The location of the property was excellent. We were ideally situated close to TrentU. The property is close to stores. There is a lovely green space behind with a paved path for walking, running, biking or roller blading. The Queen sized bed was comfortable and as it is in the basement, pleasantly cool. The couch (not the same as in the photos of the property) is not a sofa bed. Our daughter slept on it but it wasn't as comfortable as a bed. Unfortunately, when we arrived we realized that the previous tenants, or family in the adjoining suite in the house must have been frying fish. The smell was overwhelming & strong. We had an air purifier intended for the dorm room, and we used that to try to reduce the unpleasant smell. Over 2 days, it reduced but never disappeared. We also discovered that there were many cockroaches in the kitchen. Between our clothes and luggage smelling of fish and our fear of bringing home roaches, everything we brought is staying outside until it can go through the wash a couple of times and then hang outside to dry. The kitchen has a full oven, fridge and microwave, but no kettle or teapot and most of the Teflon-covered cookware is peeling. The suite is well decorated and in such a great location. Admittedly we did not contact the host about the fish smell or the roaches as we could not think how the problems could be fixed in the 2 nights we were there. A large HEPA filter and an exterminator would be needed.
Check in and out was great, the first half of the stay was awesome. Sweet, a little tight to get downstairs to the bedroom but otherwise a nice place.Second half was a bit odd. No more toilet paper (the existing rolls were already there, and we were asked to go out and get our own) and the end of our stay there was some issue with bugs in the fridge and on the bed. Check in to make sure that they have solved it!
Our hosts were so very helpful and the apartment was lovely. We enjoyed the air conditioning very much as it was really hot outside. Thanks so much for hosting us!!
The host made sure were had the password for the WiFi and provided instructions on how to get the key. While the unit was fairly nice overall there were a couple of minnor issues. The front screen door was broken and the sliding padio door was a little difficult to lock at times. The frying pan was is duch poor condition we weren't willing to use. I contacted the host about it and sent pics. They were quick to respond and said they would get a replacement. Since we brought our own Air Fryer we said we would just use it.
We had booked for 13 nights. The two biggest issues during our stay was the room temperature and parking. The unit was quite warm and when I contacted the host to find out where the thermostat was they were quick to redpond letting us know the thermostat was controlled elsewhere. I mentioned we normally kept the setting at 72F at home. There were many times the temperature on the main floor, the basement was slighty cooler for sleeping, was over 72F /22.2C.
The other issue was we were instructed not to block other vehicles. When I booked I mentioned parking for a motorcycle and car would be needed. The other tenants had a half school bus and two cars. On a couple of different occasions we had to ask someone to move a vehicle so we could get in or out.
While it wasn't our worst place to stay with the heat and parking issues we wouldn't stay there again.
The property was clean and well-maintained. However, parking was a bit of a challenge due to multiple vehicles, including a school bus and a car that appeared to have not been moved for some time. There was no internet during my stay, which may have been due to an outage. Aside from these minor inconveniences, it was a pleasant stay. Thank you!
