Sawyers Bay Shacks (small shack)
Sawyers Bay Shacks are a modern interpretation of the iconic Tassie beach shack...simple but stylish accommodation located right on the Flinders Island beachfront surrounded by acres of farmland. Energy efficient with solar and wood fire heating, large open plan living area with decks on three sides and views across Bass Strait to Mt Strzlecki and the outer islands. The small shack is the perfect romantic getaway for couples, but will also sleep up to 4 people - a double room and a twin room. We are located about 10 minutes drive from the airport and 15 minutes from the main town, Whitemark. So while the shacks are isolated on rural land on a safe calm water beach with no public access you are close enough to get the newspapers each day or go out for a meal. Being centrally located on the idyllic West coast we are 40 minutes drive from anywhere on the island.
There are just two shacks on the property (well separated) and there are no onsite managers so you can enjoy your holiday in absolute solitude.
The shacks have a well fitted out kitchen, dishwasher, bluetooth speaker and double sided fireplace on to the deck. All linen and towels are provided. We have plenty of board games, a DVD collection and a small library of books including various reference books on walking tours, Tasmanian aboriginal history, early explorers and flora and fauna. Please let us know if you have any particular interests.
The beachfront in front of the shacks is what makes this place so special - magnificent granite boulders with sandy beaches in between. The Age newspaper recently nominated Sawyers Bay as Australia's top secret beach.
Please note that our rates are inclusive of any number of guests up to 4 people.
Please note that during peak holiday periods we generally require a 5 night minimum although we may be flexible on this depending on other bookings.

A quintessential Tasmanian shack experience. Not luxurious but you go for the location not the details. We were warm and dry and comfortable with views to die for. Birdlife, wildlife , private beach swims ; stars and Aurora - we didn’t need anything else

A little disappointing
We felt this property was overpriced for what it was.
Bathroom was very small
There is a dirty towel behind the door in second bedroom which was way to cramped if you had three children in there
There is a dirty tea towel in the cupboard above the stove stuffed in with dishes
We didn’t cook there, however, the stove looked very worn
Curtains and/or blinds on the glass windows/doors would have been good to keep the heat in as it was very cold
No firewood at our cabin. Luckily there was no one staying in the other cabin and we were able to take some from there
The whole place was cheaply built and demanding high prices
Some upgrading is required if the high prices are to be onging
We would not stay in Sawyers Beach Cabins again however we did enjoy Flinders Island itself and the people are great characters and very friendly
The wildlife was great to see
We hope to return sometime

We pride ourselves on providing a stylish, clean, accommodation in a modern interpretation of the classic Tasmanian beach shack, right on the ocean.
The used tea towel and towel you found had been missed by our cleaner was an oversight that should not have happened and we will follow this up. I note however that you had no complaint about the rest of the clean which we know is always done to a high standard.
The rest of your comments relate to the building and yes we are “sawyers bay shacks” not “sawyers bay luxury apartments”. There is a rich history in Tasmania of simple shacks which are located in incredible beachfront locations and they are highly sought after.
You will find most of the other shacks you can rent in Tasmania are similarly a bit quirky - look at Captains Rest, Whalesong shack or the Crayshack which is an incredible accommodation but with an outside loo.
We are glad
you enjoyed our lovely island but feel maybe have missed something about the essence of shacks which many people are keen to experience.
