The ocean right out front is full of crayfish and abalone. Many varieties of fish are caught right off the beach in front and of course all round the Island
For Bird lovers there is an abundance of life on the beach in front . The house is named after the Ruddy Turnstone which can be seen seasonally on Little Porky Beach. Pied Oyster catchers are a favourite. Sea Eagles are spectacular visitors
Winter guests can enjoy the ambience of the Jindara wood heater. Wood is supplied. Nobo electric wall heaters too warm up the double glazed house in winter. Big sliding doors and ceiling fans provide comfort on the warmest days of summer.

The photos absolutely understated the reality. Turnstone House was everything we had hoped for. Local cheese and bread on arrival, easy to locate key safe and a well appointed outstanding home in an absolutely stunning location. Our hosts David and Bianca were very easy to work with, we were able to access the house immediately we left the airport due to it being empty the previous evening and it was clean and well stocked with fire wood for the evenings. Access to the beach is simple and Turnstone is very central to amenities in Curry, the Airport, King Island Dairy etc. We spent 3 nights, 4 days exploring the island and happily still didn't get to everything. As such we absolutely must return. What a shame

thank you Matt. We are very happy you enjoyed the Island and the house. The Island has a beautiful coast. We are of course biased...but we too think it a wonderful beach house in a beautiful spot. We hope you got to Cataraqui Point

Beyond the cheese factory
Beyond the cheese factory nestled in the grassy dunes is Turnstone Beach House where we stayed for one week.
Toward the ocean the grass gives way to cushion bush and pigsface and beyond this a low rocky headland and sandy beaches. Giant kelp washes up on the beach and rocks and adds to the character.
Tammar wallabies are regulars here and it was nice to see that like the other wildlife (seabirds) they are wild and keep there distance. Blue Throat Wrasse inhabit the rocks and there were Taylor around the beaches (I did some catch and release fishing).
Locally we swam, explored the beaches and rocks, took photos, flew kits, read books and played board games.
The house is well designed for its location and has a great internal layout. Really well provisioned and layed out kitchen and bathrooms. The design gives you plenty of options to adapt to night and day, sun and shade and wind and no wind which enhances its liveability.
The house is well located for adventures across the island, quick trips into Currie and return to airport.
My partner and I and our children 15, 13 and 11 had a good holiday here.

David's property was absolutely amazing. Beautiful, clean, amazing hospitality and communication from both David and Tara. The provided little extras upon arrival which were well enjoyed. Close to everything and the location and views are perfect. Will definitely be back. Thank you so much!

perfectly located getaway. Peaceful and nature at Its best
5 guests were catered for with ease. Outlay was very functional and relaxing. Lovely walks along the coast were at the doorstep and more than enough room for alone time as well.
The house was amazing. Our group was very impressed. Service and attentiveness of the Property Manager was great too. House had everything you’d need to cater for yourself but including wide variety of pantry items you’d need to cook with. We had a very relaxing stay at this wonderful property.

A very special place
Turnstone is a very special property, wonderfully situated, with views from every window. The house is spacious, absorbing guests in such a way that there are plenty of options for privacy or just "get away" time. The huge, well-equipped kitchen is a delight, and the cheese platter on arrival was much appreciated. I can recommend it wholeheartedly.

The perfect location and house.
Six people stayed at this amazing house and enjoyed the daily view from every room in the house of the beautiful ocean. The house has every possible appliance needed, so you could have a BBQ in style or a fine dining experience without leaving the house. The shops are only 10 minute by car and the cheese factory is only five minutes by car. The most relaxing holiday we have every experienced.

About the host
Hosted by David Looker
We love King Island and built this house specifically for this wonderful site set in the teeth of the roaring forties but secure, quiet and warm and of course with spectacular views to the west . We particularly enjoy both the stunning sunsets and the spectacular storms that occasionally blow in
Why they chose this property
Solitude and privacy- but just 15 minutes to town. Several beaches straight out the front door that are public but virtually private as it is rare to see anyone on them
