About this property

Hale Luana: Private Home on 2.5 Acres w/Ocean Views, Hot Tub, & 600 sq ft Lanai

Welcome to Hale Luana, the house of comfort and relaxation. This grand home is so comfortable you will not want to leave. Located just south of famed Honoka'a on the historic Hamakua Coast and close to Waipio Valley, Waimea, waterfalls, quaint shopping spots and ocean adventure areas.

***Please note: all rates apply to 2 guests. Additional guests are $50 per night plus taxes. Maximum occupancy is 10 guests.***

Our on-site (located in a downstairs detached dwelling) caretakers are available for guests who would like a greeting and orientation to the estate and are readily available to assist you during your stay. Parents please be aware that the property is not safe for walking babies, toddlers or small children because of many unprotected stairs, high-end and breakable decor. We welcome older children and infants (equipment is provided including a port-a-crib, high chair, pack'n'play and infant gym).

As you enter the 2.5 acre property through the palm lined driveway, you'll know you've found your 'home away from home'. Walk up the wide front stairs and pause on the front lanai to enjoy the expansive lawn and garden views. Then step inside and be greeted by the grand, open living spaces. The living room, dining area and kitchen are all open with a high, vaulted ceiling and wide sliding doors that open onto the huge lanai with an ocean view. Trade breezes flow through the plantation style house daily. Our favorite spot is the 600 square foot back lanai where you can gaze upon the ocean, dine on the teak table with seating for 6 or walk down to the hot tub on the deck below. The kitchen is stocked with everything you'll need for cooking 'today's catch' or farmer's market produce. The living room has plenty of comfortable seating for your group, a flat screen TV, stereo and music library. Additional to the outside dining is the inside dining with another long table and seating for 10. Just off the kitchen is a large reading room with 4 comfy chairs and ottomans and a full library to indulge in.

While the living spaces of the house are all open concept, the 4 bedrooms are each contained in one of the four corners of the house for utmost privacy. Both the Primary Bedroom and Bedroom 2 have king size beds, en-suite bathroom, flat screen TV and access to the back lanai through French doors that are screened in case you want to sleep with the doors open and the breezes and sounds of nature. The Primary Suite also includes walk-in closets. The Primary Bathroom is elegantly designed with a walk-in marble shower with 2 shower heads and marble bench as well as a soaking tub, a separate WC and double vanity sinks. Bedrooms 3 and 4 share a luxurious bathroom complete with marble tile and a bathtub with a shower. Bedroom 3 has a king size bed and flat screen TV and Bedroom 4 has a queen size bed and lovely garden views. Each of the 4 bedrooms is finished with high quality linens, elegant touches, ceiling fan and view of either the ocean or gardens. There is additional sleeping on a single pull-out bed in the living room and a couch with a firm, down cushion long enough for a small adult to comfortably sleep.

Hale Luana is the complete gathering spot vacation rental. With plenty of room for each guest to spread out inside or out, a large hot tub and 600 square foot ocean view lanai. This is a place you'll come back to year after year....start your experience now!

***Please note that this property is not equipped with air conditioning. It does however feature excellent ventilation with ceiling fans throughout.***

What a Beautiful Home/Property

This is an amazing place to stay. It is a quiet neighborhood. The house has everything you need plus some! Very spacious, it even has a sitting area to chat or just pick up one of the many books provided. We enjoyed the Large Lanai every morning & evening, taking in the views, and the beautiful music of nature. If we had a question or needed anything, James was there- he's great! All we can say is, we loved the place and wish we could have stayed longer. Would we go back? Absolutely!!! Thanks again to the owner for sharing your beautiful home!

Honoka’a's Best!

My three adult children, spouses, and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at this house. It was exactly as described: isolated, welcoming, relaxing. The large lanai was ideal for sipping morning coffee while watching the ocean. We enjoyed meals and playing cards at the large dining table. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was spacious, and everything was very clean. Bring earplugs as the roosters and cows are noisy before 5 AM. There is no ceiling fan in Bedroom #4.

Totally not what’s advertised

Not private!!!! Single home double level, renters live down below. Fridge didn’t work stove didn’t work. Dryer didn’t work as full of bug infestation as any place on the island. Was a nice place but has totally been let go. Definitely not what’s advertised

Delightful

Our experience at Hale Luna was truly delightful. The house offered ample space, a breathtaking view, a peaceful neighborhood, and was equipped with everything necessary for our comfort. The hosts went above and beyond, regularly checking in on us to ensure our needs were met and providing valuable recommendations for local attractions and dining options. We couldn't have asked for a better stay.

Authentic Hawaii

Hale Luana offers a beautiful ocean view located in a peaceful setting, away from the bustle of town. The pastoral sounds of cows, roosters, dogs, and geckos are part of its charm. This unique home offers spacious living quarters and a well-equipped, full kitchen. Our hosts were very helpful, attentive, and offered good advice about local sights. Mahalo!

Great experience

Overall, we had a great time at Hale Luana. The lanai is fabulous and we spent a lot of time out there watching the waves, listening to the cows and chickens nearby and gazing at the stars. The house is just as listed . Very spacious and comfortable. Communication with the onsite caretakers was excellent! Hope to visit again in the future.

It is relaxing to stay at a place that you don't even have to worry about locking the doors when you leave. Louise lives down stairs and assured us that the house is in a very safe area. We had a wonderful time in Hawaii. Garth

14 days in Paradise!

We wanted to get away from the harsh Boston winter and thought of trying something different as it was our first visit to Big Island. This house did not disappoint, pictures in the listing did not do it justice. The house is beautiful! Clean and well stocked with every amenity you can imagine. The open plan living room/dining area is furnished with high end teak furniture, modern and clutter free. The kitchen looked like it was from a magazine. The expansive Lanai with ocean views stretched across the width of the house. Each of the end master bedrooms had french doors opening to the lanai, We slept with the doors open all night, lulled by the sound of ocean waves. It was the best nights’ sleep ever! We woke to the crows of roosters and the moos of cows. The pantry was well stocked with spices and basics, anything else needed was a short drive to Foodland in the next town of Waimea. We were happy that James, the host and caretaker was a text away. He lives in the unit below and whenever we needed anything he would appear with it. He is a delight to talk to, very knowledgeable about the area. We did day trips to Volcano Park, Waipio Valley, had a fancy dinner at Merriman’s, Hawaiian cowboy BBQ at Fish and Hog and malasadas at Tex-Drivein. The historic town of Honokaa is 10 minutes away, we loved the little museum. Farmers’ markets and Wednesdays and Saturdays are a must see. All in all the house is a way to experience true Hawaii. We are making plans to come back next winter.

A true "out of the way" gem on the Big Island

I have been to Hawaii over 60 times and I wanted to stay away from it all and have a different Big Island experience and this lovely home did not disappoint. This house was one of the most well stocked VRBO's I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in countless. The location was isolated and perfect with a beautiful lanai to take it all in. Our host could not have been more communicative and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a truly special Hawaiian paradise location away from the hustle and bustle and yet close to Waimea, Waipio and Hilo. 5 stars all around.

Peaceful escape

This house is amazing!! While it was further out of Waimea than anticipated it was a blessing! Big family dinners each night. Coffee on the Lanai every morning with the light drizzle, breeze and ocean view. House is well appointed from kitchen to beach towels and toys ( no need to pack this stuff). The rooms are all so comfortable with fans and/or screen doors for fresh air. 45 minutes to Holland an hour to Kona it is perfectly placed. Stay here — you will not regret it😀

Nice house near Honokka

Our group of 5 adults was happy with the house. The house was clean and well-equipped and was adequately separated from the neighboring houses. The listing was accurate about the amenities and layout. There are a lot of roosters and other animals in the neighborhood so there was a lot of crowing, and mooing and barking and chirping in the very early morning. However, we adapted to the sound after a couple of days.

Christmas Paradise

My family and I had the trip of a life time at the Hale Luana property. Louise and James the property managers tended to our every need. We got to experience the beauty of the Big Island right from the beautiful balcony that has great views of the ocean. The home is equipped with all of your needs, including a great grill and every kitchen utensil and cookware that you will need for your stay. The home is extremely spacious and throughout the day when the windows and patio doors are open you can feel the breeze from the ocean. The community was so inviting and even gave us local fruits and avocados to eat. I could go on and on, but this property is a must, especially if you want to enjoy the beauty of the Big Island. Can't wait to return. Carla

We had a wonderful stay at Hale Luana. It was restful & generally quiet. That was much appreciated. The house was well-equipped and all on one level. The kitchen was amazing. The Lani and view are amazing. Every room just called for you to spend time there. A sitting area just off the entrance became my wife's favorite location for her craft work. I used one end of the dinning table to set up my laptop and the files I brought to work on. The view out to the ocean will capture you attention. We watched three whales linger in the area and performed their courtship frolic. You are an hour's drive away from Akaka Falls and two world-class botanical gardens. In the other direction you have the isolated Waipio Valley. Having James & Louise nearby available for questions or assistance is a big plus for this property. If you have an issue or need it gets address promptly. When we return to this corner of Hawaii we intend to stay here again.

Great area, beautiful location and Home, simply the best people!

This is Nancy and my second trip to Honokaa. We love this small town for its charm, slow pace and kind people. If you like fast, traffic and lots of people stay in Kona. This is the perfect location from which to explore the island, fifty minutes to charming Hilo, just over an hour to Kona and you are close to Waipio Valley and many beautiful waterfalls and vibrant nature trails. Hale Launa is a beautiful home. You would think that the owners just stepped out for a few days and have left you with all the goodies necessary to feel at home and at ease. This house is perfectly appointed, large and spacious, and has a wonderful lenai from which you can enjoy beautiful scenery and the ocean. We saw whales twice will here. Louise is incredible, she is unobtrusive and out of sight, yet responsed quickly to any questions you may have. Treat yourself. Enjoy the local food, people, beauty and beautiful Hale Launa.

Beautiful House

The house is beautiful and does not lack in amenities. The kitchen is well stocked and provides any tool you may desire. The library is stocked with a great variety of books and games which was a pleasure to puruse. The abundant nature sounds are intriguing yet the house offers enough of a barrier to sleep soundly. The bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately the cleanliness was disappointing. The house looks/is a bit neglected with many small maintenance items needing attention. When I pointed out the concern about the cleanliness to the caretaker she was more than helpful and recalled the cleaner. Also some of the maintenance items were addressed. She also assured me that the stained bedroom carpet was just waiting the arrival of the new carpets and will be replaced. The property is lovely however has been left to go wild as the grass was uncut and the yard around the hot tub is un-kept. With all this said the house ticked all the boxes for a quiet and natural Hawaiian vacation.

Wonderful Family Getaway!

Our family had a great time at Hale Luana - we felt right at home when walked in. The layout/floor plan was perfect for us as we wanted 4 separate and private bedrooms. The marble bathrooms, especially the master bath felt luxurious, with endless hot water, which we all loved. Beds were so comfortable that a couple of us didn't want to get up! The kitchen had everything we needed, even a juicer for the oranges and tangerines we picked. We ate breakfast on the lanai, and when we didn't eat out, had dinner inside at a huge table. We took advantage of the light dimmers, CD collection and had meals we'll always remember. The town of Honokaa is only about 5 minutes away and is really charming with wonderful shops and galleries that aren't typical 'tourist traps', a number of really good restaurants, a small, but well stocked grocery store and even an old time movie theatre that shows first run movies and also has live concerts. We learned it's called the Big Island for a reason. Long drives to everywhere, but the amazing scenery and changing landscapes and climates made every excursion an adventure. Best of all, we got to enjoy it all from Hale Luana! We're planning to come back next year, stay a lot longer because we didn't want to leave.
