Beautiful home with room for a large family or group of friends
Hosts were very welcoming and took time to show us around the beautiful home. Photos are accurate. The house feels bigger in person. Enough room for a large or extended family or group of friends. The pool was very welcomed on the extremely hot 25C+ days during our stay. The pool is large enough for many swimmers at once. The deep end is 6 foot plus, great for cannon ball jumps or games of underwater fetch. While we were reasonably comfortable on hot days, only the lower floor is air conditioned. Hosts provided two large industrial (loud) fans to help circulate cooler air to the upper level. While you get used to the noise, it is a minor but unfortunate annoyance that you have to be aware if outside gets over 25C. Without the fans, the upstairs gets quit hot at night even with windows open. A suggestion if sensitive to sound, bring earplugs for sleeping. Lake is beautiful too look at from the home. But unique! It is the first time I encounter a lake like this. During our stay, the clear water level was between 6-12 inches above the top layer of silky silt/silky mud but the bottom of the lake is much deeper. A 6 foot paddle at the end of the dock did not reach a solid bottom. Similar story at other places on the lake itself. This is not a swimming or fishing lake, but it is easy to paddle the provided kayaks/canoe to explore, even if it is a bit weird to bring up powdery light mud as you go around! Very happy with our stay! Beautiful home! Great hosts!

Serenity at Grace House
Grace House was wonderful! The property is as secluded as you could ever hope for yet only minutes from town if the need arose for forgotten provisions. Nature is all around. We saw a moose our very 1st day! The home and property have enough space for the big group for meals and game nights after campfire by the waterfront, but lots of secluded spaces as well if you’re looking for solitude to enjoy a good book in quiet. Speaking of quiet, the mornings at sunup are truly marvellous. I enjoyed the sunrise every morning where the only sounds heard were the occasional frog croaking or the fish coming to the surface to snag a water bug. The only downside (minor) to the experience is that Mud Lake lives up to its name. It isn’t swimmable due to a deep layer of soft mud only a few feet under the surface but of course there’s the lovely pool for that and lounging in. The water toys on the property still made it possible to explore the lake though, which was very nice. The house is beautiful. The photos on VRBO are 100% accurate, but it’s even nicer in person. Everything has been well maintained in the home and it’s clear improvements have been made over time throughout the home. Great water pressure and quality for showering. Beds and bedrooms are cozy too. No A/C on the 2nd floor, but the hosts provided plenty of ceiling and oscillating fans so nights were still comfortable. The huge 72” wide fridge/freezer has room for everything you could need for your stay too. Rain days if you have any are no issue as they have a pool table, big screen TV, and more movies, games and books than you could get through in a month. The hosts were always available before and through our stay but never intrusive. A real pleasure to deal with prior to and during our stay! Overall, our family and friends had a GREAT time at Grace House and we would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway from the urban pace of life and noise and lights that come with it.

About the host

Grace House is our family home. It was fully renovated in 2009 to accommodate a our five growing kids. While redesigning the house we thought about the future and how we could share this wonderful space with others for retreats and short term rentals. We do live at Grace House through the year except for the summer months when we offer short term rentals. Angela is a full-time professor, teaching spiritually-integrated psychotherapy and Edward, affectionately known as Father Ed, is a pastor for a local Lutheran congregation.

Why they chose this property

Our home is the only residence on the lake. We own the majority of the land around the lake and have kept this property environmentally protected for over fifty years. Each season brings wonderful vistas - the ducks arrive in spring with a returning heron or two. By April we are canoeing on the lake. The pool gets opened in late May and the summer is perfect for barbequing, swinging on the hammock, swimming in the pool, and spending evenings around one of the two fire pits. The fall brings a wonderful array of colours around the lake with cool nights and time to appreciate the stars under the dark sky. In winter, once the lake freezes, we build a skating rink and cross-country ski around the lake. Every season brings it own delights.

What makes this property unique

Grace House is appreciated by those who are spiritually-minded. The setting is peaceful and we built a room for meditation, worship or reading - whatever kind of activity restores your soul. The chapel is two stories tall and is full of light.

"Full of light" might be a wonderful way to describe one of the most unique features of Grace House which is a large atrium in the centre of the house. You can see the clouds go by during the day and the moon shines through at night. The skylight is quite large and follows the roof line of the house.
