ShoreBreak cottage rises 25’ above the ocean on a dramatic cliff above perhaps one of the most beautiful beaches on Eleuthera known to locals as "Secret Beach". ShoreBreak cottage and Secret Beach are located on the Atlantic coastline of Eleuthera, 25 minutes from N. Eleuthera Airport (ELH) The quaint and authentically Bahamian Gregory Town is 2 miles to the North. All of the photos on this listing have been taken at ShoreBreak cottage and the “secret beach” below. Secret beach can only be accessed by Shorebreak and our new smaller neighboring property ShoreTing. Both houses can be rented together or independently. We don’t block access to secret beach. Life at ShoreBreak cottage is like taking a step back in time. You can plan a busy day of activities and experience the thrill of diving, snorkeling, fishing, surfing, and kayaking. Or for nature lovers, bring your Audubon nature guide book, take a walk and search for numerous varieties of butterflies and birds. Or better yet, you can choose to do nothing at all. Kick back, relax, and read a book and doze off in the afternoon with the symphony of the Atlantic lapping on the crystalline beach below. ShoreBreak cottage was created to be harmonious and respectful to its natural, untouched and exquisite surroundings. The vision for ShoreBreak was to embrace nature at its fullest and to escape the trappings of the modern world. No Television, no computer, no problem. (WiFi is available and cell phone and internet service access via international roaming).Nightly entertainment is courtesy of the Galaxy above. At ShoreBreak you enjoy quiet nights and fall asleep to the chorus of the ocean below only to dream of catching the Sunrise in the morning. Kiss the sky, smell the salt, and soak up the warmth of the sun on ShoreBreak’s oceanfront porch and deck. Just below our deck, walk down a short flight of a dozen stairs to find large boulders and unexplored caves. Direct access to this beach is limited to ShoreBreak cottage and our sister property “ShoreTing” and both properties can be rented together if available. The beach takes a shape and life of its own and consistently shifts, expands and retracts with the tide, wind and lunar cycles. We have seen the beach literally come and go for days at a time. This is the ocean and it always changes. It can be rough at times and no lifeguard on duty so one must exercise caution. And don’t forget to enjoy our outdoor shower if just for a quick rinse after coming up from the beach. ShoreBreak was built in a traditional and cozy Bahamanian style by a 3rd generation local builder who took great pride in his craft. The vernacular based outpost takes its design cues from the older gabled wood cottages on Harbour Island. White washed locally sourced cypress wraps the interior and creates a warm feel. The build was overseen by an internationally renown architect to ensure aesthetic integrity was true to form. A central living space is bookended by 2 ocean front bedrooms each with a queen bed. Both bedrooms have their own private en suite bathroom. A soaring vaulted ceiling with 2 lofts. PLEASE NOTE - the lofts are used for storage and not part of the rental, only the down stairs 2 bedrooms. ShoreBreak is ideal for 2 couples or just a honeymoon for 2. The cottage is a bit reminiscent of a wooden ship and was built in the spirit of the sea, adventure, exploration and the frontier. It boasts beautiful re-purposed mahogany yacht doors and brass hardware in the bedrooms as well as portholes salvaged from a pre war passenger liner. All of the sliding doors facing the ocean were sourced from a resort in the FL Keys that no longer stands. Secret Beach is a treasure and ShoreBreak was built to be sensitive and have as minimal an impact on its natural surroundings as possible. It has the ability to alternate between both grid and solar power making it fully self sustainable. The cottage was designed to take advantage of the cooling ocean breezes, but also offers modern comforts such as AC which is in the bedrooms. We ask our guests to always be mindful of their energy consumption and water usage and to leave as minimal a footprint as possible. ShoreBreak is provisioned with your basic needs, bed sheets, towels, utensils, cooking amenities, a built in gas cooktop, full sized refrigerator, and a dining table. Or use the Weber grill and grill up some fresh lobster tails from your dive and dine al fresco on the ocean deck under the stars. Or have a local fisherman bring you the days catch. You are sure to become friendly with the beautiful and simple people that call the island home. ShoreBreak is the essence of the authentic Bahamian out island experience. This is not a resort experience. No umbrella drinks. Its a bit of living on the edge of the rugged, natural and beautiful terrain. The ocean below can be tumultuous, so use extreme caution. Thus the namesake ShoreBreak. With this said, children are not recommended unless always supervised and all guests are reminded to exercise extreme caution on the property and beach below. ShoreBreak seeks adventure travelers, star gazers, beach combers and romantics at heart. Enjoy!

Awesome stay at Shorebreak cottage. You cant beat the views and the vibe. Total relaxation in a rustic yet comfortable cottage with all the amenities. We werent able to swim or hang on the beach due to the waves but still enjoyed hanging at the cottage vs driving to other beaches in the area but there are many options. Mark was a great host and provided a treasure trove of recommendations.
We had a truly magical week at Mark's home. Mark was responsive and helpful in planning our trip, making excellent recommendation and connections on the island. His property manager was also very responsive throughout our stay. You will not find a better view and peaceful vibe anywhere on the island. Thank you, Mark!
Great location and wonderful views. The cottage had everything we needed. Communication was easy, people on the island were friendly and helpful. It was a perfect trip!
The host was great. Good communication. He even reached out to check if we needed to stay longer due to significant inclement weather on the east coast. The accommodations were exactly as described. Could have used toilet paper and coffee filters but we figured it out!
Shorebreak was everything we hoped for and more!Mark was an incredible host and provided a tremendous amount of information before our trip. From the check-in process to recommendations for restaurants, beaches, and local attractions, everything was thoughtfully covered and made our stay seamless. The house was even better than described. There are more beautiful beaches on the island than we could possibly visit during one trip, and most of them we either had completely to ourselves or shared with only a handful of people. We never turned on the air conditioning once during our stay. Instead, we opened the windows, turned on the fans, and enjoyed the constant ocean breeze while listening to the waves breaking below. The views from Shorebreak are absolutely spectacular. Most evenings were spent relaxing on the deck, watching the stars, and taking in the peaceful surroundings. It was the perfect place to unwind and disconnect. My only regret is missing a message from Mark while we were there letting us know he was on the island with his family. I would have loved the opportunity to meet him in person! We will definitely be back and look forward to exploring even more of the island, its beaches, and the great local restaurants. Thank you again, Mark, for sharing your amazing home with us!
The location and view were absolutely amazing. The house is on the Atlantic side so the beach waves can be intense which we knew going into it. The amenities were pretty bare (no paper towels, one roll of toilet paper, no extra trash bags, etc) So we did have to go to the store just to cover the basics. You have to haul your own trash out as well. Mark the host had fantastic communication and sent a PDF with a ton of information. We loved our stay overall
Beautiful eco-cottage on an ocean cliff setting in a secluded rugged oasis.Windows surround the home for ocean cross breezes. Bedroom air conditioner for nighttime sleeping if needed. The lovely deck surround was wonderful and the deck perch is perfect for viewing the coastline and nighttime star gazing.Rugged outdoor shower was a great treat to rinse sand from the beach. Surf was rough the week we were there but we were able to drive a short distance to other beaches and access both the Atlantic and Caribbean oceans.Mark’s Email of the Check In instructions and island information was “VERY” helpful. We loved the comprehensive details he provided which was so helpful for our first trip to Eleuthera. If you love a level up of from “glamping” in a jungle cliff side private stay that is unique and offers a serene unplugged retreat than we highly recommend Shore Break. Unique interior touches.Fresh fish can be purchased from local fisherman down at the Gregory Town bay by the stone church in late afternoon but you have to “catch” them and it is a surprise catch each day. Michael helped prepare grouper fish for easy cooking one night and it was delicious. We loved supporting the local businesses.Bring water beach/rock shoes for rocky area terrain, a pair of long pants, long sleeve shirt and higher socks is you happen to be prone to mosquitos. Rent a 4-wheel for island roads.Enjoyed Eleuthera Thanks Mark for being a great host.
So grateful to God for Eleuthera and this truly incredible time away for my husband and I. This cottage experience and the Views are spectacular. We awoke to gentle waves and a beautiful sunrise and Mr Coffee which actually made a great cup of coffee! We made omeletes and ate on the porch each morning. Hours of reading and relaxing. Hiking little hill outside our door and saw in the ocean and laid on our private beach with the softest sand. Star gazed for hours just talking at night. Incredible. Very clean only the windows needed cleaning when we arrived. I was going to clean but they had screen doors so the glass was open most the time and wasn’t too much of problem. One tip— read Mark’s notes thoroughly. And when you arrive at airport stop near the store by airport to stock up on food. The tiny markets near the house have very little . If you want specialty items (fine cheeses, meats, wine) go into Governors harbor to Bacchus Fine foods . There is farmers market nearby for island organic fruits & vegis). We loved the Cove for lunch/dinner. Beds very comfortable. One note, if you like a soft down sleeping pillow that gives —you’ll want to bring your own. And if you’re a woman bring hair conditioner (none). All in all this experience was unforgettable and Mark has a gift (this incredible experience) at creating a beautiful, unforgettable space for building lifelong memories. You’ll not regret it. Thank you Mark! You’re amazing.
Oh my gracious! ShoreBreak Cottage was phenomenal! If you are looking for a stunning location to disconnect and recharge this place is perfect! The description provided in the listing perfectly describes the place. We slept with windows open listening to the waves crash! The sunrise was amazing! We used the grill on the nights we ate at the house. ShoreBreak Cottage is the perfect location for anyone looking for an ecolodge to escape and have an adventure! Plus, the location is a short drive from town, gorgeous beaches, and more. You need a car and an adventurous spirit! I can’t wait to come back!

The view is spectacular and the waves were beautiful. The cottage was very cozy, has fans and AC (which we barely used) and hammock was a favourite with our kids. Very quick drive to Gregory Town to Unka Gene's restaurant and convenience stores. Loved it!
This is an amazing waterfront cottage with rustic charm and very clean, well appointed, and secluded. We had an awesome time staying here in the summer and enjoyed the views and relaxing vibe. We found that ordering take-out and dining on the deck gave us the best coastal view, esp. during sunset. The cottage is located off some back roads that are a bit bumpy/rocky/hilly but easily drivable (we had an SUV but didn't need 4 wheel drive). Highly recommend this cottage if you're looking for a secluded place on the water. Note that when we were there the "private beach" was mostly underwater and there isn't really a place to enter the water. We went to some amazing beaches nearby instead, which worked well for us.

The owner provided a really good list of things to do, expectations, and contacts. His referral for rental cars (Robert Thompson) and his wife were great resources for the island. They also own a local burger place in Gregory town that is super good.
Mark was meticulous in communicating both before and during our trip -- we were guided, supplied, and cared for generously.
Our perch over the Atlantic with only breezes for company
Amazing ocean views. Totally off the grid. Wonderful little place! House right next door now so not totally secluded. Would return again! Beautiful , beautiful!

Thanks for the nice comments and for being such wonderful guests! Come back soon.
We enjoyed five nights at the property & never lost excitement of the view when we walked out on the back porch. What a stunning view! Perfectly located so that we were able to explore multiple areas of the island. The host(s) suggestions for the stay were spot on - from car rental to places to eat. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your little slice of paradise.
Amazing spot and a beautiful home. Everything went perfectly, from checking in to leaving. The views are incredible and the place is beautifully secluded on the edge of cliffs overlooking the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. The surf spot is close by and I managed to get some great waves. We had an amazing experience and will definitely be back
Visited with partner and her parents. The road is rough, as with most roads off of the highway on Eleuthera. The house is beautifully minimal, but has the essentials that you need. The view from the house is breathtakingly beautiful, and the visceral experience down at the beach is humbling in the best way possible and in a way that I do not think can be re-created anywhere else.
We had a fantastic stay at shore break. The cleaning lady had not shown up before we got there, but the owner was very quick to make it right!
Short trip down a dirt road with an incredible view. The night sky is incredible as there is almost no cultural lights.
Shorebreak can take you back in time. The cottage perched above the breaking waves of the Atlantic is nothing short of breathtaking. From morning coffee to evening conversation, the back deck was a centerpiece for the house. Unfortunately, the ocean took the beach out to sea the week we were staying there, but we adventured to over 10 beaches from French Leave Beach and Surfers Beach all the way up to swim with pigs and turtles. The house has all the necessities that you could need for a weeks stay. Mark's recommendations for car rentals, beaches and restaurants were A. Eleuthera is a diamond and I happily left with a golden Bahamian tan.
Stayed for a week at Shorebreak with a family of four. Everything about the house, the location, and the proximity to surfers beach was fantastic. The view and falling asleep to the ocean every night is amazing. Not one issue with living off the grid and the kids were able to surf every day with a short walk to Surfers Beach. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quiet, simple vacation to reconnect with your family.
