About this property

Casa Azul Cazorla - Sleeps 8 in Parque Natural Sierras de Cazorla,

A simple, traditional, Andalucian former olive growers cottage in a beautiful location in the south of the Parque Natural de Sierra Cazorla. Set in its own olive grove below the mountains, Casa Azul is a place to escape the city and relax in the natural surroundings of rural Spain. Sleeping 8 it's full of character, quirky charm and style. Great for sports enthusiasts with hiking, cycling and horse riding on your doorstep, or go explore some of the many beautiful historic towns nearby - Ubeda ( 1 hour), Baeza (1 hour), Cazorla ( 1 hr 15), Castril ( 30 minutes).
The house is located in the tiny village of Aldea de Cuenca. Hinojares is 5 km away and Pozo Alcom 10 km. Aldea de Cuenca is a traditional farming village - very quiet with friendly locals who like a chat. They are mostly olive farmers but there are some livestock too and if you're lucky you'll hear the sound of the bells on the sheep and goats as they graze on the mountain slopes behind the house. Its also a great place for watching wildlife; Griffon Vulture and Golden Eagle will soar high above you on the mountain face while lower down in the olive groves the Hoopee Bird will go about his daily business.

The old property is simply furnished in keeping with its history. In winter it is heated by two woodburners and electric heaters while the thick stone walls, small windows and mountain location means it maintains a reasonable temperature during the hot summer months.

The accommodation consists of the following:

Ground Floor:

Open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with;
Sofa, TV, wood burning stove
Dining table for 8
Well equipped kitchen
5 ring gas hob and oven, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, granite worktop

Moroccan "snug" with sofa - a small room where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the kitchen/lounge. Great for a bit of peace and quiet!

"The Boot Room" - an entrance room with antique wood burning stove

Utility Room with washing machine, sink, iron and drying rack.

Bathroom - with shower, basin and wc

Upstairs:
Bedroom 1 - double bed with ensuite shower room,
Bedroom 2 - 4 x single beds
Bedroom 3 - 2 x single beds

Outside:
Parking for 4+ cars
Stone terrace with inbuilt BBQ
Terraced olive grove and fruit trees
Dining table and chairs for 6
4 x lounge chairs

The place is your own for the duration of your stay so along with the entire house you've got the outside terrace and olive grove to call home. This is not a holiday complex, it is, and feels like a real home.

Things to Note:
Dogs are welcome although the terrace and garden is not fenced.
The stairs are steep and uneven. They may not be suitable if you have mobility issues. There is an "open" area at the top of the stairs. Very young children must be supervised in this area.

About the host

Thanks for considering my home in Andalusia for your holiday. My name is Lisa and I bought cortijo azul in January 2018. Due to work commitments I can't live in Spain at the moment but I hope to do so one day. So for the time being I let the house out and live in Mid Wales, in the a bit like Spain, but with more rain! I love to travel, especially on my motorbike - Morocco and Spain are my favourite places. I love the outdoors, nature, wildlife....I'm definitely a country person at heart. Oh and I love animals :) So that's a bit about me. Have a great stay. x

Why they chose this property

Why did I choose to buy Cortijo Azul? Well primarily because I love quirky houses and I love old houses. I came to the Altiplano area looking at cave houses but found them to be too dark and claustrophobic for my liking. Cortijo Azul was better. She was lighter and had outside space - I just fell in love with her. With wonky walls and low ceilings she has so much character. There is also a small olive grove of 20 trees attached to the house which is novel for me. I take the olives and cure them at home. The figs, cherries, pomegranates and mandarin oranges are delicious too if you happen to be there in season.

What makes this property unique

The house is in a great location for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. There are lakes, mountains and rivers on the doorstep or if you want culture its easy enough to head into Granada, Ubeda or Baeza for the day. For swimming, the beach at Lake Negratin is only 20 minutes away plus it's easy enough to get to the coast - in a couple of hours you can be on some lovely Mediterranean beaches (yes, there are still a few left.)
But the real benefit to me are the people. I'd call this "real" Spain. It's not an area tainted by tourism. It's full of genuine, lovely people. There isn't a lot of English spoken so you'll just have to muck in - great if you're trying to learn the language.
