Reunion
We booked, based on dates for family reunion. Dates changed, but owner could not grasp that booking was for 2023, not 2022. He declined to change, so cousin booked necessary dates and we shared the house. Owner was most amenable to this. My family had stayed in this house, several times, when my sister and I were young. We had loved it. Improvements to the house are wonderful - ensuite bathroom, internal toilets! In our day, there was an outdoor dunny! The house is a beautiful, Queenslander style, with Art Deco hints. However, it was a bit down-at-heel, in need of a good clean and replacement of some fixtures - missing light fittings, dirty ceiling fans. Pantry was not supplied - no foil, clingwrap, oil, pepper, no oven mitts. We found salt, eventually, but grinders were empty. We were bombarded by messages - take off shoes, don’t leave marks on dining table, take short showers, because the septic tank won’t cope with excess water. Annoying! The house was advertised as accommodating 14 guests! Not a chance. The downstairs dungeon was likely not even legal! Multiple beds, but no toilet/bathroom. Three bedrooms, two toilets; one bathroom and one ensuite, for 14 people. Top dollar. Great for parties of 6 adults, not for any more.
