Robyn was very helpful during our stay! Our accomodation was double booked, but she found another place for the other family to stay so everything worked out. The place itself was lovely and we enjoyed our time! Thank you

Lovely part of the world

Thank you for introducing us to beautiful Murrurundi. The house was comfortable and beautifully furnished with everything we needed. Plenty of heating to keep us snug. We loved that there were lots of options for walks, some with dogs. A note for fellow dog owners that the garden is not really fenced so you either need to keep your dog on a leash or have very good recall. Ours were more than happy to spend most of their time in with us. We all enjoyed sitting on the front veranda with a coffee in the sunshine looking out at the town and mountains.

Unfortunately, we were unable to stay at this property as it was double booked. Robyn was wonderful.. she went above and beyond to put us in contact with others in town who offered us suitable accommodation.

Home away from home! Warm and cosy character cottage with our every need anticipated. The kitchen was well stocked (with all the necessary appliances) and the bathroom immaculate. Having travelled in the heart of winter, we were pleasantly surprised by all the heating options which ensured we were toasty warm! We loved our stay and our super host! Dora P.

Great stay

Thanks so much Robyn for a great stay. Your house is beautiful, very well equipped and exactly what we were after. Murrurundi is a lovely place to visit. Thanks especially for arranging to have the heaters switched on before we arrived. That was a nice touch and the house was beautifully warm. Thanks

From restoring a 1910 cottage to sharing stories with locals at the sausage sizzle, here's what the joy of village life brings including community, friendship, and the magic of slowing down.

Everybody wants to live in a village, you know — even if they’re in the suburbs or the city. Deep down, we all crave connection. That sense of belonging where people wave when you drive past, know your name at the café, and check in when you’re not around.

That’s exactly what I found in Murrurundi, a picturesque pocket of the Upper Hunter, nestled beneath the Liverpool Range and straddling the Pages River. It’s the kind of town where time slows down, creativity thrives, and the simple act of sharing a smile still matters.

I came here to be near my dear friend Emilia.

Inspired by Emilia’s passion for restoration, I decided to take on my own project — Murrurundi cottage which I’ve now restored from top to bottom. Guests fall in love with the mountain views, the warmth of the locals, and the creative pulse of Murrurundi itself.

Visitors are charmed by the Michael Reid Gallery, which has put Murrurundi firmly on the map as a vibrant hub for contemporary art. Local artists include Brazilian born Eduardo Santos.

Visitors wander through Ray’s Antiques on Hayden Street, discover treasures at Bec's antique shop and a chat at Mayne Street Café.

The renovations took longer than expected (don’t they always?), but I didn't have to look far for help.

The locals followed my progress from start to finish, offering advice, lending tools, and sharing stories over cups of tea. That’s the beauty of country life — it’s not about how fast you go, but how connected you are along the way.

My friend Emilia puts it perfectly.

“I love village life,” she told me. “There’s a real sense of welcome here.”

“There’s space here — space to breathe, to think, and to share.”

Murrurundi is a town with an artistic soul and a big heart.

Why they chose this property

Nestled at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, Murrurundi is a historic and picturesque town in the Upper Hunter Valley. Surrounded by thoroughbred horse studs, vineyards, and sweeping mountain views, it’s a place where the past and present blend seamlessly — from colonial-era buildings and antique shops to a lively local arts scene.

Art lovers will enjoy the Michael Reid Gallery, a vibrant space showcasing contemporary Australian artists with new exhibitions every month. The celebrated Brazilian artist Eduardo Santos has a studio on Mayne Street and is the resident artist.

The town also boasts charming cafes, pubs, and friendly locals, making it perfect for those seeking both relaxation and connection.

While trains pass through regularly, they can be heard but our guests say they didn't bother them but I do need to tell people about them. I also remind people that travelling by train is a great way to arrive. Murrurundi offers a truly restful, nature-filled escape, and my hope is that guests feel it as a home away from home, just as I do.

What makes this property unique

Murrurundi cottage is freshly decorated and having grown up on a horse stud, I have a lot of horse memorabilia and large oil paintings. I have also bought antiques such as a huge antique Venetian mirror which hangs above the fireplace. The kitchen and bathroom are totally new with the latest fittings and it is clean and tidy and I like to think, stylishly decorated. The sofa is also new and comfy. The home is a very restful place. I have also started planting trees in the back garden which has a view onto the mountains, much like the front verandah. I love the way the light changes during the day. You can enjoy the most stunning sunsets.
