About the host
Hosted by Deborah Side

I have been vacationing in Wellfleet with my family for 20+ years. We have always enjoyed this special part of the Cape for its ocean and bay beaches, kettle ponds, bike trails and Hatch's fish market. In 2017 I bought this very unusual house in the Field Point area of Indian Neck and enjoyed redesigning, renovating and decorating it. Since 2019 we have been renting it on VRBO. I love sharing it with guests who also experience the magic that this special place has to offer.
I am a musician and recently retired public school music teacher. I live in Boston. I love gardening and especially creating Japanese gardens. Other interests are cooking especially ethnic and vegetarian cooking, baking (I used to be a pastry chef in an earlier life), birding and foraging.

Why they chose this property
The house is set on an acre and a half of pine woods, with a beautiful view of the tidal marsh. It is at the end of a road so it is very secluded and private. The marsh has much to offer throughout the day: sunrise on the marsh, beautiful lighting throughout the day and the incoming/outgoing tide twice a day. Wildlife such as turtles, blue heron, seagulls and birds of all type come visit the marsh and can be viewed from either the living area or sitting room area or any of the decks. There is a great horned owl that lives in the woods and can be heard at night. There are also ladyslipper orchids that grow wild on the property if you are lucky enough in late May or early June to stay at the house.
The house was originally designed by Charles Forberg, son in law of Walter Gropius of the Bauhaus movement. The house has 7 sliding glass doors that look out at the beautiful marsh and woods. It is easy enough to feel like you are living outside with so much access to the beauty but within the comforts of a luxury house.

What makes this property unique
My house is a short drive to downtown Wellfleet which boasts art galleries, fine and casual restaurants, bookstores and places to browse and shop. The ocean side of Wellfleet has ocean beaches with surf and beautiful beaches. The bay side ocean offers gentle beaches, perfect for families with young children and beautiful sunsets. There are several fresh water kettle ponds nearby that offer refreshing places to go swimming. Cape Cod National Seashore is close by with walking and bike trails, ranger led activities, and pristine ocean beaches. Among other activities to do in Wellfleet is golf at the Chequessett Neck golf club, mini golf, drive in theater in the summer months, a farmer's market with local musicians playing, concerts in town and nearby towns, library, yoga and fitness center.
The house is also a close walk to two private bay beaches if you don't want to get in the car and travel anywhere.
