About this property

Vorlich Cottage - peaceful relaxing cottage for 4 beside stunning Loch Lomond

Vorlich Cottage is set within an 18th century watermill and stunningly located in the heart of the Loch Lomond National Park. Situated in its own 10 acres within a private country estate overlooking Loch Lomond , its islands and magificent mountain backdrop, Vorlich Cottage provides a unique location with unforgettable scenery. The Lorn Mill is a traditional Scottish farm steading and has been owned and lovingly restored by the same family for the last 30 years. There is a private tennis court in the garden for guests to use - it has spectacular views of the Loch so may put you off your game!
The approach to the cottage is up a private wooded track revealing your first sight of Loch Lomond as you round the bend to the Mill. There is plenty of private parking when you arrive. Your front door is reached following a gravel path round the Mill.
There is an entrance hall in which to hang coats and leave boots. The open-plan kitchen /dining room leads off from the hall. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and round dining table for 6 . A garden door leads you onto a tiled area for outdoor eating, the garden and tennis court.
Off the entrance hall is the downstairs bedroom (can be made up as a kingsized double or twin beds). It has an ensuite shower room with large power shower, basin, WC, heated towel rail and underfloor heating.
The staircase leading up from the entrance hall takes you to the upstairs sitting room and second ensuite bedroom. The sitting room has a log burning stove, large window overlooking the garden, tennis court, mountains and glimpses of the Loch. You will see gorgeous sunsets from here and amazing streaky evening skies. The room provides TV, DVD, docking station and games, books and magazines.
The bedroom, with king sized bed, has an ensuite shower room with large power shower, basin, WC, heated towel rail and underfloor heating.
The entire cottage has recently been refurbished with mellow colours, new tiling, flooring and carpets with original art and limited editions all providing an extremely comfortable, warm and inviting place to stay. The property is heated by oil fired central heating. All linen, towels, electricity and heating are included in the price. There is a small laundry room with washing machine and drying racks for guests to use. The property has its own spring water supply, filtered and regularly checked by the Council .
There is free wifi but the service is not super speedy so guests have to patient.
There are wonderful walks straight from your cottage - you can stroll down to the Loch shore through woods and field (approx 20 minutes), walk into nearby Balloch on the private estate road (approx 2 miles) or enjoy leafy walks through the Woodland Trust grounds. Balloch (4 miles by main road) provides an efficient railway station (trains go straight into Glasgow and onwards to Edinburgh) large supermarket, cash machines, pubs, restaurants and Tourist Information Centre.
Day trips to Glen Coe, Oban and Fort William are an option, or visit castles, distilleries and galleris in Inverary, Stirling or Edinburgh.
There will be welcome goodies and fresh garden flowers on arrival. The owners will be there to meet you and look forward to having you to stay. Guests return again and again to Vorlich Cottage because of its unique location and superb accommodation.
Please note, in the busy summer weeks we accept weekly bookings only.
Sorry, no dogs.
WE ARE CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR.

Family Heritage Trip
The property was just beautiful. Claire was generous and kind. It rained everyday we were there, but it didn't dampen our spirits at all. The trip and accommodations were amazing and I would recommend this beautiful property as a home base to anyone who wants a great stay while they explore the beauty of Scotland.

We had a great time
The cottage is lovely, with splendid views over Loch Lomond. From the garden you have Ben Lomond in front of you. And sometimes the Ben is gone if there is Scottish drizzle around. The walks nearby are very good, with stunning views on the way. The walk into Balloch is worthwhile, have a nice lunch in Balloch and walk back. Claire is a good and welcoming host. She gave good information, and she is nearby if you need help, but respects the guest privacy at the same time. The cottage inside has everything you need, with nice areas to choose from with nice views again, with welcoming sweets. Lots of birds around, and we spotted a deer on our walk back from Balloch. We will come back when we come over from the Netherlands and choose this area again in Scotland. Thx Clair.

Great accommodation, beautiful location.
Excellent accommodation. Well equipped with everything you need for an extended stay. Description and photos are accurate. Nice gardens with a lovely elevated seating area with expansive loch views - perfect for an evening wine or chilling back with a book. Claire is a responsive host. Hiking trails from the property. Short drive into Balloch which is a pretty town with all facilities. We found it an excellent central base for touring throughout the Loch Lomond area and also with Stirling and Glasgow less than a hour's drive away. Highly recommend.

A Bit of Magic
It's a bit of magic to stay in a place so comfortable in a region with stunning beauty. A quiet location deep on a private drive - just the sheep to keep you company on walks in the area. The walk to the Balloch train station is no far, and worth the steps for the views!

Thank you for the wonderful accommodation
After the stunning view over Loch Lomond at arrival we got surprised by a warm welcome of the landlord and also a nice surprise in the house. We could feel the warmth to make our stay special. You find everything you need, including all information around the place, e.g. restaurants. All recommendations were exactly as described and worth visiting. You also find a guidebook to find all information, whatever you need. The stunning view every evening after returning from amazing tours in the area has helped us to relax and feel so good. I didn‘t remember to sleep so deep for a very long time. Whoever needs peace and inspiration during his vacation will exactly find it. For us a perfect stay.
