Mom

I stayed at this apartment while my mom was hospitalized and eventually passed away. It meant a lot to me to have a home away from home during such a stressful time. It’s location is conveniently close to the hospital. When I had to extend my time, the owner was extremely helpful in doing that for me.

Charming Suite in Century Home

They sure don’t build them like they used to. This unit consists of four rooms carved out of a glorious home from the 1800s. It’s amazing that it has survived into this century. The principal rooms are exactly as pictured. They are large with 12 foot ceilings. The property is located on a street that is lined with homes from the same era. It is on an outcropping of land that is bordered on both sides by the Saint John River. It is a 5 minute drive from the sights of Uptown Saint John. We found our stay to be quiet even with the street facing windows open most of the time.

Architectural and Historical Appreciation

The property is very clean and the decor is perfect. We loved all of the woodwork/ceiling/2 fireplace details. It felt like we were discovering something new each day. A favorite are the gorgeous stained glass windows which when the light hits them is glorious! We had all of the conveniences of home, which we appreciated. The bed is very comfortable, much like our Tempurpedic from home. Our dogs came with us and enjoyed the quietness, comfort and the sunshine. We took a walk one day and it was great seeing so many historical properties in the neighborhood. The owner was very attentive and helpful from booking to departure. We would recommend this location to anyone that can handle stairs, as it is on the second floor, outdoor stairs. It was beautiful and had everything we needed.❤️

Not as advertised.

The images and text describing this property do not accurately reflect its appearance or the neighborhood. The house is located in a rundown part of the old historic district. Access to the apartment is an exterior wooden staircase on the back of the home. See attached photographs. Pictures of the property give the impression that the home is fully renovated and remodeled. It is not. We had problems with the plumbing (bath sink and tub did not drain) and with WiFi & TV. Home did not meet our standard for cleanliness. The home was free of personal belongings and appliances were clean…but walls, windows, woodwork and corners, plus vinyl flooring need a good scrub. Not what we expected from pictures. Pictures are typical for this neighborhood. Tan building is stair access. Front of house does not look like photo provided in ad. It omits the general condition of the yard, entry and siding. Cosmetic updates have been done. Interior photos appear to be enhanced or do not show images of the entire space. Painted old wallpaper, missing trim, dirty windows and radiators. No air conditioning. We propped a window open with a coffee can for circulation. I depend on review to make my choices. This property is perfect for a crash pad…or someone with pets who doesn’t want to worry about their animals. But not for a special evening in St John. It’s a 2 Star. We left after one night. Without compensation from the management. Over priced for what you get.

Horrible experience

We had a horrible experience with the owner and manager. She didn't send me the code to get in the rental. The listing was advertised with a hot tub and gym. We arrived and no hot tub or gym. It was very important for me to have the hot tub due to health issues. They did not reimburse any of the money. She only send me the check out procedure the same morning. She kept the100$ she said she would give me toward a next stay. I had towel on the floor and dishes in the sink. I didn't know the check out procedure. I had to contact the Better Business Bureau.

Why they chose this property

I chose this neighborhood for its rich historical charm and architectural diversity—it’s like stepping back in time. Each building tells a story, showcasing a beautiful blend of styles from different eras, like grand Second Empire homes and the elegant simplicity of Gothic Revival structures. The mix of former working-class tenements and stately homes adds to the area’s unique character.

The neighborhood’s commitment to preservation also captivated me. Many homes here have been lovingly maintained over generations, keeping their original charm intact and offering a living glimpse into history. This continuity enriches the area’s aesthetic and gives a strong sense of community heritage.

With some buildings dating back to the mid-19th century, the historical significance here is incredible. Walking these streets is like a journey through time, where architectural beauty, cultural heritage, and a sense of community come together. This remarkable blend of history and charm made this neighborhood an easy choice.
