Once we finally got access to the rental things were great.

Lovely, quiet property. Location was fantastic for what we wanted to see and do in Kyoto during our short stay. However there was a total lack of instructions and communication from the manager. No check-in instructions were sent, no replies to my message sent through VRBO two days prior to our arrival. We arrived on-site to find no one there to help us check in and no access to the unit. Luckily there was a family in the other rental unit who had the host's tel # and we were able to call and get the combination to the lock-box with the key.
