A great little find! So comfortable and cosy, and the we had everything we needed for a couple of nights away. The stars were beautiful from outside and inside the hut, bathing under the stars was lovely, and the photos and railway knickknacks just tied everything together.
After a manic couple of weeks navigating Christmas and a large family wedding 'Auroras Landing' was the perfect escape. Perched above the lake it offered beautiful views, quirky, yet well appointed and comfortable accommodation, and easy access to the varied activities Lake Brunner has to offer. We took advantage of the new lake cycle track ( still being built) and the proximity to the West Coast Wilderness Trail. There were beautiful walking tracks nearby - the Arnold Dam track was an easy wander and a delight as was the discovery of the miniature bungalow built in the 1930s by students of Jack's Mill School. Chrissy and Ken were lovely hosts and even arranged for a clear night sky on our final so we could sit in the bath and star gaze. Magic! Our only complaint was that our 5 days in this uniquely New Zealand accomodation went too quickly.
Everything this place has to offer is great! Highly recommend using the pizza oven, outdoor bath and staying up to see if the stars come out. Chatting with the owners is a must as they are super friendly! We will 100% be back to stay here as the price is unmatched when compared to other stays around.
Had everything we needed and more - Was a lovely warm cozy place to stay.
A Memory we will share for years to come relaxing in the day room and watching the stars above beside a warm fire.
Great hospitality, fresh eggs, hot pizza. Most relaxing comfortable placed i've ever stayed.
Amazing character property!
Stunning views across the lake & nice quiet location.
Near to owners house, but still feels very private.
Bedroom/kitchen/bathroom caboose is quite compact, but we’ll laid out & if you enjoy staying in a caravan or motor home you won’t have an issue. Attached covered deck very nice & makes it all feel much bigger.
Seperate Perspex enclosed carriage with daybed, bath, fire & couch seating is very spacious, warm & comfortable.
Pizza oven works a treat & we put that to good use.
Definitely recommend & we’d love to stay again!
What an amazing experience and kind host. Chrissy put some local milk and fresh eggs from her hens in the fridge alongside some jam. What a nice attention!! The fire and pizza oven, the cherry on top of the cake. We had an amazing sunset over the lake and the sky full of stars. Perfect for stargazing in the bathtub. INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!
Thank you
The only thing I regret is not taking another person's review advice and cooking pizza both nights in the pizza oven! It was great. Views were stunning.
A truly unforgettable experience, staying in this fully equipped, cozy wee caboose upon a hill viewing the lake and surroundings hills and snow capped mountains with the most comfortable and warm bed ever and they have thought of everything possible to make sure all needs are meet during your stay . Cozy Comfortable Lovely 😍
Then your next step is the experience of the viewing deck. Wow! What a absolutely amazing space !! The roaring fire with plenty if wood . Experimenting with flavours making delicious pizzas and dessert in the easy to use pizza oven .
HUGE cast iron bathtub with bubbles, turn out the lights and take in one of the most stunning views of the night sky's around, it is mesmerizing and a truly unforgettable experience.
Will definitely be back to stay again soon !!
It was refreshing to stay in this quirky rural setting completely off the grid. It suited us as we're used to a house bus. The sleeping and living are compact but a clear dome makes up for this as a fabulous spot to wind down; either in the bath
or on the lounger when it's covered! Very well appointed with breakfast provided; muesli, eggs, bread, honey... And on top of that Chrissy makes beautiful body lotions.
Totally unique off-grid experience.
Would highly recommend this place to those who value something completely different while still maintaining all the comforts of home.
The main carriage is what i could imagine a train trip on the Ghan to be, compact but extremely comfortable with heating, hot water and a very comfortable bed with amazing views over the lake.
The other carriage has been very well designed for maximum exposure (while protected), to the beauty of the surrounding nature and views while being private at the same time.
Great fireplace and bath, and yes you can look up and see the stars at night.
The accommodation is a true surprise! Comfortable, well appointed, excellent views, close to Moana and 30 minutes from Greymouth. Need to be mindful that the shower/toilet and kitchen are RV (recreational vehicle) sized. There is an outside, covered, private, bath and shower. Outside lounge area is warm and comfortable with a log burner for winter.
Hint: pay attantion when the hosts explain how the differnt facilities work.
Wiil return!
We stayed for two nights at this unique getaway and really enjoyed the experience. The clever design incorporates all the facilities you need while experiencing life in a tiny/ mobile home. The owners are lovely and respected our privacy. Breakfast supplies were provided so you can make your own when it suited. The pizza oven was fun to use, so much so we made pizzas both nights for dinner (use small pizza bases.) Watching the sunsets and stars at night without getting attacked by mosquitoes was a romantic treat.
This was by far our most favorite place we stayed in New Zealand. The hosts were amazing and everything was as described. We loved the Caboose and the additional sitting area. It was private and clean. We CANNOT say enough good things about the host and this place, thank you so much!
We had a wonderful stay and the location is great. The home is bursting with character and so much to see and do. Chrissy is helpful and accommodating - everything is well thought out and we felt very welcome. We can’t wait to visit again!
