When in Ruidoso, you probably intend to spend most of your time outdoors among the mountains and lakes. Christi and Don’s Nuthouse is so welcoming and convivial. However, you might find yourself not wanting to leave its delights.

Let’s start with the great room—and what a great room it is! Encompassing the living area, a dining space, a kitchen, and a game area, this wide-open room boasts a vaulted ceiling, a gas fireplace, and plenty of large windows looking out onto Ponderosa pines and the mountains. Christi and Don’s Nuthouse sleeps ten people, and as many as three mature pets as well. But even if you have a full house, there’s plenty of room for everyone to kick back in the living area and watch TV or play charades. And wait until you stretch out on those leather sofas… so comfortable! More fun awaits in the game area, where you’ll find a pool table.

The dining table seats 8, and there’s room for four more at the breakfast bar. This bar is a handy place to set up your laptop and surf the web via the free WiFi. It’s also a convenient place to sit and help with the cooking (or to at least keep the cook company!). As for the kitchen of Christi and Don’s Nuthouse, it’s equipped with the full gamut of appliances, cookware, gadgets, and tableware. Whether you’re making breakfast omelets, a multicourse dinner, or late-night margaritas, you’ll find all the accouterments you’ll need.

If you prefer cooking and dining alfresco, head out to the covered deck. It’s furnished with a gas grill and a dining table with chairs, and the view of the mountains is spectacular. What’s more, the yard is fenced in, good news if you’re vacationing with your kids or dogs.

Three of the home’s five bedrooms are located on the main floor. The primary suite includes a king-size bed and a private bathroom. The 2nd bedroom features a queen-size bed, while the 3rd has a full-size bed. These bedrooms share the 2nd bathroom, which like the primary includes a combination shower/tub and loads of storage. The remaining two bedrooms are downstairs. Each of these spacious rooms includes a queen-size bed. These share the 3rd bathroom, with its own combo shower/tub. All five bedrooms have a TV.

When you arrive at Christi and Don’s Nuthouse the beds will already be made up, plenty of clean towels will be in the bathrooms, and extra bedding will be ready and waiting. What’s more, the house has a washer and dryer, and the 2-car garage and the circular drive ensure that there’s plenty of parking for all your guests.
Then again, if you’re visiting in winter, the snow is probably why. Ski Apache is just over a half-hour drive from Christi and Don’s Nuthouse. Only 10 minutes away is Ruidoso Winter Park, where you can snow tub in winter and soar on a zip line year-round. In warmer weather, you can drive to Alto Lake and Recreation Area in less than 10 minutes; once there you can fish in the stocked lake and explore the surrounding trails on foot, mountain bike, or horseback. And in less than 20 minutes you can drive to the art galleries and shops of Sudderth Drive, the Hubbard Museum of the American West, Billy the Kid Casino, and more.
