Ideally located for exploring Western Crete, Yiannis Cottage is a traditional holiday home situated in the small village of Spilia, just above the beautiful Myrtidiotissa Church, known for its magnificent painted interior.

The cottage has retained its traditional character, with a warm and simple interior and a small collection of works by local artists. The combination of the traditional house, the extensive Mediterranean garden and the surrounding countryside gives the property a strong sense of place.

One of the main features of Yiannis Cottage is its large private Mediterranean garden. Planting surrounds the house, with flowers, herbs, shrubs and trees creating different spaces to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The garden was designed using plants that are well suited to the local Mediterranean climate, together with materials that reflect the character of the area.

The courtyard and the path leading to the cottage are made from local stone, giving the outdoor spaces a natural connection to the surrounding landscape and the traditional architecture of the village.

At the heart of the garden is your own private heated salt-water swimming pool. The pool can be enjoyed during the cooler months of the season, particularly in spring and autumn. The salt-water system provides a pleasant swimming experience while reducing the need for conventional chlorine treatment.

Comfortable wooden sun loungers and a relaxing outdoor nest are provided around the pool, creating simple spaces to enjoy the garden, read a book or spend a quiet afternoon outdoors.

Nature is also part of everyday life at the cottage. There is a small henhouse just a few metres away, where fresh eggs are available, as well as a lemon tree at the property. During the season, we are also happy to share fresh fruit and vegetables from our own garden, just next to the cottage.

A welcome pack awaits you on arrival, with a selection of traditional local products. For leisurely breakfasts on your terrace overlooking the pool and garden, a breakfast pack is also provided, including bread, natural juices, fresh eggs, bacon, tomatoes, honey, butter and olive oil from the olive trees near the cottage.

We have made changes and improvements to the cottage and its outdoor spaces over the years, always trying to make the stay more comfortable while keeping the traditional character of the property.

Yiannis Cottage is officially registered with the Greek Tourism Organisation (EOT) and holds the Special Sign of the Greek Tourism Organisation (EOT-1354121504).

The cottage is a convenient base for discovering Western Crete, with beaches, villages, local tavernas and places of interest within easy reach.
