About this property
2 Bed Cabin - Hot Tub, View! National Quartet Convention Opening!
Thanks for your support for 10 years in business!
Welcome to Chubby's Sleepy Bear Retreat- a two bedroom cabin with ensuite bathrooms perched on a mountain ridge. Beautiful views of the mountains and downtown Sevierville provide that "get away from it all" feeling, yet it is less than a 10 minute drive to the Parkway, Dollywood, Cal Ripkin Experience and all the excitement of Pigeon Forge. Gatlinburg and the National Park are about 20 minutes away.
As you arrive at the cabin you will see there is an outdoor grilling area. There is also a park bench and seating on the front porch. A great place to sit and relax! There is flat parking (unusual for this area!) for 2-3 vehicles or motorcycles.
When you enter the cabin the first thing you see is a wall of windows with an incredible view of the valley and mountains in the distance. At night, the lights of Sevierville twinkle and glow like hundreds of lightening bugs! To your left is a completely remodeled kitchen with stainless appliances, new cabinets and countertops. We have added a pantry for additional storage. The kitchen is fully equipped with a variety of small appliances including a regular and single serve coffee pot, crock pot and blender. To the right is the dining area with table and chairs - seating for 4 (there is an additional bench in the bedroom if you need extra seating). The full size stackable washer and dryer are just behind the door in the dining area.
The living area has plenty of comfortable seating - and the couch is also a queen sleeper sofa. There is a double-sided gas fireplace and a 55 inch LED Smart TV with sound bar. Our gas fireplace is turned on for the season no later than early November and is available until approximately May 1st. We turn the fireplace on once it is cool enough to comfortably use and do the same when turning it off for the season. Guests may contact us if they want to know if the fireplace will be available during their stay. Cable and Smart TV's are provided to keep you entertained! We also have wireless internet access. But don't forget to unplug, we have plenty of board games and cards too!
There are two master bedrooms - each with king sized beds, 43 inch LED Smart TV's and ensuite full bathrooms. Each bedroom includes a full closet and dresser for plenty of clothing storage. The first master bedroom has a cozy reading area and the double-sided fireplace. We have added a gaming area in the second bedroom that features a Megatouch touch-screen game with over 100 games including puzzles, card games, trivia games, etc. (be careful- this game is addictive!). There is also a cocktail video game with 60 video games to choose from. Both bathrooms have oversized width bath tubs (36” vs the standard 32”) with full-height shower heads, giving you a wonderful bath or shower experience after a long day shopping or hiking! Vanities have storage for personal items.
While the inside of the cabin is a wonderful place to relax- the back deck is even better! Of course, there is that amazing view with plenty of seating to just sit and do nothing. There is a brand new hot tub on one end of the deck and a gas fire pit with four chairs on the other end. (There are also skewers hanging on the wall for toasting marshmallows!) Enjoy views of downtown Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. At night, you can see the LED Ferris Wheel at The Islands. On clear days, you can see over 60 miles and the Jellico Mountains at the Kentucky/Tennessee boarder is in view. Sit on the deck and enjoy the sunset over Bluff Mountain to your left. During the summer you can see the fireworks from Dollywood to your left.
Please note that we do not accept arrivals on holidays: Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas (December 24, 25 or 26th) and New Year's Day. We believe our cleaning crew deserve time off to spend with family and friends. If you need to arrive on a holiday or other day listed above, you will need to contact me first to make suitable arrangements.
Host fees - the only fee we charge is a cleaning fee which is listed as a host fee. This entire fee goes to our cleaning crew for the fantastic job they do!
Our cabins are located near the Great Smoky Mountains which are home to black bears. While seeing bears is not an everyday occurrence, visitors should be aware of the potential. Guests will be notified if I become aware of bear activity in the area.
Do we decorate for the holidays? Absolutely! Decorating for the holidays is something we thoroughly enjoy, both at home and at our rentals. The cabin is fully decorated inside and outside from approximately mid November through mid January. Please contact us if you want to know if decorations will be up during your stay. PLEASE NOTE: Our Christmas yard art displays may vary from year to year. We have had a problem with animals eating the wiring on our displays and some get damaged beyond repair. It is not always possible to get them replaced due to timing and cost.
Is there a pool nearby? You bet! Our HOA built a brand new pool complex and it opened on Memorial Day of 2020. It is a short walk from the cabin and features a nice pool, changing room/bathroom, seating around the pool and grilling areas to spend a lazy afternoon.
Need to sleep more than six? Check out Rustic Pine Retreat (VRBO 789841) right next door! It sleeps eight, and if rented together will provide accommodations for 14. It features a lower level gaming deck, indoor gaming area with pool table and a large relaxing TV area.
Want to try Gatlinburg sometime? We also have a secluded 2BR 2-1/2 bath cabin 10-15 minutes from Gatlinburg on Rte 321 (a very convenient way into Gatlinburg). Webb Creek Hideaway overlooks Webb Creek, and the sounds of the creek from the large covered deck are awesome. It includes an outdoor fire pit and a gaming deck with horseshoe pits and corn hole! Please check out Webb Creek Hideaway at VRBO 1114625 for fantastic outdoor recreation and proximity to the Smoky Mountain National Park and other attractions in the Gatlinburg area.
We hope you stay with us soon and we are sure you won't be disappointed. Come visit, relax and enjoy all the Smokies have to offer!

About the host
Hosted by Doug and Linda Selkirk

We love this part of the country! We have been visiting this area for over 20 years and for the last 10 have talked about retiring here. We lost our first cabin in the fire of 2016. But Chubby's Sleepy Bear Retreat survived and we spent most of 2017 renovating and repairing some fire damage. Finally, in 2020 we took the plunge and bought a property on Douglas Lake about 45 minutes from the cabin. In the spring of 2021 we sold our house in Ohio and became permanent residents of Tennessee. We have adult children and young grandchildren we hope will fall in love with this area too and visit us often! Why "Chubby" in the name? We added the name "Chubby to our cabin in remembrance of our beloved Boston Terrier who loved to come and visit in Tennessee.
Why they chose this property
When we first visited this area almost 20 years ago we stayed in a cabin on the same mountain ridge in Eagle Crest. We loved the views and the proximity to everything. So when we started looking for a cabin we looked in several nice areas but something kept calling us back to this mountain ridge. When we walked out onto the deck and looked at the view we knew we had found a great cabin. We decided to turn it into the beautiful rustic retreat we knew it could be and hope we have succeeded. We want our guests to truly feel like they are "getting away from it all" when they stay at our cabin.
What makes this property unique
An amazing view of the sunset over Bluff Mountain, the beautiful twinkling lights of downtown Sevierville at night, the fireworks from Dollywood, being close to everything but not feeling closed in! A very quiet and peaceful setting.
