About the host

Elizabeth, Caleb and I have lived here in Fall Creek for twenty years. Our home has grown while our family did. Now with our daughters grown and on their own, it is just us three, my son Caleb , my wife Elizabeth and myself, Brian. I am a professional technician, business owner and we bought this lodge to earn extra income for retirement. We are music lovers, dancers, and nature loving people who are good stewards of our land. We have been active in our community, school, and our local farmers market. We are continually improving our home and our rental home in hope that we can offer a unique and satisfying experience to our guests so that our business will sustain us into our later years. I have a Bachelors Degree in business, and Elizabeth holds a Bachelors Degree in history, so we value education and use our skills with our business. Caleb is still in High School and hopes to become a writer.

Why they chose this property

In the Summer of 2015 the property and the five acre lot next to ours went up for sale. At first we were not interested in buying it, but after thinking about it and doing the math, it became clear that we could earn some sweat equity, help keep our property values high, and restore the land to the natural beauty that we love if we bought it ourselves. We purchased it in October 2015, did an extensive renovation over the next 6 months and opened it as a vacation rental in May 2016. We added a Totem, carved wood sculptures, and an old growth slab bar top, all made from wood that came down as a windfall. We have a Native Northwest theme and original native american artwork. Since them we have continued the renovation with the large 950 square foot building above the two car garage, added a three person hot tub, and we have plans for additional landscaping, a cedar sweat lodge, and a bird watching trail with birdhouses designed to attract specific species. We enjoy having the extra space or the peace and quiet when we want it, but also we enjoy meeting new people with different cultures. We are located close enough to attend to any of our guests needs, but out of view from the lodge, so our guests still have plenty of room and privacy.

What makes this property unique

The best think about our lodge is the location. We live in one of the most popular camping areas in Oregon. We have a seasonal lake, a beautiful creek, a National Forest, and the lodge acreage itself sustains wildlife and natural scenic beauty. At night, you can really see the stars. Every Spring, the same chorus of birds come back for the season, and in the Fall, the deer bed down next to the fruit trees, right behind the house. The upper balcony has a great view over the lawn area and the forested mountains. We offer fishing gear, sporting equipment, mushroom hunting tips and we do a great Cajun blackened fish fry. Our lower lodge level has a music room equipped with instruments, a vintage tube amp, bass amp, guitars, keyboards, and percussion instruments. I have many more at our house if needed for a good "full on fun" family jam session, or a just a folk song sing along around our fire-pit. The fire-pit is lined with lava rock that glow when it gets hot, and these rocks are also used during native american sweat ceremonies. We added the three person hot tub to help our guests and ourselves relax in the scenic setting.
