Some board games, cards and books are also supplied. There is no TV.
Being off-grid means we are not connected to the national power grid & means normal operation of lighting, phone chargers, laptops, tablets, water pump ,washing machine but no high power drawing items such as heater, dishwasher, clothes dryer, electric blankets, toaster (there is a camp one), kettle (there is a gas stove top billy). If you need short term use of a high drawing appliance such as a hair dryer (or other heated styler), iron etc please advise - we have an onsite generator to top up the power batteries & simply need to be aware to monitor the voltage more intently when such appliances are to be used.
Note: There is a Gravel road & driveway for approximately 1.2kms from State Highway 22 to your cabin.
WALKING (FREE) & FARM TOUR ($25 - half hr, $45-1hr - 1-2 pax)
Subject to availability & time. Brief health & safety induction required. Requests for safe ‘livestock free’ walks & farm tours (by 3 seater ATV vehicle) need to be pre arranged/made at the time of the cabin request.
Hot water bottles are supplied as they are the most energy efficient and effective heating (so cosy!). Please refer to safety user instructions in the house manual to prevent burns -productsafety dot govt dot nz-for-consumers-using-products-safely-hot-water-bottles-product-safety
This is an operational dry stock farm. Hazards, animals & farm vehicles and machinery will be about. Farm noises & smells.
Please be cautious and please do not feed the animals as this can make them a nuisance and/or naughty.
The fireplace is for winter use only (June, July, August) except upon request (firewood charge applies)
Duck shooting season is generally during May & can at times be noisy particularly on opening weekend. Google can tell you the dates - shooting starts at day break when there is no fog on the river.
Compulsory weekly cleaning & maintenance ($45) & additional heating fee in the winter (wood and fuel) apply for long stays-please enquire.
There is a second cabin if you need another bed.
HOUSE RULES
- Smoking is allowed, but only outside - there will be an ashtray provided so please do not flick butts onto the ground.
- This is an operational farm so Health and Safety Rules apply
- Sorry we can not accommodate pets due to there being other animals on the property and the cabin is not ring fenced.
- Do not feed the animals as this can make them become a nuisance and naughty. Beware: animals can bite and kick without warning especially if there is food around
- We are on Rain Tank water only, so please conserve water in summer
- Ensure gas oven/hob knobs are properly off, for your safety (instructions for use are in the house manual)
-The cabin is powered by solar panels and house batteries located at the main shed. Please do not use high power drawing items such as heaters. (Standard appliances are fine eg Laptops, phone chargers, bluetooth speakers). Please ask if you are unsure - no question is a silly question
-More people drown in rivers and lakes than in the ocean. Please be very cautious. I have life jackets if you would like to undertake any water recreation - please ask advice before entering the river.
-Please refrain from cooking with ingredients which may leave stubborn residues or odor that linger to disturb the next guests to use the cabin.
