About this property
Manoir des Vites, stunning country house set amongst the vineyards of Bordeaux
Perfect for family holidays and celebrations, "Les Vites" offers space, timeless charm and beautifully thought out deco.
EXTERIOR
The garden is large.
There is a large lawn for playing badminton, croquet or football. We have a terraced orchard with plums, cherries, walnuts, apples and figs
Within the garden there are several distinct seating areas. Underneath the trees there are tables and chairs set up for 16 - making it a perfect place for an evening barbecue.
There is a larger than average swimming pool - 14 x 4 meters - set in a fenced sunken garden. Complete with pool house where you can escape the heat of the midday sun and have a siesta, read or listen to music. Inside the poolhouse is a large dining table and a sofa. Leading out of the french doors is a gravel garden with tables and chairs.
Cool inside, the house is welcoming and comfortable. There is an old fashioned, well has a terraced orchard, a gravel garden with tables and chairs and plenty of grass for family games of football. badminton etc. There is a larger than average swimming pool set in a fenced sunken garden complete with pool house. Should you want to escape the heat of the midday sun the orangery/poolhouse is a perfect haven for a siesta, for reading or listening to music also set up with a large dining table and a sofabed. There are several other distinct eating areas outside. You can choose amongst them whether to lounge by the pool( several loungers available) with a cool drink or to sit in the shade of the trees and enjoy a barbecue (tables and chairs for 16), or to watch the sun go down in the comfort of a vintage rattan chair or swinging sofa.
Cool inside, the house is welcoming and comfortable. There is an old fashioned, well loved feeling about this family house. All the rooms have large proportions and are light filled. The bedrooms are furnished with a mixture of French and English antiques and textiles.
On the ground floor there is a sitting room with a selection of DVDs, board games and books, a formal dining room, a well equipped country kitchen - the delight of many a visiting cook-, a playroom/utility room and an indispensable cool larder. The ground floor also has an enormous bedroom with en suite bathroom (here there is a large walk in shower) deliberately designed to facilitate guests with mobility issues). Accessibility and inclusion on the ground floor has been an important consideration.
The property lies in a 5 acre or 3 and half hectare fenced garden which is set amongst a rolling landscape of sunflowers, vineyards and plum orchards. Les Vités itself is a stone built manor house dating from 1860. The house ticks, all the boxes of idyllic French country life and is within easy reach of both Bordeaux and Bergerac airports. The local market towns of Duras and Monségur with its popular jazz Festival are full of bars and busy restaurants. There are a daily farmers markets in different villages as well as the unmissable night markets.
Les Vites is an ideal base from which to visit the vineyards of Bordeaux, St Emilion and the Sauternes. On the bucket list of any winelover. There are plenty of videgreniers and brocantes throughout the summer to satisfy the veteran treasure hunter as well as enough historical monuments to satisfy the most demanding culture vulture. However our guests have often found it difficult to escape the sleepy embrace of holiday bien-être that lies in Les Vités.

About the host

We are an anglo irish family who have lived in France for ages, Our children have been brought up here and consequently this is very much a family house. It has not been done up to let specifically as a rental and retains an easy and well loved feeling of family life...
Why they chose this property
The house lies in an almost magical valley where time seems to stand still. The fields surrounding the house are a patchwork of sunflowers, maize, vines and plum orchards. Toads can be heard singing amorously through the nights of spring as can nightingales during the day. Swifts cut through the air like arrows and dragonflies hover while buzzards scowl from fence posts. Wander out at night and gaze at the brightness of the moon and stars.
If you tire of being far from the madding crowd there are bustling market towns nearby with good restaurants and lively bars and not to forget the ever night markets and vide greniers.
Enjoying a day out in Bordeaux is easy either by train or car.
