Flocks of visiting Greater Flamingos are the number one attraction here, it also harbours several rare resident species, include the Black-winged Stilt, Purple Gallinule and Little Bittern, as well as scores of interesting migrants. The Parque National da Ria Formosa consists of coastal lagoons, vast areas of tidal flats, saltmarsh and saltpans that are enclosed by a belt of sand dune islands and peninsulas. It is of particular importance as a wintering area for many birds from northern Europe and as a resting and feeding station for birds migrating between Africa and Europe. Occurring in notable numbers are Black-tailed Godwits, Ringed Plovers and Little Stints. Also to be seen -Bittern, Purple Swamp-hen, Purple Heron, Red-crested Pochard, Collared Pratincole, Kentish Plover, European Bee-eater, Red-necked Nightjar, Woodchat Shrikes.Quinta do Lago area - Marsh Harriare resident and Booted Eagles are regular in winter. ALGARVE MOTOR PARK : Newly opened motor park situated near to Portimao, approximately 20 min drive from our property. The motor park holds international Superbike Championships, plus other racing and car events throughout the year.
