverage (Verizon) was hit or miss. The lodge is described as having 5 bedrooms, but that is misleading in that the one bedroom is actually a loft that is open to the room below. We specifically wanted 5 private bedrooms and actually ended up paying quite a bit more for this lodge over a comparable property that was advertised as having 4 bedrooms and a loft. One significant issue our group experienced is that although it is listed as capable of sleeping 16 occupants, there were only 8 forks and 8 spoons available. So the flatware was woefully inadequate. We addressed this with the owner upon checkout, and he said it would be taken care of immediately. About the owner - one reviewer referred to him as a “creeper” that spied on them constantly. That was NOT our experience. The owner stopped by one afternoon for just a few minutes. We never saw anyone other than that. Furthermore, I communicated some questions to the owner(s) throughout our visit by using the VRBO phone app. They always responded promptly, so I have absolutely no issue here. Our damage deposit was also refunded without issue. Checking in and out was a snap!! Overall, I would recommend this property to anyone considering this area, and I would rent here again.

Lots to do

We had planned to have 7 of us there but due to some spring head colds only 4 could make it. The house was huge. Definitely well loved. Loved the access to the lake and the catch and release fish. Lots to do on the property and around. Spent time in Athens and Logan. Next time we’d like to come when the poolIs open.

Overall a very pleasant stay.

Our family enjoyed our time at this cabin. The kids loved the space available and when it rained they could each sneak off to a corner or the loft with an iPad or something. Kids enjoyed fishing, plenty of bluegill/sunfish and a few small bass. Kids stayed busy. The pots and pans in the kitchen are kind of garbage. We have found this to be pretty common and planned accordingly by bringing our own electric skillet, so not really an issue, but be prepared. Beds were okay, the plastic waterproof mattress cover is a little annoying but I understand why. One bed my child slept in had blood stains which I believe were concealed by a previous user and then made to look like the bed was undisturbed. My wife managed to clean them, but a little gross.Cabin is in need of a little TLC before small problems lead to bigger ones, rain gutters are not managing water properly, I don’t rate our stay any less of this, but it’s obvious they have been ignored, and with the amount of rain we had, this water is going back against the house and will lead to big problems later. Also, the overhang off the back room out the East door, has little vents in the soffit, a few are missing and a squirrel or something has taken residence in the roof. Recommend it to be evicted.Hot tub was used, but it is also in need of a little tlc. The cover is torn up pretty bad and has to be held down with rocks. There is always a gap between the two halves, so tree buds and stuff still make their way into it.

Family Fun at the Chalet

We wanted a fun place to take our son and his family for a short vacation, and the chalet was perfect! Everyone felt very comfortable, and the rustic feel of the cabin was great. We had a wonderful time at the pond, especially taking my grandson fishing for the first time. Overall, it was an awesome trip!

Comfortable cabin

Rented this location as it had plenty of rooms for everyone. Large spacious rooms with clean and comfortable beds. Plenty of bathrooms. Enjoyed by all. No handle for stove 1st night was fixed next day, was informed at check in. No lighter for grill had to improvise to light, bought and left lighter for next guest. If in area again with large group would stay again.

Girl’s Getaway

The facilities were great with just a couple things. The rooms/beds allowed everyone in the group to have their own bed which was great. Restrooms were plentiful especially for all women. The pool, hot tub, outside setting, pond allowed us to enjoy being outside. We unfortunately were not able to use the pool table because the cues were missing tips and we had an issue with the oven door that was not resolved before we left. We all though would come back.

Perfect Large Family Getaway

Wonderful time for 4 family units (12 people total and 3 dogs). The house was clean and comfortatble with plenty of space. We had a blast playing games, watching movies, sitting around the fire ring and of course playing in the pool. The house has plenty of space for dining together; as well as, splitting off for late game nights and tv watching without disturbing those wanting to go to bed early. Constructive criticism: the gates around the fenced in area needs repaired and closed off by the stairs to the deck to be completely secure for dogs, a larger fridge or second fridge, more than 4 dishwasher tabs (we did requst more, but they were not received), and a keyless entry...either way though, we still hope to return!

Something for everyone!

The Chalet was the perfect space for bringing together three generations of family from three areas of Ohio for Easter weekend. From greenspace for wiffleball games and Easter egg hunts to the pool table, hot tub, and private pond with canoes, we made plenty of memories and hope to make it a yearly tradition. The clean, spacious, and well-stocked home comfortably accommodated us -- Thank you!
