Spend your summer in a place that's fit for the history books... and featured in a few! Centrally located 10 minutes from downtown Huntsville, ON, this classic Muskoka cottage on the south side of Fairy Lake was built in the early 1930's and sleeps up to 10 people in 6 bedrooms.

It's an ideal family cottage situated at the end of a private lane on 3.25 acres with a dock and shallow waterfront. Enjoy many modern conveniences while basking in the rustic charm of this near-century old property!

Upon entering through an original antique front door, you’ll find an open concept living and dining room that spans the entire width of the cottage. The living room includes a sofa, individual chairs, a wood-burning stove, a variety of games, and a television (allowing for streaming services over Wi-Fi). A long wooden dining room table can accommodate up to 12 people for meals, and the screened-in porch can be accessed both from a “dutch door” in the dining room as well as the front porch entryway. On the other side of the dining room is a door to the expansive kitchen, which then leads out to the back deck and BBQ area. One of the six bedrooms (with a queen bed) is located on the main floor off the living room to the left of the staircase.

On the second floor, there are five bedrooms (from right to left: 1 double bed, 1 double bed, 1 single bed, 1 single bed, 1 double bed) as well as the bathroom. The bathroom features a new toilet, new vanity and sink, tub with shower, and cupboards for storage.

The property can accommodate parking for up to 4 vehicles in between the trees in the non-grassy area. Across from the parking and closer to the lake, you’ll find a stone firepit on the large lawn to enjoy summer evenings. Please abide by local fire rules and regulations during your stay as most times, daytime burning is prohibited. To the left of the cottage when looking out at the lake is a plateau where outdoor lawn games can be played. Above the plateau and behind the back deck with BBQ is a clothes line for drying any hand washing (there are also two main laundromats in town), and up the path from the clothes line is an outhouse to supplement the indoor bathroom.

Located at the end of a quiet bay, the water is quite shallow around our private dock, about knee-to-waist high on an average adult during the summer season. The lake bottom is mostly sandy. Please note, access to the pictured boathouse is not included in the rental, however, Muskoka chairs as well as storage bins with water toys and life jackets are provided for use.

Fairy Lake is one of four major lakes in the Huntsville area. It is connected to Lakes Vernon and Peninsula via canal systems, and Mary Lake through a canal system with locks. Renters may dock up to one motorized watercraft at the dock during their rental period at their discretion. Boat launches are available on Brunel Road or at the marina across the lake on Highway 60.

Guests are required to bring their own bedding, linens, and towels – these items are not provided. Between renters, the cottage is thoroughly cleaned and all hand/dish towels are washed. The cottage driveway is monitored 24/7 for the protection of our property and guests.

Incredible stay!
What a week! We had the best stay at Methven cottage. A big group of us said goodbye to summer there and it was everything we dreamed of. Sarah and Matt are super friendly and communicative and the cottage is a Canadian summer dream! Can’t recommend enough! We’ll probably be back next year!

Wonderful spot for the whole family!
We came to Methven as a family to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. It was the perfect spot. We felt like we were brought back in time in the cozy, cottagey vibe and everyone enjoyed themselves. The property is lovely, the swimming is perfect for people of all ages, the lake is serene and the cottage is set up perfectly. We loved the fireplace, and the outdoor screened in area. We played board games and cards at the big harvest table, and slept so well with the windows open to the fresh air! The proximity to Huntsville made it easy to get provisions, and go out for meal. The hosts were so responsive and helpful. We are so happy we visited.

Cottage in its natural environment
Cottaging in the area as a child made it important to me to be in a natural area unspoiled by the major developments in the Huntsville area-cottage was not only spacious enough for our children and grandchildren but also charming -featuring all the amenities we needed -great BBQ area and waterfront and hosts were always available to chat and we had all the cottage info in a binder as well -enjoyed puzzles games and meals around a large table that could accommodate us all -beautiful century cottage

May the Force Be With You...
Locating this cottage in a galaxy not too far away. There is nothing more Canadian than staying at the Methven Cottage, a place that boasts a storied history on Fairy Lake. If you prefer geometric boxes with straight lines, nouveau furniture and modern décor this venue is not for you. However, if you're into familied history, tradition, rustic pine, creaking floors and secret doors, French windows, country porches, nooks and crannies, crackling fires, attention to deal and ultimate privacy - welcome to the Methven Cottage! And let's not forget about "the Jinx"!!! I can't say enough about my experience, and from the minute I arrived I began planning my warp speed return. There was also a nice surprise upon arrival. The location on the lake is spectacular, without any rocks or weeds and a very easy entry into the water. More than enough room to park a larger vessel too. The owners are great communicators, and have been a pleasure to deal with - no nonsense. Huntsville has everything you need, and only a short 10 minute drive away. The marine is fantastic as well if you plan on renting, and the cottage is directly across the lake. Cheers, D'O'
