About this property

The Snowy Mtns Most Iconic Homestead

1864 Stone Homestead on 55 acres built by station owner Mr James Thompson. A certain A.B. (Banjo) Paterson is known to be a friend and guest of the original owner.

The homestead is cosy and warm and has undergone a beautiful and sympathetic restoration.

30 minutes to Thredbo and Perisher.
5 minutes to Jindabyne.

Luxurious linens in Hale Mercantile and Cultiver.
High quality Hunter bath products.
Well stocked kitchen.
The space
The Homestead has a large yet cozy lounge room with original and updated features warmed by a wood heater.

The kitchen with new, large gas stove/oven and benches has a family sized table for meals, games and stories about the days skiing or other adventures. Warmed by an efficient Lopi wood heater, this well-appointed country kitchen is the heart of the Homestead.

The large master bedroom and is warmed by an efficient Nobo heater. Snuggle up in the king sized bed with beautifully soft Hale Mercantile and Cultiver linen sheets, or relax in the cosy armchair with a good book by the window warmed with morning sun.

The second bedroom has a bunk and two single beds with a large and small dresser to put away clothes so it feels more like home. With lovely Cultiver linen sheets and good sized beds this room is suitable for adults or children.

In the centre of the house is a room that in the 1800s and early 1900s served as the pantry to hold the family's essential supplies. It is from here you access the bathroom with shower over bath, sink and soft towels and connect through to the laundry/drying room with washing machine and dryer. Added in 1961 almost 100 years after the Homestead was built, and updated since, we hope you enjoy these 'modern' amenities while remembering that we rely solely on rainfall and tank water for our showers. We appreciate you using water wisely.

Old Cobbin Homestead is supplied with Hunter bath and body products

We love to cook and entertain and have spent much time equipping our kitchen well. Aside from the gas stovetop and oven, you are welcome to try slow cooking your meals on the wood heater using the cast-iron cookware on the cooking stones provided... though please keep the pots off the fireplace when not in use and perhaps don't leave your cooking unattended. :)

We believe in drinking good wine and whisky with great friends from beautiful glassware and trust you will enjoy this too.

We stock a basic pantry, which includes:
- Ground Coffee Beans from Em Mac
- BlackTea and Chai from Made
- Hot Chocolate & Marshmallows from Grounded Pleasure
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Salt & Pepper.

We recommend you pop into Woolworths or the grocer in Jindabyne for your supplies and milk if you take it. Jindabyne is 6km down the road and has many restaurants, pubs and take-away options. It is worth noting that we sadly, do not have a microwave at Old Cobbin Homestead.

Old Cobbin Homestead is an 1864 stone cottage with walls several feet thick and wood fires in the kitchen and lounge to provide warmth and a cozy atmosphere with additional electric heating if you feel the need.

You will arrive to find a fire already set for your first night and supplies for subsequent nights: a lighter, kindling and wood.

It gets cold in the valley in the deep of winter. We have provided extra blankets throughout the homestead, though please be sure to pack enough warm clothing if you are planning to stay through the cooler months.
Guest access
You will have access to all of Old Cobbin Homestead including its 'home paddock' with the exception of locked storage rooms and the upstairs attic.

You are welcome to explore the 55 acre property. We only ask that you shut gates, do not touch farm equipment or enter the shearing shed, and exercise caution at all times, especially around animals, barbed wire fences and on uneven ground.
Other things to note
Please note, Old Cobbin Homestead is not suitable for pets due to the delicate nature of its furnishings and the possible disturbance to livestock on the farm.

The step-in shower over the bath means this listing might not suit those who have mobility issues.

It is essential for our guests to have travel insurance. It is possible - though rare - during the winter months that roads closed temporarily due to snow or ice can disrupt travel plans. As this is a travel issue outs our control rather than an issue with our listing, we don't issue refunds or extend stays due to usually being fully booked and recommend you contact your insurer to assist with any costs associated with disrupted travel arrangements.
