Lovely, tranquil, old, cool house and garden in a great area for accessing coast and inland. Pictures of house and garden need a little updating (e.g no baby swing) but general beauty and space and tranquility as shown and described. Great communication with owner who resolved any difficulties we had promptly and efficiently. Would recommend to families or group.

great house with lovely big garden in rural area
We loved our stay at Les Mojhettes. The property was well maintained and had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday. The garden was big and very private and great to relax in when we returned from exploring this lovely rural area of western France. We certainly could recommend it in the future to friends. We explored much of the area and there was a great variety of places to see. We loved our visit to Cognac to the distillery and enjoyed La Rochelle and Ile de Re. The Venise Verte is also worth a visit. I found the village markets wonderful for fresh fish, chicken, fruit and veg. Overall such a relaxing stay in France. Thanks to the owner, Vicki, for a stay in this lovely house in the Charente Poitou.

Wonderful house for a family
This house is a wonderful place to stay, especially for a young family. It is great for babies and children with a 'proper' cot, lots of toys, stairgates, high chair and change mat provided.
The garden is secluded and large with swings, bikes and a sandpit - our 3 year old was in her element and our 8 month old just sat and watched her! When the weather was good enough we enjoyed eating outside in the evenings (and a few games of table tennis!)
Having 2 bathrooms was great (brilliant shower) and the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need.
Vicki is really prompt in answering any questions and very helpful before, during and after our stay (even helping us locate a left behing teddy).
I can't recommend this property enough - the photos do not do justice to the size of the garden and house.

Wonderful restful week
We arrived having spent a week in a Eurocamp which had its plus points but this was planned to be the more relaxing leg of the holiday - we weren't disappointed. The accommodation is superb with all of the necessary amenities provided. This was our first experience of a gite and I think that we were a little spoilt. It was clean and well presented, the pictures are an accurate reflection of the state of the property.
Chaban is a really peaceful village and the neighbours are very welcoming without being intrusive. Our kids loved the table tennis table, bikes and other toys that were left for their use, there's plenty of bike rides to go on although ours were a bit too young to go exploring too far.
The nearest beach is a bit of a drive away but we were prepared for that, Fouras, Il de Re (16 Eur toll though) and La Rochelle are all worth a visit; a car is a must but the destination is usually worth the effort of getting there.
We found Vicki very easy to deal with and there's a lot of handy information around to help you plan and make the best of your holiday. There's a really handy local supermarket a short drive away.
It was such a safe and spacious environment for a family with young children - we can't recommend it highly enough, we'll hopefully be making another trip there soon as there is so much that we didn't get time to see and do.

Ideal
We had a really good holiday at Les Mojhettes. Excellent and peaceful location, close enough to the coast and many other attractions.
The property has been renovated to a good standard; it was clean, well maintained, spacious and well equipped, particularly the kitchen with the dishwasher, large fridge and great size family table.
The children had a lovely time playing badminton, table tennis and volleyball with Vicki's children and that was a real bonus.
Vicki made the booking process and holiday very relaxed.
Activities and attractions in the local area we liked included the beach at Fouras, La Rochelle (port, town and aquarium), boat hire at Arcais and the high ropes centre near La Rochelle.
A week really wasn't long enough, we hope to go back next year and would recommend it to others too.

Total Relaxation, Rural Idyll, Good Base Location
This is 3 star plus, but the system doesn't allow half stars. Loved the wide open countryside with no one to see for miles. Quiet roads, easy to get around (a car is a must), plenty of private safe parking (gated drive) and pleasant extensive grounds with interesting plants and nature. Peaceful village, blissful calm. Warm weather everyday without being over-powering, though air-con for the car essential when out in the middle of the day. Plenty of space in our end of the farmhouse, three reasonable sized bedrooms, though a 5' bed would have been a welcome bonus. Loved the shutters, really worked well with the heavy masonry walls maintaining a nicely cool interior. The sitting area could be improved with better more comfortable furniture and perhaps laid out differently to make better use of space (the least spacious part) but loved the country kitchen/dining room; the shower room downstairs and the bathroom upstairs appear to be new and very comfortable, with modern quality fittings, all perfectly clean.
With 5' bed and a better sitting area this would have been 4 star plus.
Vicki is easy to deal with, very helpful and charming.
The whole feel is rural France, and the peacefulness is stunning, probably the most relaxing holiday I've ever had - and I am quite old! No TV but not really missed and in fact its absence went a long way towards the relaxation. Nice selection of books, games, etc, though a few thrillers added to the library would improve it for me. Enjoyed the slightly sycophantic book on Stephen Hawking. Plenty of equipment in the kitchen, etc.
Particularly enjoyed trips to Surgeres (where you'll find the nearest bigger supermarket) and Niort, and the canals go for miles beyond the picturesque touristy sections. Also liked La Rochelle, Royan and the islands. You can go miles across the wide-open fields without seeing anyone. Not a lot in Mauze-sur-le-Mignon, but there is a reasonable small to mid sized supermarket and a few cafes, which is only approx 4 to 5 miles from the house. Few English people to be found and little spoken, but people are by and large helpful and were tolerant of my rubbish remnant schoolboy French.
Overall it was a very memorable, super relaxing and enjoyable holiday, both the area and the property. And lovely owner.

Great place to stay
6 adults plus 2 babies just had a great time at Les Mojhettes during Easter. The weather was great, the family were really friendly and the house has everything you could need to make it a great, relaxing stay. The evenings were a little cold, but our advice is go to bed early and get up early to make the most of the day! Great bike rides/walks/runs to make you feel like you're doing your body some good, lovely canals to row a boat along (sans guide), and fantastic beaches (great surf at La Tranche-sur-mer - 1 hour away and good kite-surfing at Chateilillon-plage, 45 minutes away). La Rochelle is only 25-30 minutes drive and is great for day visits knowing that you can return to the peaceful setting of Cran-Chaban for a relaxing evening with a glass of wine on the patio. Definitely recommend it. If it had a log fire I would return every year! Great value for money. Well kitted out for children. Thank you Vicki, Jeremy and your three brilliant children for making our stay really great!
