FALCONS VIEW: Spacious Studio with Breathtaking Views

Falcons View is nestled in the Ruahine Ranges. Private and elevated there are views of the rolling rural landscapes from every window.
The Studio is a low voltage off-grid system. There is a Queen Bed, Self-contained kitchenette, wood stove, gas cooker, and solar lighting. It still gets reception for most mobile internet technology. With access to native bush walks, hiking trails, and local wetlands, there is plenty to see while you are here, but take a break; genuinely rest. Unplug and slow down, that's what Falcons View is for.
A significant highlight is the OPTIONAL outside Wood Fired Hot tub that can be requested for $150 hire.

We had an excellent experience at Falcon’s View for three nights. Will be back! The cabin is private, clean, and has an amazing view. Great walking trails from the cabin leading further up in the mountains. The spa pool was the cherry on top.

Great little hidaway in the foothills Ruahine forest park. Fantastic views on a clear day.We drove our 4x4 car up to the cabin but that will not be suitable for everyone, so it is great that the host comes with a sidebyside to bring you and your gear up to the cabin. Had a great walk up in the hils behind Falcons View.

Such a lovely place to stay! Kitchen utensils all stocked and two gas cookers to cook with. Bed and couch super comfortable, and lots of firewood outside for when we ran out. ATV ride up and down was a great part of the experience and all our luggage fit! Wouldn’t bring too many perishables if staying longer than three days as even the best chilly bin can’t keep milk cold for that long!

What a View

Stayed with my partner for a couple of days and deeply enjoyed it. We really needed to rest and Falcons view was the perfect spot for it. Orelle and Hamish were really friendly!

The property was exactly what we wanted, it was peaceful and in the depths of nature. The views each night of the sunset or stars where amazing and the area including the property has many hidden pieces for you to explore. Highly recommend

A perfect getaway in the countryside!

I recently had the most amazing experience staying at the flacons view studio in Rangiwahia, and I cannot recommend it enough! If you're looking for a peaceful and rejuvenating escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the perfect place for you.

Spectacular Falcons View

A beautiful bush fringe location. Awesome views with a glimpse of Mount Egmont. A quiet and relaxing off the grid weekend experience. We would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a hideaway vacation.

The most relaxing getaway imaginable

Everything from the communication to the amenities was perfect. Orelle and Hamish are great hosts that go above and beyond, we had the most relaxing weekend of our lives at this stunning property and would come back in a heartbeat. Little luxuries like scented candles really elevated it to the next level, the only thing that could possibly improve this property is a sharp knife in the kitchen but that didn't damper our stay at all.

Refreshing bush hideaway

Well appointed self-contained cottage nooked into the Ruahine Range bush. Extremely private with a terrific view. We crashed for a good week literally under a starstudded sky. Kereru kept us company during the day and moreporks at night. We slept, read, ate ( and ate) and lapped up the local walks, river swims and bush walks. We grilled on the bbq and fired up the ingenius homebuilt spa. We both had had an over busy year and this was a wonderful place to recharge and get set for the year to come. Couldn't recommend highly enough. Attentive and flexible hosts. You won't be disappointed! ps loads of places to visit off the beaten track.

Lovely space

Lovely space with beautiful views. Weather was rather rainy but luckily had the hot tub to warm up. Host was very nice generously helped carry bags up to the property. Definitely needs a few more kitchen tools however - there was one small knife and no bread knife or BBQ tools. Had to make do with plastic tools which is obviously not ideal on hot metal. Would've also been great to have fly screens on the kitchen window so bugs don't come in when it's open for cooking ventilation. Wonderful overall :)

This is such a beautiful place to reset and relax! We loved the wood fire hot tub so much and the fireplace inside was so cozy. The views and sunsets were amazing, we are speechless and can not wait to come back again soon. The bush trail was super fun to explore as well. Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful spot .

A wonderful place to be in. Very well maintained. All one needs is there, all one wants to escape from isn't. Perfect place for two but be prepared for long chats in the spa pool while the evening sets in. Don't forget the red wine, the next supermarket is a wee bit away.

If you want to be remote from the world and just enjoy being together in a simple but very well presented cabin then this is for you. We played cards, read books, loved the wood fire and cooked up some good food. The walking track out back was a bonus. While out walking I spotted some deer grazing in a nearby paddock. The spa pool option which we paid for surprised me. Arriving on a very cold afternoon to find that we had to spend two hours stoking the fire to warm the water was a surprise. I'm not sure what we paid for but we never used it. It would have been great if it had been warmed up on arrival.

The McDonald’s moved to Rangiwahia in 2009. Hamish and Orelle chose to home-educate their growing family and as a result, each of the children have been hands-on developing the land, buildings, gardens, animal husbandry, machinery and most anything that pertains to the country living lifestyle. They are not superhuman. The years have not come without challenges. Falcons View was created to take time out from the intensity of those challenges. The family have chosen to share that with others.

Why they chose this property

Falcons View is situated on 70 acres of farmland with regenerated bush at the foothills of the Ruahine Ranges. Designed and built in 2019 by the family, it became an avenue to bless others and to financially support their large family and charitable endeavors. Profits are used to sponsor and support health, education and humanitarian aid projects in New Zealand and the South Pacific through ADRA. What makes this property unique

This retreat was named Falcons View due to the frequent NZ Falcon's that live in the surrounding habitats and also for the sprawling vastness that drenches each window.
The optional wood fired Hot Tub makes you feel like time can slow down after all. With the cosy wood stove during the colder months, the simple studio layout and complimentary off-grid power, it still has the comforts of home that will make your stay a place to renew your strength and reach new heights again.
