About this property
The Lazy Olive (Tembel Zeytin), a Lovely Private Villa
Our four-bedroom country house stands alone in its own two-acre (8000 sq m) garden. The villa is ideal for adventurous spirits who love comfort, privacy and the rugged beauty of one of Turkey's most unspoiled mountain parks.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are gorgeous for hiking stretches of the nearby Lycian Way. We love to do this and can supply some great one-day routes, including to the top of the nearby Mount Olympos (the peak is at 2365 m / 7760 ft).
Summer is sunny and can get hot in July and August. Luckily you'll be within 25 minutes' drive of three of Turkey's most beautiful Mediterranean beaches, One of our favourite activities is to charter a small boat to go bay-hopping between Adrasan and Olympos (a a modest typical cost $200 for 10 people for the whole day, including lunch).
Other outings include the ascent of Mount Olympos by cable car, trips to the ruins of the remarkable classical cities of Olympos, Phaselis and several others a bit further afield, and of course an evening walk to the everlasting flames of the Chimaera behind Cirali.
The house is well-insulated, has good ceiling fans and there are plenty of shady places to sit outside. Please note there is no air conditioning or central heating, which is how we prefer to enjoy being at one with nature.

About the host
Hosted by Hugh Pope

The picture: the owners in the natural swimming pool that is our pride and joy at The Lazy Olive. We are Hugh Pope and Jessica JJ Lutz: Hugh is a British writer and author of three books on Turkey, the Turkic World and the Middle East. I lived in Istanbul for 28 years. Jessica is a writer, therapist and independent scholar. We built The Lazy Olive ourselves as our dream home and after 15 years we'd like to share it with like-minded spirits.
Why they chose this property
Silence, apart from the frogs croaking in spring or the pulse of cicadas in high summer. Swimming in our unique, soft natural pool. Seclusion, since the nearest paved road is a mile (2km) away. Delicious village food, if you engage our housekeeper to cook for you. Sparkling days out on the water, when you charter a boat or join a group leaving from a nearby beach (Adrasan or Cirali). Classical antiquity, with many ancient and beautiful Lycian cities within range (Olympos 10 minutes, Phaselis 25 minutes, Myra 1 hour, Arykanda 1-1/2 hours, Termessos/Aspendos/Perge 2 hours, not to mention the fine museums in Antalya and Demre). Dinners on the beach. But above all, two acres all to yourself to enjoy in the midst of a lovely mountain park.
What makes this property unique
The natural pool, the deep silence and the sense of privacy.
