Nestled in the hillside above Souda Bay, Villa Bougainvillea offers a spectacular panoramic ocean view, two private outdoor swimming pools (1 adult pool L7xW4xD1.2 m and 1 childrens paddling pool D45 cm) and private gated drive with ample parking. Sleeps 7 plus cot.

The villa is beautifully furnished and features 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living area and kitchen. Each bedroom and living area has french doors to balconies with mountain & sea views. Full air conditioning in all rooms.

The villa is fully equipped with everything you will need for a fabulous home from home, luxury holiday. WIFI Internet connection, leather sofas (1 sofa bed), smart HD TV, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, juicer, toaster, kettle, slow cooker and so on.

The balconies, pool and pool terrace with BBQ are illuminated at night for that perfect relaxing evening for Al Fresco entertaining and maybe a midnight swim. Plenty of outside table and chairs, sunbeds and umbrellas with a choice of locations to sit from a private terrace, to by the pool, to on each balcony.

For families with small children, the children's pool is adjacent to the main private swimming pool, ideal for the children to play safely whilst you enjoy a swim or relax on a sun bed by the pool. Moveable umbrellas with sturdy stands so that you can position the umbrella over the children's pool to protect little ones from the sun. A range of children's pool toys are available. If the children are happy, Mum and Dad are happy!

With luggage restrictions getting tighter with airlines save on your weight allowance: A travel cot with bedding is provided so no need to haul your own from home. Books, hairdryers, stairgate and beach towels are also available for your use.

The houses either side of our villa are privately owned and not used as a full time residence or holiday let, and therefore for the majority of the year they are empty. Villa Bougainvillea is indeed an oasis located amongst nature, in a peaceful and quiet location with full privacy.

*** December 2024, the Greek parliament approved a bill increasing the daily tax on short-term rental and hotel accommodation. This measure has come into effect for all arrivals January 2025 onwards. This increase aims to combat climate change and support reconstruction efforts after Greece’s 2023 extreme weather events, building resilience for a sustainable future. Going forward, the daily tax for hotel and holiday rental accommodation will increase to 15-euros per night during the summer season (2 euros per night for smaller properties).

Whilst we understand the potential budget concerns of our guests, this tax is beyond our control and we encourage our guests to see this as a way of contributing to the protection of the planet and the beautiful area where they are holidaying.

Excellent villa

This is a superb villa option and perfect for our mixed age group of parents, adult children and grandma. The villa is very clean, really well stocked with what you need and with stunning views over Souda Bay. You need a car to explore but we loved the location. Plaka has a number of restaurants and is only a short stroll away and the hidden cove of Koutalas is an absolute gem.

Villa Bougainvillea Kokkino Chorio - August 2009

We stayed here during the last two weeks of August with our two daughters and two grandchildren. The villa more than met our expectations and had everything we could have wished for. The small pool was great for the youngest child - just two years old - she gained so much confidence in the water she was in the adults pool by the second week! The access is a little steep but is more than compensated for by the view and cooling breeze. A car is essential even for trips to the local very well stocked supermarket in Plaka. Highly recommended.

building noise

The villa was as advertised however our holiday was spoilt by the noise coming from several neighbouring villas that are under construction.With constant drilling, hammering and sawing from various power tools starting at 8.00am to 4.00pm every day including weekends, we chatted to a local resident who confirmed the building works had been going on for at least the last 6 months, I am very disappointed that our hosts didn't inform us of the noise issues before we booked and paid !. I would strongly recommend that anyone thinking of booking this villa should not do so for at least 12 months hopefully by then the building works should have ceased.

Fantastic property, superb location

Our stay at Villa Bougainvillea was faultless from start to finish. The pictures of the Villa and its outstanding location do not do it justice. From the initial booking, Jennifer has been the perfect host, always responding to any queries in a timely manner and the checking in details were fantastic. We had a few issues with the water supply during our 10 day stay (something that is common in this area and we were aware of) but Jennifer did her utmost to rectify the situation and it did not affect our holiday at all. The villa has everything that you need to enjoy a relaxing break and the location is absolutely perfect for exploring western Crete. The views from the villa are breathtaking. Nearby Plaka and Almyrida are great for soaking up the holiday atmosphere with many great Tavernas. The locals are super friendly and you can be sure of a warm welcome. It was our first visit to Crete and we’ve no doubt that we’ll be returning. We have fallen completely in love with this island and made some everlasting family memories during our stay at this wonderful villa. Thank you Jennifer.

Lovely well equipped villa with stunning views

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay. The villa is very clean, well designed and well equipped - great modern appliances, aircon+ceiling fans in all rooms, lots of balconies with hooks on all doors to let air flow, extensive kitchen utensils and crockery, and pristine pool. The views are stunning. The 15min walk up to the village is lovely with a good taverna and a good mini market - and great walk back down the slopes looking across the bay at night. Easy drive to Plaka for more tavernas and mini-markets, and to Almyreda for beach days.

Villaen er placeret i perfekt til et fredeligt og afslappende opholdt Vi nydt vores aften på balkonen med en flot udsigt over bugten. og solnedgang var så smukt . Min søn elskede at svømme i poolen . Fabulous family holiday

We have just returned from a wonderful week away. The villa has the most amazing view which just made our holiday extra special. Due to the elevated position a car is essential especially for a family with younger children but in the evening the taxis were reliable and reasonably priced. The villa is well equipped and comfortable and the pool area has plenty of inflatables and toys to amuse the children. We loved the beach side restaurants in Almyrida which cost aprox 15 euros in a taxi. Contact with the owner was quick and efficient. We would love to return one day soon and would recommend this property.

So beautiful

I was there with some friends and we loved it. The view was beautiful and the Villa had everything you Need. When we arrived we had a „welcome pack“ with coffee, tea and some bread so we had a Little bit to eat. The normal Check in Time was at 2 o‘clock but we arrived earlier and it wasn‘t a Problem to Check in earlier. The Service was very good... if you Need something or you have a question they answer very fast. So the Villa and the Service are so good and you can have nice holidays there. Enjoy:)

We have stayed here for four years in a row and absolutely love it. The villa is spacious and beautiful and the views are fabulous. We really enjoy the area...a bit away from the crowds but close to great food and beaches.

We spent 1 week here as 2 families. The villa is well equipped, clean and well maintained. Julia has provided an excellent information folder which we used a lot. Plaka a 20 minute walk has some nice restaurants in the square. Complimentary starters, fruit and Raki. The Italian on the right as you go into Plaka is excellent. Kalyves is lovely with good restaurants. Car hire recommended to get around. Excellent booking process and quick response to queries from Julia the owner. Missing the view already.

Gorgeous villa, lovely pool and spectacular view

The villa was even better than the photos suggested - bright, airy, modern and clean. It was well equipped with efficient air conditioning, which was great as it was over 30C every day. The village was picturesque with a good shop and friendly taverna. We hope to return some day as we had a great week.

Fabulous house with amazing view over the sea

We, a family of five and two grandparents, really enjoyed the house and our stay in Crete. The house has all the facilities needed and particularly the view over the sea will stick in our mind. Crete was just as pleasant an experience as expected and we had a very good balance between relaxation at the pools and beach and visiting cities and the water park.

The lovely Villa Bougainvillea

Our party of three adults and three children enjoyed a wonderful week at this luxurious villa. Julia and John have created a 'home from home' feeling, nothing was overlooked, down to the last detail, even beach towels are provided. The villa was immaculately clean when we arrived, Julia's information was detailed and helpful. Apart from the prime location overlooking Souda Bay from the terraces and swimming pool area, the fittings and furnishings are tasteful and of superior quality. The pool area is well equipped with six sun loungers and two parasols, a very nice BBQ, table and chairs with cushions. The small paddling pool is ideal for smaller children and plenty of beach and water toys can be found in a box on the patio. All in all we felt the owners share very generously all their facilities and we can not recommend the villa highly enough.

Villa with fantastic view

We have stayed in the villa for two weeks in July 2011. We were three generations on the trip and this villa met all our expectations. A stunning view from all the rooms and terrasses. We spend many nights watching the sun go down behind the mountains. A very nice pool and barbeque area. We drove quite a bit around the Western part of the island and went by boat to Samaria, which is a highly recommended trip, because going by boat makes everyone able to participate, you can, in the time you have before the boat leaves again, walk and explore about 4 km into the gorge instead of walking the 18 km, also it means you can drive yourself, it´s an interesting trip with a lot of hair-pin turns and goats!

we stayed in villa from 7th-21st of june 2011, we all had an excellent time there was nothing to fault only when the heat hit 38 that was pushing it even for me who spent most of our 2 weeks in the pool , the villa was fantastic,the peace and quiet was just amazing you had no option but to relax, when we did decide to go out we had very good food ,which was also very reasonable.we also had some lovely bbq, we went out and about to chania and we drove around the mountains in and out of beautiful little villages, we all loved our holiday in crete and the fantastic villa we would highly recomend it.

Beautiful villa with fantastic sea views

We stayed at Villa Bouganvillea for one week in September 2010 and it was perfect. The accommodation is as new and is so well designed with sea views from all the balconies. Julia has thought of everything, even providing snorkelling equipment to use at the local cove in the clearest water you can imagine. The location is ideal with very little through traffic, si it's really peaceful, but within easy reach of the National road if you want to explore the rest of the island. We found that we didn't need the air conditioning. The lounge area has two doors opening to the large balcony and it was pleasant to sit in the cooling breeze enjoying the view. The ceiling fans are quiet and efficient. There are so many nice little local tavernas to choose from that we didn't actually get round to using the barbecue! This was our first visit to Crete and I hope it won't be the last. If we're lucky enough to return I'll definately book this villa (if it's free!) as I can't imagine staying anywhere nicer.

Fantastic Villa

We stayed at Villa Bougainvillea during mid-August and we were not disappointed. It was both a pleasure and a privilege to be able to share Julia and John’s beautiful home in Crete. This villa is exceptionally clean, well-appointed and comfortable. The air-conditioning and ceiling fans were brilliant and kept us cool during the hot August nights. The swimming pool was fantastic and the boys were in it within 15 minutes of our arrival! The large open plan area on the top floor is perfect for all occasions and very spacious. We ate all of our meals on the balcony overlooking the bay, and the sunsets were exceptional. The barbeque is easy to use and there are plenty of sun loungers, enough for all the family. It’s great having lovely large beach towels provided too. Plaka is within a 15-20 minute walk and has a great little supermarket and some fabulous restaurants with friendly owners. It would be easy to stay within the villa and its immediate surrounds for a whole week without having to travel anywhere. Everything you need is within walking distance or a short car ride away. A very relaxing holiday can be had here in the peace and quiet of Villa Bougainvillea. We will definitely return.

Fortnight August 2010

We fell in love with Crete and the villa! With its spectacular views over Souda Bay, the villa is perfectly positioned for a peaceful and relaxing stay. The sunsets were magnificent and the starry night skies fantastic. The accommodation itself is spacious, spotlessly clean and very well appointed. We particularly appreciated the open plan lounge and kitchen area which proved both convivial and comfortable. The numerous balconies provide great opportunities to read and relax in the shade or sun as the mood dictates. A fantastic villa to which we hope to return!

A perfect family holiday

Villa Bougainvillea was our home for a week in June. Both the villa and Crete surpassed all expectations. It is clean, fresh, well laid out and well equipped. The kitchen is fairly basic in terms of gadgetry but it does have the essentials inc. a coffee maker(for those early mornings on the balcony) and a fantastic little cooker! We adored the beautiful view and wished we could have had more time at the villa enjoying it. The pool is sparkling and our children would have been happy to spend entire days not leaving it (apart for the occassional climb up to the village for an ice cream or an unbelievably delicious donut!). When the temperature became unbearable for the children there was always a breeze to be found on one of the balconies or a lie down on with the (almost silent) overhead fan switched on. The sensible layout makes it possible for exhausted children to be watching a film in the sitting room while their parents can enjoy the beautiful sunsets and some adult time on the main balcony within an arms reach of them. The quality of the local food was fantastic and the choice of places to eat was huge. We ate out far more than we'd planned to, although barbecuing at the poolside was a scrummy alternative. This holiday was perfect for us and Villa Bougainvillea is a gem. We will definitely return!
