Black Jack Get-A-Way Magpies Nest

Welcome to "Magpies Nest" This cosy cottage overlooks the Pekina Creek, home to majestic River Red Gums and plentiful bird life. An ideal place for that relaxing get-a-way from the hustle and bustle of normal life. In the mornings you will awaken to the magpies singing their morning song outside your window, then in the evenings, join them on the veranda with a glass of wine to watch the sun set while they sing you good night.

This was a great place for three friends and a dog. The home was well set up with a good kitchen, comfy warm beds and a good space for the dog to run on his lead. We really enjoyed the histories at the Magpie Nest - writings by year 9 students from interviewing locals, and a history of Orroroo to mark its 100th birthday. This was particularly interesting as we were in Orroroo as the town prepared to celebrate 150 years (green and gold ribbons) in October 2025. A lovely, friendly town to stay in and Magpie Nest was a really good, handy place to stay.

A cottage with wonderful views

A cottage with a great from the verandah. We arrived late but the cottage exceeded our expectations, wish we could stayed longer, nothing was missing. We gave the local pub around the corner a visit and here we found out more points of interest to visit, but because we only passing by we have to stop next time a day longer.

Good old fashioned pride in product offered.

Located in outback town location this simple 3 bedder ticks all the boxes many more elaborate and expensive accommodation houses fail to provide. Every imaginable requirement is provided for the weary traveller to comfortably pull off the road for a night or two. Clean, quiet and well equipped. Well done Susan.

Stop over on way to Port Lincoln

Love Orroroo. Have stayed at Black Jack Cottages 3 times now. 3 different cottages. ( Nana's Home, Kangaroo Cottage and Magpie's Nest. Next time Possums Cottage. ) so comfy, clean and relaxing. Susan is a fantastic host. We will be back. Thanks Susan 👍

Peaceful and charming

Very peaceful spot in between two similar properties (if you were traveling as a group would be perfect to rent all three!). Everything was clean and comfortable. Loved our stay and would recommend.

Best pet friendly accommodation in Australia!

What an awesome place to stay! Pet friendly, warm and cosy. Plenty of parking for our work truck too. And an enclosed yard that our doggos loved! Quiet with great views of the hills. So glad Orroroo is only a few hours from home, I reckon this will be our ‘get a away from it all’ place. Thanks Susan
