Sink into the snug king-sized bed, draped in luxe linens, with the bedroom offering a cocoon of calm. The ensuite invites relaxation, featuring an extra large shower with a waterfall head, waffle weave bathrobes, and goat milk soap—complemented by slippers for you to take home.

Whether you’re planning a romantic dinner on the 30m² deck or a cosy movie night with smart TVs in both the bedroom and living room (Stan, Netflix, YouTube, Free to Air TV), you’ll feel at home. For outdoor enthusiasts, your private festoon-lit area is perfect for evening games, picnics with our provided essentials, or capturing memories at the photo wall.

A curated guest book, available online and in print, highlights local itineraries, eateries, and hidden gems to make your getaway truly memorable. With thoughtful touches like a picnic basket, rain jackets, and board games, we’ve got you covered for every weather.

The perfect country getaway

My girlfriend and I had the most amazing stay at this beautiful property! The cabin was stunning- not only was it immaculately clean and organised, it had a lovely cozy and relaxed feel to it- ideal for a country escape. The cabin also provided picturesque views, the mountains were so mesmerising- we did not want to leave!! The location is also perfect too- just a short drive to some awesome towns like Maffra and Heyfield, we loved exploring them. Would especially recommend making the trip to Walhalla, a beautiful old country town with heaps to do (we rode on the railway- an awesome ride that takes you through the mountains, the views were incredible). Not to mention Mel was the most amazing and loveliest host you could ask for, she truly went above and beyond to make our stay so memorable. In summary, this cabin is the PERFECT country escape!!! We were so sad to leave, and will most definitely be back soon. Thank you Mel for having us, we appreciate everything you did to make our stay so enjoyable!

A Magical Escape with Unforgettable Hospitality

Dear Mel, Our four-day escape to Gumnut Cottage was enchanting, thanks to your exceptional hospitality. From booking to departure, your superb communication made us feel welcome even before we arrived. The surprise photo shoot and the beautiful bouquet you arranged for our anniversary added a romantic touch to the cozy cottage. Gumnut Cottage, nestled among mountains, exceeded our expectations—clean, well-stocked, with charming company from sheep and chickens, especially Bob. The guest book detailed local gems, enhancing our exploration. As first-time tiny home occupants, Gumnut Cottage was perfect. Undoubtedly the best host and location we've experienced—outstanding amenities and thoughtful recommendations for attractions like Blue Gables Vineyard and Glenmaggie Weir Reserve (yes, we visited these :) ). It was great to meet you and your husband Tony in person. The amenities provided were outstanding, and your thoughtful recommendations for nearby attractions, like Blue Gables Vineyard and Glenmaggie Weir Reserve, enriched our experience. The cozy ambiance of the cottage and the presence of Bob and friends (sheeps) and chickens made our stay uniquely delightful. The couple pictures you took on our last day captured the essence of our special celebration, creating lasting memories. We're excited to see the pictures you captured, Mel. Thank you for turning our anniversary into a cherished memory. Can't wait to return to Gumnut Cottage. Warm regards, Meenu and Anoop

We stayed at Gumnut cottage just after the Gippsland floods, our host Mel kept us up to date and informed on any road closures. The property has amazing views and is well stocked with anything you might need to enhance your stay. We will definitely be back.

Host profile image
Hi! I'm Mel - A passionate host and tiny homesteader. I'm currently studying horticulture to learn how to best regenerate our little patch of paradise. I love working on our farm and being out and about with the animals and in our free range food forest area. Its such fun to share our property with guests (particularly the views!). We strive to provide magical, unique and highly memorable experiences for our guests that we hope last a lifetime!

Why they chose this property

Our area is very relaxing, yet there is so much to immerse yourself in if you want to get out and explore. I love our local pub (The Railway Hotel) and our friendly nearby town, Heyfield.

What makes this property unique

We have created a Tiny Homestead with a view to becoming almost fully self-sufficient in coming years. We have planted many perennial edible plants; over 80 fruit trees including edible hedges comprising blueberries and fejoas. We love to share our learnings with our guests if they would like to learn more about what we are doing and why. We are exploring permaculture and continuously learning as we go - always implementing new ideas and projects.
