Lovely hosts and property. A relaxing stay with everything I needed to unwind. Gorgeous view (loved the lanai) and the friendly geckos. Will definitely be booking my return trip.
My adult son and I enjoyed the ohana unit’s location, condition and how well it was equipped for our stay. Jim was a gracious host. He welcomed us emphasizing he was available to help with anything we needed. An inside outside concept worked well. A studio for sleeping (2 beds), and a nice bathroom. A lanai for coffee, relaxing, breakfast while taking in the stunning blue water views.
We loved this place. It was very quiet and relaxing. It had incredible views of the ocean. We really liked sitting outside on the lanei in the evenings. The property was in a great location and it was just a short drive to some really awesome beaches.
Wonderful stay at Jim and Kim’s lovely rental the view and the sounds from the Lanai are our favourite place. Landscaping is beautifully done and spacious unit has everything you need. Look forward to our next stay thank you both! Aloha!
We thoroughly enjoyed watching in the morning on the porch and cooking meals at sunset. Cozy little cabin feel with all the amemnities. Host was very communicative.
We really enjoyed our stay here! The lanai was a great spot to watch the sunrise, eat breakfast, and appreciate nature. Jim showed us around and was available if we needed anything. Truly a gorgeous spot with all the things we needed to cook meals and relax! The cows, geckos, and rainbows made it extra special.
Fabulous ocean views! Lanai with the Geckos very entertaining!
Replacing full ant traps with fresh on a regular basis would help the ant problem!! Of course bugs are a real thing in the tropics.
Very nice little bungalow.
Kim and Jim were absolutely terrific hosts! We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The location was beautiful, with a wonderful view and plenty of parking.
The sounds of animals and the ocean at night are so peaceful and quaint.
The space came with everything we needed such coffee and drinks, toiletries and travel guides. They really think of everything!
This is a very nice spot, with a serene view to the ocean over a herd of grazing cattle.
The cottage is also unique with most everything you need to make meals and relax. The bath is nice as well with a large shower.
The day bed (single) is a firm foam mattress and quite comfortable.. Alas, the double bed is worn and most uncomfortable. I'm sure that the owners have scheduled a replacement of the bed and upgrading it to a queen.
We would very definitely stay here again.

I loved the landscaping and the views were lovely. The neighborhood was friendly. The chickens were quite loud at times. I would suggest the bed get replaced and the shower head possibly cleaned as it's appearance was more impressive than it's function. Overall a cute place.
The sounds of the animals at night were amazing! Spent a lot of time on the lanai. Loved the green geckos! Nice to have the kitchen stocked.
Wish the bed was a queen or king.
Thank you Jim for the relaxing stay at your detached guest house.

We stayed here for our honeymoon, from the moment we landed Jim helped guide us to their location, he gave us a tour of where we’d be staying. Jim and Kim are both so friendly and helpful! The views from balcony are beautiful and there’s lots of geckos that roam around and are fun to hang out with and watch in the mornings. We saw lots of rainbows over the ocean from the balcony. There’s also a beautiful garden that you can walk through. Couldn’t have had a better place to stay!
The morning view out the front porch is amazing. The landscaping around the cottage should win an award. The place is comfortable and inviting overall. The host was quite accommodating. My wife and I had a great week long stay. If you like a real soft bed the big bed is for you. Since we like a more firm bed we slept on the smaller one.
The location on the island is good, almost same time to Kona or Hilo. Honokaa itself is absolutely charming.
Kim’s Cottage and Jim’s welcome were both awesome, two of us stayed for three nights and it was exactly as described and expected. The private patio was wonderful and it made for easy living. We did have some unwelcome encounters with mosquitos, but that was expected due to the location of the property and the season. We normally stay in Hawi and the location was incredibly convenient for us to explore the northeastern side of the island. Once welcomed by Jim, where he gave us an overview of the cottage and the property, we were afforded incredible privacy throughout our stay. It was just perfect, exactly what we needed :)
Loved being in nature and hearing the wildlife of Hawaii at night. Jim and his wife were incredibly understanding and allowed me to have autonomy while being nearby if/when needed. Having a fan instead of A/C let my body really adjust to Hawaii living and it wasn’t necessary since it was comfortably colder at night in the middle of summer. I stayed a week and it was a dream vacation come true :)
Nice, comfortable stay, great view, near Waipi'o Lookout
The hosts is nice. He communicates by phone and was there to personally walk us through the house. It was comfortable and nicely furnished, with a number of nice paintings by Kim, his partner and nice chaise lounges on a patio below with colorful landscaping. The lawn between car and house is fairly steep. The ocean view from the porch is quite nice. Not much counter space. Not a very good walking neighborhood, but far from (and 650' below!) highway (yay!) and close to Waipi'o Lookout and Honoka'a tsunami memorial. We would come again.

It's all about the VIEW!!!!
The view from this property was absolutely fabulous. I would call this place the land of rainbows. Together with the outrageous ocean view and beautiful gardens this would be hard to beat. Unfortunately, we had a few issues. The phone number in vrbo listing was incorrect, but the view is awesome. Cooking at this location is frustrating due to the induction cook top that kept going off, but the view is awesome. Ahh the mattress....., the view is awesome!
Loved sitting on Jim and Kims deck (and their lanai) enjoying their stunning gardens and staring at an unobstructed view of the ocean. It was the perfect way to start and end each day. In 5 days we easily explored from Mauna Kea beach to the Botanical gardens, wandered Hawi, hiked Pololu, meandered through Honokaa. Be sure to hit the historical ctr by Spencer Beach to watch the film about how Kamehameha united Hawaii and feel the history of the temple there. In Honokaa, wander the Heritage ctr. We missed the turn to the Botanical Gardens and stumbled upon Hilos farmers market, bought fruit and treats, then headed back to spend 2 stunning hours at the Gardens. If you want a quiet home base where all you hear are frogs, birds, roosters and an occasional cow to explore the north end, Jim and Kims is your place. Very comfortable with grill and well stocked kitchen.
Since I was a young kid (50+ years ago), I always wanted to stop and stay in Honoka’a to soak in the views. We usually just stopped for malasadas and went home to Hilo. It was totally worth the visit … the views are supreme and very cathartic. I sat for hours just taking in the ambience and listening to the plethora of birds/animals. The living space was clean and very artistically put together. My two negatives would be that the cable TV only works reliably between midnight and 6:20am (otherwise it lags and cuts out - but who then goes on vacation to watch TV) and the very steep slippery grass hill you need to go up and down to get to and from your car. If you have a disability then this is not the place for you.
One more unique and fun thing was a pair of geckos that come visit you on the lanai … they fear not and just hang out with you and act cute. Thanks for a truly beautiful visit.
Property was absolutely stunning Home quaint and cozyRoosters reverberate through the village as sunrise approaches.Privacy and view makes it a place we will revisit.
