About this property

Beautiful Lodge Style Living. Hunting And Fishing Available. Pet Friendly.

The newly constructed (2016) Remington Ranch Lodge is a 2,200 sq ft facility designed for those looking for that hunter/outdoorsman living experience. We can book exclusively or accommodate several clients on a room by room basis. So if the calendar shows that we have guests, we still may be able to accommodate your needs. Please check with us for availability. The lodge is located just 5 minutes NE of beautiful Independence, Ks and sits over 1/4 mile off the road squarely in the middle of 114 acres. Upland hunt packages (Pheasant, Chukar, Quail) are available November 1st thru February 31st upon request or just simply relax with your fishing pole around our 3 acre lake just outside your door (Catch and Release Only).

Remington Ranch is also "Pet Friendly" and has kennels on the grounds. So don't hesitate to bring that special friend or hunting partner for that incredible upland hunt experience. Want to hunt but don't have a dog…??? No problem. We have on staff some of the best upland dogs in the country. We are a working Ranch and dog training facility. We do keep some client dogs on site. The dogs can be a little noisy at feeding time or if the coyotes come up at night but are generally not an issue with our guests.

What about deer and turkey hunting you ask…??? Remington Ranch is just minutes away from over 14,000 acres of Kansas State Public Hunting Areas. Much of this state owned public land is also some of the best waterfowl hunting in the state. In addition, there are also hundreds of acres of privately owned public access properties in this same area. If that's not enough, the Independence area also boosts several top sport fishing lakes and waterways including Elk City Reservoir, Big Hill Reservoir, Independence State Lake, the Verdigris River, and Elk River.

Unplug and Enjoy
The stay that my wife and me had was so relaxing! The Baker’s are incredibly kind and are as accommodating as a host can be. We were provided with a 4x4 to take out around the property. Every question/ need that we had was met during our stay. This place is wonderful if you are wanting to get away, unplug, and relax. Very spacious yet cozy at the same time!

Much better than a hotel!
This property is very beautiful and unique. Rusty was helpful and present but not intrusive (he and his wife live right next door). The property is peaceful and quiet. There are dogs in the kennels which barked at our dog when we walked outside and she wanted to play with them so badly! But we couldn’t really hear them when we were inside the house. The covered veranda is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset or the rain (we had both on our stay). The bed was comfortable and the showers were hot. Kitchen had everything we needed and more!

About the host

Hosted by Russell Baker

Host profile image
Hello…My name is Russell Baker. My wife, Jan, and I are the owner /operators of the Remington Ranch Lodge. I am the retired Fire/EMS Chief for the City of Independence and my wife is an educator with USD 446 working as a teacher in our local elementary school. We own 3 labs that I run competitively in upland field trials across the country, one of which, "Princess Cartwight's Remington", is the namesake of the lodge. It is widely known that if not for Remington, there would be no lodge. He has been so instrumental in our lives that he has, in so many ways, led us to where we are with this property. Remington is pictured as the owner and pretty much has his way around the place.

Remington was whelped 07/07/2007 and is know in many circles as the lucky dog. Whether it be luck or his shear skill and tenacity as a trials dog, Remington has amassed a record of achievements that are virtually unmatched any where. He has won 6 different National Finals Championships over his career, also the Browning Tournament Of Champions, and no less than 3 consecutive wins at the Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever Bird Dog Classic just to name a few. To date Remington has won over 100 different upland events over 12 years and is responsible for winning some 15 different trophy guns thru out his career. The National Kennel Club has recently created a new title to accommodate Remington's accomplishments and the fact that he has more than doubled the number of championship points previously needed to hold their top title of "Super Grand Champion" and is now the sole dog to hold the title of "Ultimate Super Grand Champion" amassing over 400 pts. He also has the distinguished title of "AKC Master Hunter".

Remington was also the "Fire Dog" for the Independence Fire/EMS Department. He was used extensively in our public relations program thru out the community and also as part of our fire prevention and safety education program in the schools. He has his own FB page with over 3000 fans.

Why they chose this property

My wife and I chose this property because of it's beautiful setting and also it's accessibility to all the wonderful, fun, and exciting things we have in SE Kansas. We have the best of everything in that we are centered right in the middle of a 114 acre tract of land with a small but beautiful 3 to 4 acre lake right out the back door of our house and the lodge. We have plenty of room to train dogs and also provide premium grass habitat to guide upland hunts. Our property is exclusively "Controlled Shooting" with another 90 acres just a short distance away allowing for booked upland hunts starting Sept. 1 and running thru March 31.

What makes this property unique

Along with what we can provide on the property itself, we are also just minutes away from just about everything the Independence area has to offer. This is just a partial list of things to do and places to go within 20 miles of the property.
1. Thousands of acres dedicated to public hunting. This includes some of the best deer, turkey, and water fowl hunting in Kansas.
2. Elk City Reservoir - One of the top water fowl, crappie, flathead, blue cat, and channel cat lakes in the state. Home of the Kansas State Record Flathead. It is not uncommon to catch limits of 2 lb crappie in short order in many areas of the lake. The lake also provides boating and skiing, and miles of the best hiking trails in Kansas.
3. Neewollah - This is a week long event that spans the entire last full week of Oct. It is touted as being Kansas' largest annual celebration and includes a well produced play, Ms Neelah Contest, downtown carnival and food stands, and no less than 3 parades with the Grand parade on Saturday morning sometimes drawing in excess of 50 thousand people.
4. Riverside Park, Riverside Aquatic Park, and Ralph Mitchell Zoo - Magical place to take the family and spend the day. Many people from as far away as Tulsa, Joplin, Wichita, and Kansas City bring their families to Independence on day trips just to visit this little jewel. Zoo is free and the park boosts a newly renovated antique carousel (5 cents), miniature golf, and miniature train ride.
5. Little House on the Prairie - Just South of Independence is a replicated cabin on the site where Laura Ingles family lived for a period of time calling Independence their home. This attraction is visited by people from all around the world each year.
6. Sycamore Valley Golf Course - 3 miles from property
7. William Inge Theater Festival
8. Astra Arts Festival
9. Big Hill Reservoir - Beautiful, clear lake with some great bass, crappie, and catfish.
