About this property

The Pink Lake Tiny House - 'Sakura' - Lake Bumbunga (Lochiel)

A uniquely crafted, specifically designed and hand-built, eco-friendly “tiny house”, situated directly across from South Australia’s most accessible and iconic pink lake - Lake Bumbunga.

Cosy and tastefully decorated inside with many thoughtful and clever design features. Downstairs there is a living area, kitchen and bathroom, and upstairs 2 loft bedrooms with authentic Japanese futon beds. The outdoor deck has a very comfortable "egg" chair and table and chairs that overlook the pink lake. A variety of entertainment options including board and card games and karaoke wifi microphones are provided.

The tiny house is a self-contained primarily "off-the-grid” accommodation facility, ensuring your stay is gentle on the planet. Electrical power is generated through solar panels on the roof and then stored in a battery. Rainwater is collected on the roof and stored in a 5,000-litre tank. The bio-composting toilet is odourless and eco-friendly. For guest comfort, mains electricity and mains water are also connected as back-up.

Perfect accommodation for a unique getaway for either couple or family with children (suggested over five years old due to the loft bedrooms).

Take stunning pictures of the pink lake at the best times of sunset and sunrise. The location is also very convenient for day trips to both Clare Valley and Yorke Peninsula.

Best First Tiny House Experience Ever 😊
My 15 year old son and I have only glowing things to say about our 3 night stay at The Pink Lake Tiny House 😊 To begin with, the location was beautiful and unique - directly across from the Pink Lake, with its stunning sunrises and shifting hues of...pink! Noise from the trucks and semis on the main road was surprisingly reassuring, as there’s not much around other than the yummy cafe next door, and the church which was empty during our mid-week stay. It was the epitome of an Australian country getaway experience - somehow the perfect balance of serenity in nature, and intermittent buzz of humanity! The tiny house itself was such a delight. Super modern, gorgeous mix of Japanese and European influence, with a fresh clean smell that welcomed us the minute we stepped through the door. My son loves all things Japanese, so the experience of sleeping on futon beds in the upstairs lofts, (complete with cute plush toys and tatami mats on the floor), removing shoes inside, and the overall “cute” vibe of the house will have to do until he is able to actually make the trip to Japan! Like many others, I’m becoming obsessed with the concept of living in a small house, and The Pink Lake Tiny House was the perfect first experience to see how it’s done. The eco-toilet was not smelly at ALL, and was easy to use with clear instructions from Michael, our host. We felt very conscious of the water and power we were using, and felt more inclined to respect the little patch we were living on for those 3 nights 😊 Very inspiring. Our host Michael definitely deserves his super host rating...easy to communicate with, speedy email responses to questions, and one of our highlights was when he thoughtfully drove up with a fire pit on our last night, providing deck chairs, marshmallows, and a chat! We’d thoroughly recommend this place, and we have a feeling we’ll be back again soon!

Would recommend
Property was perfect for a weekend stay. Right next to a great cafe that did one of the best breakfasts we have had! Even though it is located on the main road and plenty of trucks driving past the sound didn’t bother us. Great location for a trip to the beach or dinner in Clare. Really enjoyed the games that were provided especially the karaoke microphones. Would 10/10 recommend to stay here.

This was one of the best stays in one of the best locations we've been to so far. I've always dreamt of staying in a tiny house and this was the perfect location to do it. Pink Lake is magical in all lights, sunrise sunset, sun or clouds. Remote and beautiful, with the Pink Lake right in front, stars at night. It is so cute and comfortable. There's everything you could possibly need for a short stay, plus more. The only negative is noise from high speed highway and trucks from time to time, but earplugs are provided, although at night, the number of vehicles greatly reduce. Absolutely loved it. Wished we could stay forever! :)

Hi I'm Michael, the Co-owner who was born and lived most of my life in South Australia. I have travelled widely and have lived interstate and overseas. With many years of experience of working in the International tourism industry, I enjoy hosting guests, media and travel agents and showcasing authentic South Australian experiences to visitors. I aim to provide a unique tiny house experience delivered with a high standard of cleaning and with exceptional customer service. I enjoy reading positive reviews from our guests.

Why they chose this property

This tiny house is purpose designed to offer a unique experience of tiny house living with a strong focus on eco-sustainability.
Tiny houses have generated considerable media interest recently, but very few are available to stay in as short term accommodation.
Perfect as for a memorable getaway for singles, couples and families (up to 4 guests).

What makes this property unique

The majority of people who drive from Adelaide to see the pink salt lake come during the middle of the day, unfortunately missing the best times to see the lake, which is at dusk and dawn. So to get the best social media photos, why not stay nearby?
There is a lot of interest in tiny houses around the world now - so stay in one for yourself and try it out?
Guests really enjoy living a simple life for a day or two and the the entertainment options provided are also a great way to connect with your travelling companions.
