3 br house only 100m from Balnarring Beach - perfect for families and dog lovers
About Colleen Peterson
We are a family of 4 who love to travel and explore all that life has to offer. We absolutely love our beach house and can often be found sneaking in some time in between rentals. We live in the inner city of Melbourne so love getting away to Balnarring Beach to enjoy the peace and quite, the beach and the odd sneaky koala or kangaroo.
Colleen Peterson purchased this House in 2011
Why Colleen Peterson chose Balnarring Beach
We simply adore our beach house with so much positive feedback about its 'essence' from our visitors. There is something intangile about the house - perhaps its the simplicity, the clean lines and the way in whcih the house retains a genuine beach character from another era without feeling gimmicky. We have specifically set the house up to be perfect for famillies and dogs. There is nothing that you will need that isn't at the house. Books, dvds, toys, portacot, stroller, high chair, dog beg, water and food bowls and the like.

Awesome place to stay right near the beach
The house is exactly as described. The wood heater was great for the chilly evening and the garden is perfect for the dogs to run around all day. The beach is just around the corner, cafe up the corner for coffee/breakfast/takeaway and a wider range of restaurants is just up the road. Thanks for a great stay!
What a fantastic beach get away
We love coming to stay at the Draper Shack. A simple house that has been lovingly restored and decked out with 1960's furniture - this is a great place to get away from it all. With a cubby house, monkey bars, trampoline and basketball ring, this house has everyting our kids need to stay entertained. With the beach only 100 metre away, we can't wait to come back.
Great spot close to the beach with plenty of amenities for the kids
Great relaxing place to stay. The kids loved the trampoline and cubby house. It was great to be so close to the beach and an easy walk from the local Tulum store for coffee and fish and chips. The owners were really helpful when we had issues getting the tv to work. They always responded quickly to any questions we had.
fantastic guests and a real pleasure to have.
Great getaway with kids
We’re repeat guests. Our girls love the place & we do too. The beach is a great way to spend time, even in winter, & very child-friendly. Owners are very good to deal with.
This is the second time Adam and his family have stayed with us and it has always been a pleasure.
We arrived at The Draper Shack and my 2 year old daughter ran right out to the back garden to the cubby house with sandpit and slide. She loved it.
The Draper Shack was a home away from home. With the beautiful 1950's décor and art work and a large wood heater it was perfect for a nice comfortable stay. I took way too many items for my daughter; toys, books plastic dishware. There was no need, this was all catered for.
We were a short stroll to the beach and Balnarring village is a 2minute drive, with an array of shops, cafes and restaurants.
There is plenty to do around for Adults and Kids. We visited some local wineries and a Children's Farm called Rain, Hayne & Shine.
Our stay was very relaxing and the accommodation, amenities and area all made it easier. My family will be back to stay at The Draper Shack again.
We had a lovely stay, this classic 50s beach house had everything we needed for a great weekend away
Thanks to he Draper Shack for a lovely few nights with our little family of three generations and our Golden Retriever. It was really lovely and relaxing. Though it was quite simple, it is better appointed then many places we have stayed. Decorated really tastefully but not pretentiously, with gorgeous scandinavian style, mid-century furniture, updated it still had original features such as windows and kitchen, which worked really well, (screens on windows were genius). It has a great little collection of books and DVDs although we watched none – we just played games, read, relaxed and enjoyed each other's company. The house is next to a lovely reserve that means you feel like you have lots of privacy and are in the bush a bit.
It really is 3, (maybe 4 for slow-coaches like us), minutes walk to the beach along the creek. Though there is an easier path for those not so sure on there feet, just a little further away. The beach was great, but it would be good if the times dogs were allow was clearer. (I think they are not allowed at all from Nov-March. Onlead the rest of the year apart from 7-9am and after 7pm, I think! Keep that in mind, I found the council websites and info is very confusing on this.) Anyway our dog got two walks and swims a day and had a fabulous time! We even got a swim in :) The headland is lovely and the skies divine, cloudy or clear.
Though it bucketed down while we were there we felt safe and snug, we even got the log burner going and that was an absolutely treat. Thank you so much to the Draper Shack.
Some Feedback for Stays: I found it hard to find the information to access the place through the Stays Home Away app, and had to ring the owners for the entry code. Stays be aware there were two glitches in your systems with our booking. Not drastic, but worth fixing!
