The cottage was perfectly equipped, and had everything we needed. There were even some surprises, like a big Yeti cooler that we could take to the beach, and better than average cooking tools. We found the cottage to be a perfectly comfortable home base, with absolutely stunning, unbeatable views. Peter and Pam were so nice and helpful, even helping lead us to a grocery store upon our arrival to get provisions. It was an excellent experience, and we’d go back again just for the rustic simplicity of the island and its views, coupled with the comforts of that cottage.

The coolers are new! The zippers on the ones we had for the guests before we getting corroded very quickly, and were already seized after about a year. We're hoping that spending a little more money on the new coolers means that they'll last longer, we'll see.
Arriving on a Sunday can make stopping for groceries a little harder. We were at the airport at the same time, happy to help show you an open store!
We came back and stayed at the Whistling Duck. It is such a wonderful cottage directly on the water. It is comfortable and spotlessly clean. Peter was easy to work with and the host, Violet, is kind and wonderful. We can’t wait to come back.
What a perfect place to unplug and truly relax. Great hosts, phenomenal location and a natural swimming pool of an ocean steps from the door. Truly a great spot.
The house and location was lovely, comfortable and exceeded our expectations. The house had everything we needed to relax and enjoy the quiet beach front and palapa. Great location! The hosts Peter and Pam were friendly and provided some great local knowledge to enhance our visit to Long Island.
The property is stunning, it even exceeded our expectations! The cottage has everything you need and the beautiful water right at your feet. The hosts Peter and Pam were welcoming and made our trip perfect.
Whistling Duck was great, loved the views and kayaking out front. Great communication with Peter and helpful tips for our trip. Long Island is a gem, beautiful spots and kind locals. Hope to visit again!
We wrestled with leaving this review as we definitely plan to return and don't want to have to jockey for reservations! BUT, the hosts are wonderful and highly communicative, and Violet is an absolute gem! We stayed here 2 weeks after hostoric Hurricane Melissa passed through. Our trip did not go as planned, thanks to a gale force warning that was in place all week, as well as unexpected issues not related ot the cottage but the cottage itself was phenomenal and a welcome home base as we navigated our way through the week. Our flight off the island was cancelled, with no available flights until the next day, and Violet graciously allowed us to stay another night, otherwise we would've been sleeping on the floor at the airport! We are eager to return and experience Long Island when there isn't weather and supply issues & will absolutely be staying at Whistling Duck when we do!

Too many good reviews on VRBO have already made it a little bit hard to book (particularly during the Jan-Mar timeframe, particularly at the last minute). Usually booking during hurricane season there is room for people who are willing to risk the potentially really bad weather. This can be a great time, because the weather in Jun-Nov can be wonderful when there are no tropical storms. But is it low tourist season, so many businesses have reduced operations. It depends what you're looking for. Long Island is normally pretty quiet with mostly empty beaches, but during low season it may be too quiet for some people.
Sorry you had to see the gale force winds, but glad you still enjoyed the island enough to come back some time.
Quiet, private, and perfect! Peter communicated to us tidbits about the island and weather that helped us in our planning. We would be glad to go there again and again!
My wife and I had an incredible time on long island and Duck Whistle was comfortable, clean with beautiful views. We enjoyed our time relaxing, walking the beaches, having fresh fish, swimming and exploring. We would love to return in the near futures. Ken/Margo
We had an absolutely amazing time at this cozy cottage on the water. The locals were friendly and accomodating; my wife has celiac and we had to explain what gluten was and how to avoid cross contamination, and they worked really hard to make sure her dishes were safe. The location of the cottage is absolutely amazing with beautiful water and reefs just a short kayak trip across the way. We just loved it.
Our week long stay at Whistling Duck was nothing short of AMAZING! Pam was such a gracious host. She was full of helpful information. We spent the week exploring the island, going to some of the places she suggested. Took an afternoon kayak trip to the cay across the bay. Beautiful. The house has everything you need for a stay. Already planning our trip back to stay here! This is a beautiful cottage in a prime location on the island.

Thanks for the excellent review. It was wonderful hosting you. Safe travels. Looking forward to seeing you again sometime. Best wishes, Pam
We had a wonderful stay at Peter and Pam’s cottage. Everything was as described. They were both here to welcome us and provided with a lot of useful information. Sleeping with the sound of the waves and crickets. We did not want to leave. Definitely recommend this little cottage on the sea!
Quiet, secluded, and beautiful. All the comforts of home in a very special setting. Not only were Peter(owner) and Violet(manager) great communicators, they were gracious and accommodating in every way.Swimming , snorkeling, kayaking or just relaxing on the front porch with a cup of coffee, this place had it all.I can't wait to return to this incredible island and the little cottage across the Cay!
We exceeded any expectation we could have ever dreamed of having on our recent vacation to Long Island!!
The Whistling Duck is an amazing location, Pam & Peter were so knowable about the island and pointed our adventures in every direction we didn’t even know we were able to take!
If we ever make it back, we will staying for a couple weeks all at the Whistling Duck!
Thank you Pam & Peter for your hospitality and foresight!

1-bedroom cottage on the Atlantic coast with a soft sand private beach & crystal clear blue water. Beautiful property. Our host Violet was great - she picked us up, gave us a brief tour of the area, provided recommendations for restaurants, beaches & shops & was a terrific resource. Wifi worked perfectly, no glitches. Porches are great, although screens would help when mosquitos are around.

Thanks for the review!
Normally the onshore breeze keep the bugs away, but when the wind dies or comes from an unusual direction they can get bad, particularly near dusk. We usually just head inside when that happens. We're hoping to leave the porches open to the air, but feedback like this is valuable, and we may re-think screens if that seems to be the consensus.
This house is adorable first off. In perfect condition, extremely clean. The location….you CANNOT explain how beautiful it is here. The beach basically out the front door, the breeze, the view. If you want a place to relax and enjoy a beautiful island with no crowds, this is the island. The hosts Peter and Pam are more than helpful, we did not have a question unanswered. We appreciated them.
The house and furnishings were excellent and comfortable in every way. I wouldn't change a thing. But what I most enjoyed was the environment and location. From the two decks the views all day and all night were spectacular and engaging with the changing weather, light, colors, stars and wave action. The property is next to a less famous but more beautiful "blue hole" with coral and fish for snorkeling. We had to leave too soon.
We just finished a 10 day stay at this charming cottage near Lochabar beach. From start to finish our stay was seamless. Peter the property owner and Violet the property manager were wonderful We had done research on the island before we arrived, but they were a wealth of knowledge. The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was very comfortably and the view was spectacular. From stargazing on the back deck to sitting on the front porch, feeling the ocean breezes we did not want to leave. This is a great location to visit different beaches, restaurants and sites on the island. We look forward to visiting this beautiful cottage again.

Thanks for the review! Glad to hear that you enjoyed the place as much as we do!
Peter & Pam
We booked this without knowing much and I'm so glad we did. Violet made our arrival welcoming and lovely. From the comfortable bed to the outside shower, everything was perfect for us. We snorkeled and Kayaked every morning. The sunrises were amazing. The only thing was no TV so bring DVD's or hook up your Hulu... It wasn't necessary though, since we had full days. Please go see Cathy and Francis at Under the Sun. We rented a boat and got some great lattes and lunches there. We will be back.
Whistling Duck was an absolute tropical treasure. The beauty and sounds of the aqua-teal waters and breezes met us everyday and lulled us to sleep each night. Peter was so helpful and accommodating with transportation issues and overall guidance. When we had a huge storm and lost power, Violet the property manager was available to assist and even checked up on us the next day. The house is clean, cozy, quiet, and has everything you need with a porch and deck perfect for relaxing and stargazing. Beach at our doorstep and short walk to the Lochabar Bay nearby. The island was easy to get around and we enjoyed the food and people. This was a very special vacation we won't forget.
