This is a beautiful cottage set in the quiet village of Rievaulx with its amazing abbey.
This is a beautiful cottage set in the quiet village of Rievaulx with its amazing abbey. We enjoyed relaxing in the lovely private garden and walking our two dogs in the expansive farmlands beyond the gate. Expeditions to the nearby market town of Helmsley uncovered a castle and incredible walled gardens, the great bird of prey centre, as well as an excellent butchers, grocers, and other independent vendors.

A really nice cottage in a beautiful area.
A really nice cottage in a beautiful area. Very clean and welcoming on arrival, with comfortable beds and furnishings. Pint of milk provided in fridge on arrival. Garden ideal for dogs (although not recommended for adventurous escapee dogs as the walls are low and could easily be jumped over). Lovely walks through farmland from the door, bear in mind dogs need to be kept on leads due to livestock in fields. The one slight negative for us, that was not evident in the listing pictures, is that there is another cottage (a private home) very close to Mill Cottage. You need to drive/walk across the neighbour’s house/front garden to access Mill Cottage. On arrival we were a little disconcerted as there was some sort of outdoor gathering with loud music and children running about directly in front of the Mill Cottage gate. Blissfully quiet for the rest of the week however, although we did have to relocate an Amazon delivery left in our porch on one day and found our recycling bin had been added to after returning from a day out. So possibly not an option for anyone expecting total peace and seclusion. Still a gorgeous setting though and the outlook from the front of Mill Cottage is beautiful.Overall though, a lovely cottage and I would recommend.
Hidden away in a small valley, Rievaulx is a tiny village with old thatched cottages and a 900 year old abbey ruins. There's no noise, no light pollution, clean air and fantastic views...and not many people. What's not to like 🙂. The cottage is nice and cosy. A great base for lots of Yorkshire activities too.
