About this property
Provencal Style Villa with pool in rural Provence. 5 minutes walk to the village
Les Rays is within walking distance of the medieval hilltop village of Callas with its shops, twice weekly street market, bars and restaurants. This elevated, south facing, Provencal style villa, set within 1.2 acres of olive and fruit trees, sleeps 8 and is ideal for families wishing to enjoy the beaches of the Cote D’Azur or the host of activities available in the Gorges de Verdon area. It would equally suit a couple or group of friends, seeking the peace and quiet of rural Provence and excellent food and wine. During warm weather, enjoy the large, secure, private pool and the breath-taking views from its terrace. Please note the pool is situated behind and above the house accessed by several steps, the position enhances the views and offers excellent privacy. The lounge / dining room is light and airy in the summer and opens out onto the terrace and garden. In the cooler months the house is cosy and warm with a wood burning fire. There are 4 bedrooms, 3 on the ground floor, each one with double doors opening out on the south facing terrace. 1 bedroom is a double, one a twin and one has a bunk bed. There is a downstairs bathroom with bath and shower, toilet and washbasin and also a separate toilet. The 1st floor master bedroom has a king size bed and an en-suite bathroom and shower. It also has a roof terrace where you can enjoy fresh croissants for breakfast whilst taking in the stunning views of the countryside and the village or an aperitif in the evening, watch the sunset and admire the floodlit village church.

Why they chose this property
We bought the house in Callas as we love the unspoilt Var area of rural Provence and the fact that you can walk to the village of Callas with its shops, restaurants and twice weekly market. We can enjoy the other hilltop villages such as Bargemon and Fayence but we are also close to the beaches and it is an easy drive to Nice airport. We looked at several properties but Les Rays stood out from the rest because of the breathtaking view from the pool terrace and the upstairs roof terrace and that the house is so light and airy and completely private. Matthew loved the size of the pool and the boules area.
What makes this property unique
A typical day at Les Rays. Coffee on the roof terrace of the 1st floor bedroom listening to the church bells. Walk down to the village to buy fresh croissants and baguettes for breakfast on the terrace. If it is market day (Tues or Sat), have coffee at the Hotel de France with warm pastries from the boulangerie. The stalls sell local produce and there are some great gift ideas. The rest of the day you have a choice of the pool with its all day sunshine, visiting the area by car (a must - The Gorges de Verdon), a trip to the Cote d'Azur, picnics, walking, lunch in one of the hilltop villages with a glass of chilled rose de Provence. Visit the Office de Tourisme in Callas - there are activities to suit all tastes and ages. In the winter, you can ski in Grenoliers which is around 50 minutes drive. Dinner in Callas, Claviers or Bargemon - a huge choice of restaurants or a BBQ at the house but stock up with the local wine from one of the numerous vineyards beforehand! Digestive on the roof terrace to take in the view of the Gorges de Pennafort one more time before bed.
