The host Suzanne truly made us feel like we were home. From the time we checked in until we left we felt like we had a new friend. The property was just as described. The house was packed with all of the essentials and more. The views and scenery are the property were breathtaking. The property was in close proximity to all of our extra activities we planned. Suzanne was the perfect hose and made us feel so welcome.

LAVENDER BY THE SEA IS LOVELY
This property is everything that is described and MORE!! We rented rhe Cottage and Carriage house (for our daughters). It was far enough to feel they could be on their own but close enough to walk to. The wildlife we saw was spectacular. My favorite was the luna moth that landed on the cabin twice. And the hummingbird that came to the door. Suzanne is a Peach!! So sweet and helpful. She even bought a birthday cake for my daughter when I mentioned it in our booking. Our stay was exactly what we needed (hadnt been to Maine in 5 years.) This was the perfect place to come back to. Book this now!! You will not regret it!

Amazing Getaway
We absolutely loved our visit to Maine and our stay at lavender by the sea! From the moment we walked in we felt like we were at our home away from home. The cottage was very well kept and clean! The overall feel was cozy and comfortable! It’s so nice that Susan left snacks for us which were great to take to the parks! The cottage is set up perfect and very roomy! Even in the winter the the views are breathtaking! I also absolutely cannot forget Gigi! What a joy having this sweet girl come visit in the mornings and explore the property with us. We highly recommend and if our travels bring us back to Maine we will be staying here again!

About the host

Hosted by Suzanne Bessette

Host profile image
I grew up in Massachusetts and lived in Louisiana for many years. After many years away from New England and missing the seasons, I wandered back up to the coast of Maine.
One of my greatest joys was my daughter and her family moving from Louisiana to Maine! I have enjoyed living in Maine and the property has provided many opportunities to host family events.
I am excited to share this wonderful retreat with others.

Why they chose this property

Lavender by the Sea was originally a camp for fishing and kayaking.
After I purchased it we excavated everything to the exterior walls to make way for a
new plumbing, electric and insulation. The camp was transformed into a charming cottage.
The cottage rests close to the water at the end of Penobscot River just as it opens into the Bay. A large lavender garden terraced down to the sea lies in sight from your windows. Depending on the weather, expect lavender in bloom in early to mid-July. You will find sea lavender on the shore mid-August. Enjoy the Gazebo for breakfast, lunch or drinks at sunset. There is a horseshoe pit available and if you are experienced, kayaking in the summer. A snowy winter will afford you the opportunity of cross country skiing or snow shoeing.
Eight miles away is Bucksport, a mill-town that is entering a new and exciting era. Enjoy the brothers' brew at the Friars Brewhouse Tap Room in town. Tucked away you will find a great bistro, Verona Wine and Design run by Michael and Charlene. Great hosts with excellent food, music many summer nights and wine tastings. You will find natives and tourists gathered around Wahl's Dairy Port. As you head out of Bucksport stop at Carrier's Mainly Lobster - BJ will treat you right!
Acadia National Park is only 35 miles from the Cottage... and if you desire the hustle and bustle of a touristy destination - Bar Harbor is mere minutes from Acadia Park. Visiting both would make a great day trip.
Blue Hill, a small art community, offers unique shopping and wonderful hiking.
Don't forget Castine home of Maine Maritime Academy - it wakes up during the summer and should be explored!

What makes this property unique

The views from Lavender on the Sea are breath-taking.
The ambiances are both invigorating and tranquil. The property is home to deer, wild turkey, a red fox, eagles, loons and birds of all kinds.
There won't be a massive humming air-conditioner, instead cool breezes will keep you comfortable and looking for a sweater in the evening.
