About this property

Camphill Cottage - rustic charm and comfort

“Camphill" as it has been known in the district since 1860 - is not just a farm stay - it’s an echo of a time zone - one of confident simplicity, dramatic landscapes and birdsong chorus. Situated a five minute drive from the cafes, wineries, restaurants, antique shops and old pubs of historic Rylstone, it is the ideal option for those seeking peace, privacy, space and authenticity. We offer two houses with accommodation on a 60 acre horse establishment - Camphill Homestead and Camphill Cottage.

CAMPHILL COTTAGE:

This charming, rustic cottage offers two queen size bedrooms and a large mezzanine loft with three single beds, and a sofa bed in a small reading room (sleeping a total of eight).
All beds are endowed with quality manchester and electric blankets. The large living area is equipped with a cosy wood fire and reverse cycle air conditioner. A glass enclosed verandah on the northern side looks out over a large dam to the mountains and at sunset will still the buzziest mind. The eastern verandah looks toward original haysheds and horse stables from a bygone era.

CAMPHILL HOMESTEAD:

Camphill Homestead is situated on a horse establishment where horses graze the green paddocks bound by post and rail fencing. The property dates back to the 1860s and had it’s origins as a Cobb & Co blacksmith’s shop forging horse shoes, farm implements, carriage wheels and tools necessary for life in the Central West. The original stone “blacksmith’s forge” still stands to this day located on the 60 acre property.

Established gardens are a mixture of native and deciduous trees and plants providing shade and habitat for native fauna such as wombats, wallabies and native birdlife.

Camphill offers accommodation for large groups with the recent listing of both Camphill Cottage and Camphill Homestead (please see listing for Camphill) sleeping a total of 16 for large groups, family gatherings, holidays, or any excuse to get together and recharge.

Activites we suggest to explore:

Fern Tree Gully
Wollemi National Park (swimming, canoeing, birding)
Windemere Dam (swimming, fishing, waterskiing)

For “Birders”:
Breakfast Creek Road (walking distance)
Rylstone Common (5 minute drive)
Wollemi National Park (15 minute drive)

For Motorcross fans:
the Lue Enduro Bike Track hosts a venue of National renown just a 10 minute drive away.

Rylstone Olive Press (delicious olive oil of international renown)
Yum Cha at 29 nine 99 in Rylstone (authentic Cian dumplings)

Fantastic cottage. We will return. Wonderful host. Simply loved it.

What a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. Janet our host was so wonderful and went to the trouble of making sure everything was perfect. She also had great advise about what to do in the area. The kids had a ball. Camp Cottage was the perfect family retreat. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful house and amazing host.

The house was amazing! Old rustic feel but very nice and well maintained. We stayed in winter and loved the fireplace and the in floor heating in the bathroom. Amazing host! Cheeses crackers and bread left out for arrival. The kitchen had all the essential bits and pieces. The area is amazing with plenty to do. Definitely recommend.

Fabulous cosy cottage

What a wonderful weekend our family had at Camphill Cottage. Such a fantastic place to relax and unwind. Janet was the perfect host being generous and very informative. My daughters loved feeding the horses the carrots that Janet dropped off to us. Such a great place close to Louee Motorcross Tracks which is where we also visited whilst we stayed. Will definitely be back to visit this pristine area and beautiful little cottage. Thanks Janet xx

Cosy and welcoming cottage

On arrival Janet had the fire going which was inviting and appreciated. The cottage was very cosy and clean. The kitchen was very well equipped which is not always the case when staying in cottages. We loved Rylstone and in particular De Beaurepaire Winery which we visited twice. The wines were superb. Mudgee was only a 25 minute drive so also visited a couple of wineries. Unfortunately there was so much to do we didn't get a chance to eat at the Globe Hotel or Yum Cha but definitely a must for next time.

A Relaxing Start to the Year

My Mother and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Camp Hill Cottage at the start of the new year. The property is really cozy and well equipped, Janet provided all the essentials you could need for a short stay. The property is close to Rylstone which is a cute little country town with some nice cafes, pubs and two supermarkets. It is a 30 minute drive to Mudgee which I highly recommend for any foodie. Janet also suggested nearby Dunns Swamp which was absolutely beautiful and great for a picnic. The highlight was feeding the horses on the farm and getting to know Janet who is a very lovely and interesting lady. We will definitely be back again! *Please note this stay was in January 2018. The Stayz website has not been updated to include the current year.

Home away from home

This property suited us well for the 5 nights we stayed. Great cottage charm with a cozy fire and warm undertile heating in the bathroom. We needed this for our first night as reports said it got down to minus 9 in the area! The towels and linen were very clean and plenty of. The property was great for our 2 little boys who spent plenty of time kicking the ball around and throwing the frisbee, oh and i cant forget the hide and seek. Plenty of great spots to hide. Wouldnt receommend the upstairs area for little kids as the stair case is rather steep so we put our parents up there. Didnt realise it was a 30 odd minute drive to Mudgee CBD but its a nice, easy drive. Thanks again!

Country Comfort

This property was fantastic for our week long stay. It was spacious, has rooms for all seasons; the sunny, closed-in verandah was perfect for reading on a chilly morning with coffee, while the other verandahs would suit a hot summer evening. The views over the surrounding farmland were spectacular, especially at sunset. We were especially grateful for the fire and plentiful firewood, the underfloor heating in the bathroom, and the electric blankets on the bed during our stay! Easy distance to Rylstone town centre for everything you need. Janet was a fantastic host with lots of great recommendations of places to visit.

Cosy and relaxing

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Janet was the perfect host. The historical property was so rich in character, cosy and had everything you needed to have an amazing stay. Beds were comfy, lots of seating options, wonderful fireplace, great free wi-fi... it had it all. The complimentary free fresh, eggs, bread and butter amongst other things was greatly appreciated. We loved the horses and the wildlife we got to see. We look forward to returning in the future.

Tranquil vista

Our family enjoyed our stay en route to Dubbo. The property was absolutely spotless and every item I used in the kitchen was sparklingly clean. It was so thoughtful of Janet to have the fire going for our arrival. The outlook was so relaxing and tranquil and the kids fell in love with Harry the horse. We enjoyed lazing in the garden and on the lawn watching the sun go down.

Beautiful retreat

We had a wonderful relaxing stay. Close enough to Rylestone and Kandos to catch Cementa 19 and see friends and far enough to enjoy the peace of the country. Everything was perfect including the breakky provisions and wonderful marmalade

Willow springs wedding

This home was well suited regarding distance. The home itself was clean and facilities were great( another toilet would have been easier with a large family) The horses were of interest to the boys as were the grounds to run around in. Janet was very accessible and wanted to assist with any questions. One of my sons left his wallet on a stool outside and it’s surprising to find it was still there, goes to show how nice to be living in the country side Thanks Janet

Wow! What a beautiful place!

We loved every minute of our stay at Camphill Cottage! This place is so well set up - from the comfy beds to the great towels and the fresh bread and eggs ready on arrival. Janet is such a lovely and generous host and was available and helpful for any queries we had. Our kids loved feeding her horses and we loved having dinner outside with the cute fairy lights sparkling. Thank you Janet for making us feel so welcome, we will most definitely be back. Melanie

Nice, relaxing and comfortable

Janet was very helpful and friendly. Met us at the house on arrival and gave us a run down on the property and the surrounding attractions. The house was clean and comfortable and it was great to be able to take our dog with us. The kids loved the loft space! We were a little disappointed with the lack of interaction with the horses, as we were expecting a "working" farm. Some of the other reviews were misleading. Feeding the horses meant buying our own food from town to feed them over the fence. Lovely gentle horses, but the kids were disappointed as they too were expecting more of a farm stay (which we have experienced many times at other similar properties). The wood fire was great and kept us warm. The air con and wifi were not working at the time, and we have problems with getting the oven (Janet did mention other guests had the same problem, but it took an hour to get it to light) going so visited the Shed bistro next to the globe hotel in Rylstone for dinner a few times. Great food! Also the local bakery and butcher in Rylstone were amazing.

Beautiful rustic property with a great outlook.

We stayed with the family and the kids had a great time. They loved feeding the horses. We really enjoyed sitting outside around the fire watching the sunset with a glass of wine. My son had a great time riding his bike around the property.

Peaceful and comfortable cottage. Great host who makes you feel welcome.

We (family of 4 and the dog) spent 2 nights and had a great time at the Camphill Cottage. The space is charming, spacious and comfortable. Lots of space inside and out. Hunter, our Border Collie had a great time running around the farm and playing. From the time we booked our host Janet made us feel welcome. She provided us with lots of useful information about the area and things to do. Highly recommend for families who look for a relaxing rural farmstay. Try the Yum Cha place in Rylstone, great food.
