The Haliburton Highlands are one of the delights of Ontario's cottage regions. Rolling hills and deep lakes combine with the boreal forest to create a playground like none other in the world. Just south of Gooderham and Tory Hill, on the Highlands' doorstep, is where you will find Trooper Lake, and Blue Haven cottage.
The cottage is comfy and fans of Dr. Who may be forgiven for saying "It's bigger on the inside". Stepping into the main level, you'll find the kitchen, living and dining areas, as well as the main bathroom, with a walkout to a spacious deck with a fabulous lake view. The lower level will likely be claimed by the youth in the group as it features sleeping for 3, the family room with TV, and a foosball table. The couch is a pullout in case someone wants to fall asleep after a movie. There are also laundry machines and a 3-piece bathroom on this level. Step outside and you'll find the hot tub, wonderful at any time of year but particularly in the colder months!
Outside, you'll find a few different ways to enjoy the surroundings. This IS a cottage, so no doubt you'll want to head for the dock - followed by splashing of some sort, whether it's a relaxing swim or the more subdued splashing of a paddle as you set out to explore the lake by kayak. If you'd like something more relaxing, that indoor but outdoor feeling, there is a lovely screened gazebo at the waterfront. This is a wonderful 3-season space in which to enjoy a coffee, a game, a book or....wait, why are we telling you this...you'll discover your own favorite use. Keep your eyes open and camera at the ready for wildlife and don't be at all surprised if a deer or two wander up to say hello.
A little further from the water you'll find a cute-as-a-button bunkie, with sleeping for a couple and a tiny kitchenette - a perfect hideaway for someone in your group.
If your stay is a winter one, the wood stove will keep you warm and cosy following a day of cross-country skiing, skating or snowmobiling - or just taking in some magnificent winter scenery.
This cottage will appeal to those who want the get-away-from-it-all feeling. For the necessities, nearby Gooderham has groceries, an LCBO and a couple of diners. The real star of a day out is the terrain - kilometre after kilometre of photo opportunities at any time of year - and at the end of the day, when the loons call and evening is nigh, you'll hurry back to your Blue Haven.

Trivia The local hamlet of Gooderham is located on a now defunct railway line, the Irondale, Bancroft and Ottawa (IB&O) Railway, part of which has since been converted into a trail network. It is situated at the intersection of Monck Road (CR503) from the East and Buckhorn Road (CR507) from the South. The origin of the name Gooderham is not known for sure, although it is likely that it was named after a member of the distillery-owning Gooderham family donated money for a local church. In any case, it was called Gooderham by the time the first post office was established in 1873. The first mills were built by 1875 using the waterfall between Gooderham Lake (now Pine Lake) and the Irondale River. Logging and farming were the original attractions of the Gooderham area and Gooderham still has an active lumber mill. Source: Wikipedia
