About this property
Nessie's House Hobart
Our welcoming house is located in the beautiful suburb of New Town, 3 km from the centre of Hobart and just 8 km from MONA. Our beautifully cared for home has all you need for a truly local stay in beautiful Hobart. There are lovely cafes nearby and a supermarket just down the road. Ample off street parking is also available and regular bus services to the city centre are available every 10 minutes. We have created a home to make your stay as comfortable and as relaxing as possible.
Nessie's house comprises 3 spacious bedrooms each with a queen size bed and built in wardrobes. The master bedroom is particularly large if you have a small child and need space for a portacot (we have both a high chair and portacot available for guests to use).
There are 2 bathrooms. One of the showers is over a small bath (suitable for bathing small children).
We have a fully equipped kitchen with gas hot plates, electric oven, microwave and dishwasher. Coffee and tea and other pantry essentials are provided.
NBN broadband is connected to the property and is included in the price as is Netflix. We also have a range of board games to offer you for those nights you may choose to stay in after a day of sight seeing.
You will have the entire main house to yourself with a small rear courtyard that is equipped with outdoor table and chairs and a BBQ.
Whilst we live to the rear of the main house in our own self contained tiny house, you have your own dedicated access to the main house and the properties are physically separate. We are busy people, popping in and out but will always be contactable to answer any questions you may have - ultimately the level of interaction is up to you.
As Ness is a Hobart local she can offer you insights to Hobart and the wider region that you often cant find in a guidebook or at a hotel reception.
We both love to cook and are happy to arrange vegan dinner parties/lunches/breakfasts upon request.
Sometimes we go away (camping etc) so we may not even be there after we have checked you in.
We are contactable via mobile phones.
No parties and no more than 6 people at any time (small children are an exception). Strictly a no smoking house. We love animals but sorry, no pets.
New Town is a beautiful and picturesque residential suburb of inner city Hobart. New Town was one of the first suburbs to be created in Australia and the architecture of the period homes reflects this history. Nessie's House was built in 1929 and is a traditional weatherboard home of that era. We have cared for our home over the years and it is lovingly presented. It is homely and welcoming.
New Town is only 4km from the CBD and 8km to MONA. There is a Woolworths supermarket 200m down the street and a small shopping centre with ATMs, Australia Post/newsagent, Coles, KMart, bottle shop, bakeries, chemist and butcher 800m away.
There are some lovely local cafes within walking distance serving breakfast and lunch options and the North Hobart Restaurant strip and State Cinema are within 2km. The Hill Street Grocer a gourmet produce store also selling local Tasmanian produce (including fruit and veg) is just 1km away.
The Calvery Hospital is 1km away.
If you like to walk, our House is located not far from the foothills of Mount Wellington. There are a number of trails that start from the back of Lenah Valley and lead into the Mount Wellington Reserve. We are happy to tell you more about this should it interest you.
There are buses that run from New Town Road (300m walk from the house and 15 mins duration) to the CBD approx every 10 minutes.
Buses to MONA (approx 40 mins duration) also run via the bus stop on New Town Road.
An UBER into the centre of Hobart will cost approximately $10 depending on the time of day.
There is also a lovely waterfront walking path that takes you from New Town to the Wharf area/Salamanca Place via the Hobart Botanical Gardens. This path is a longer journey into the CBD but a lovely walk nonetheless.
