We decided to get into the short-term rental business after seeing Mary’s father’s success in Folly Beach, South Carolina. It just made sense—Folly holds a special place in our hearts since we tied the knot right outside Charleston!
Back home in Florida, we had a “Florida room” filled with exercise equipment that never got used (we’re sure we’re not the only ones… 😂). That’s when the idea for The Pelican Pad was born. We opened in April 2019, and it took off right away—bookings started rolling in like crazy!
Just three months later, we launched The Flamingo Flat, and one month after that, I handed in my notice at work. HSJ Hospitality was officially off and running.
Today, we proudly manage five vacation rentals and co-host one more—each one designed with love, comfort, and a touch of coastal fun. We couldn’t ask for a better job, a better wife, or a better life!
