PLEASE NOTE: we do have on-site Property Caretakers who reside in the adjacent unit at this complex. This is NOT a party Unit and all guests are asked to be respectful of both our caretakers and your neighbours and keep noise to a minimum after 10pm.
With uninterrupted ocean views, the Maheno Cottages are perfectly located approximately half-way up the east coast of K'Gari (Fraser Island). This location enables visitors who wish to explore the island the ability to do a day trips both north and south, taking in what K'Gari (Fraser Island) has to offer: beaches, lakes, creeks, rain forests, 4x4 tracks, sand blows and endless scenery.
Having undergone extensive renovations, the property owners have spared no expense in ensuring guests have all the creature comforts of home.
"Yenningee Bora" is a 3 bedroom cottage, sleeping up 8 people. The Cottage has full ocean views from a large elevated timber deck (secured with a self-closing gate to keep dingoes out), complete with a huge 8-10 seater timber table and large stainless steel outdoor BBQ with kitchen servery - perfect for alfresco dining.
Walking through the front sliding glass doors (complete with CrimSafe screens) into the Cottage is like stepping back in time. Lovingly restored, you are now walking on the original Maheno Shipwreck decking, The teak timber was laid in 1905 onto SS Maheno. The timber deck was removed from the ship when it was marooned just north of Happy Valley in 1935 and used as the flooring in the previous fishing cottage that once stood in place of the now newly-renovated cottage. The builder who completed the renovation was able to salvage the original flooring and give it a new lease of life and now takes pride of place in the main open-plan living area.
The lounge room has a large 3m x 3m L-shaped lounge, complete with a 50" television and huge ceiling fan. With high-raked ceilings, the spacious living area takes full advantage of the uninterrupted ocean views and breeze. The dining room adjoining the lounge room hosts an 8-seater kitchen table.
The 3m x 3.5m L-shaped kitchen comes fully equipped with all modern appliances: oven, gas cook-top and range hood, large fridge/freezer, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, and all kitchen crockery/utensils. An additional fridge and chest freezer (for bait) is provided. Further down the hallway you will find a large, modern bathroom (complete with huge shower, toilet and vanity). With fantastic water pressure and constant hot water heated from the Solar Arc hot water system on the roof (backed up with instantaneous gas), showers will always be hot and enjoyable.
The 2 main bedrooms have queen beds (sleeping 2). Each room has high-raked ceilings, brand-new beds with innerspring mattresses. The third bedroom sleeps 4 (2 king single bunk beds). All bedrooms have 2 port racks, ceiling fans, smoke alarms, security/fly screens and roller blinds on all windows and privacy locks on all doors.
Added Extras:
* ALL BED LINEN IS PROVIDED - bedsheets, pillows, blankets and bath towels
* 24 hour power (48v solar panel battery system) with back-up generator
* Separate (shared with adjacent Cottage) amenities block with a further 2 toilets and 2 showers
* Communal laundry room with top-loader washing machine and external clothes line
* Parking for 2 vehicles and hoses to wash down your vehicles
* External power point to charge your car fridge
* Fully screened (front and back doors have additional CrimSafe)
* Fully insulated walls and ceilings
* Large fish cleaning area and filleting benches (with water connected for wash down)
The Location:
World Heritage listed K'Gari (Fraser Island): the largest sand island in the world. Four-wheel drive through thick, lush rainforest to explore hidden lakes and discover endless tracks.
Conveniently located approximately half-way up the eastern coast of the Island, Yidney Rocks is regarded by many as the ‘jewel’ of the Island, providing ideal access both north and south. Close to many of the Island’s highlights, Yidney Rocks is the perfect base to head north and explore the likes of Eli Creek, Maheno Shipwreck, Indian Head and Champagne Pools. Heading south will take you to Lake Wabby, Eurong and across the Island to Central Station and Lake McKenzie. Alternatively, take the short 40m walk down to the beach and spend your days fishing, right on your doorstep. From the front deck, immerse yourself with breath-taking sunrises over 75 Mile Beach and during whale-watching season (August to October), watch some of the 7000 humpback whales pass through for their annual migration.
Happy Valley is located only 1km away, providing access to full Telstra coverage, fuel, shop, pub and restaurant.
