16th Century Manoir; Large Ensuite Bedrooms, Original Features, Many Steps!
A 100 meter drive leads from the main D57 road to the manoir with plenty of parking to the left in front of the barn. Enter the tower on mostly 500 year old, well worn, stone spiral steps to the hall. The ground floor boasts 4m high beamed ceilings. The dining room retains original 16th century fireplace, the salon is dominated by an immense fireplace and displays hand painted ceiling beams. The kitchen is furnished with all the utensils, pots glasses, cups and dishes you'll need. Meals can be enjoyed in the kitchen, dining room, or on the patio with direct access from the kitchen and salon. There are six large ensuite bedrooms, some of which retain 1970's style and show their age, yet are still comfortable by modern standards. The 5m x 9m unheated swimming pool is about 40 meters from the house and open from May to September. Two walled gardens, one of which is gated and provides a contained space for children or pets to romp. Direct views of chateaux Marqueyssac, Castelnaud, and Beynac to the south and west await you, and you'll likely see hot air balloons in the mornings and evenings. We are happy to offer advice for activities in the area, nature walks from the house, tourist sites, restaurants, and we are especially bicycling friendly. Bakery, butcher, restaurants and convenience stores are within 3km at Beynac and Castelnaud while Supermarkets are just 8km away in Sarlat and 12km in St Cyprien. Linens, towels and beach towels, as well as end of week cleaning is included with the price. We think that you will love it here so much you won't want to go home!

Everything was just right, with an easy checking in process, help on hand if we needed it. The kitchen was very well equipped and the laundry facilities were particularly useful. The pool was enjoyed by everyone. This was a memorable time in a special place with our children and grandchildren. Our thanks to our hosts for providing such a wonderful venue.
Absolutely perfect stay. The rooms were amazing, the pool was perfect. We're already thinking about coming back for longer next year. The area is really interesting with lots of interesting and beautiful towns and chateaux to visit nearby, as well as great food and gorgeous landscapes, canoeing on the Dordogne all a couple of minutes away. Dan and Karen were brilliant, helpful but never invasive, and they have stocked the house with comfy furniture, luxurious beds, good quality kitchen utensils and lots of little areas to sit and be together. It's just a really wonderful place.

Where to start. This is such a magical property to stay in.
Our hosts gave us a wonderful welcome, and were always available to answer any questions we had.
The actual accommodation is simply superb, and anything that you could think of was supplied. I was cooking for a small group, and I have never had such a well equiped kitchen in any previous accommodation I have used.
The location is fantastic for sightseeing.
I cannot recommend this property enough.
Our extended family of ten spent an all too brief week at Karen and Dan’s sublime 16th century manse. The stone walls kept it cool inside - the kitchen was well equipped for family meals- the location is perfect for all you’ll want to do in this glorious region. The beds were extremely comfortable. It was very quiet and impeccably clean. And it’s amazing for each bedroom to be supplied with its own bathroom. The owners’ proximity for advice and assistance was invaluable. Everywhere you looked your eyes fell on nothing but beauty.
Our extended family (grandfather, his children and their children) gathered at this special truly unique home over a period of three weeks. Years ago we had spent some time in the Dordogne and always wanted to come back. We could not have had a more beautiful or memorable time than we did in Vezac. The house is spacious, inviting and well-equipped. The vistas are stunning. The pool was refreshing and a lovely spot for gathering. We had perfect weather and enjoyed all our meals at the tables out of doors, often with hot air balloons wafting overhead. As hosts, Dan and Karen were gracious, thoughtful and attentive to details. We appreciated the good sheets and towels, fine soap, local goodies, and well-stocked kitchen and laundry. They also offered excellent advice for markets to visit, places to eat, and walking trails to local villages. The area is rich with history, culture, food and activities. We loved every minute of our stay in this extraordinary spot. We'd love to come back.
We are a family of four. We stayed for a week and had various friends and family stay for short periods throughout the week ranging from 2 to 85 years old and everyone absolutely loved it. The property is stunning, the photos don’t do it justice. It is perfectly located in between beautiful towns and villages with perfect views to Chateauxs with hot air balloons in the morning.
The hosts Dan and Karen have perfected the ideal blend of being welcoming, available, attentive whilst allowing you to peacefully enjoy your stay.
The kitchen is really well equipped with complimentary local biscuits and coffee.
The property is immaculately well kept with every small detail thought of. The beds are really comfortable, the water pressure in the showers is brilliant. The pool is clean and perfect for larger groups as well as small.
We also had our two dogs. They were very welcoming and dog friendly and there are wonderful walks in the surrounding area.
We booked our next stay here before we left and can’t wait to come back.

Great house & good location to see the Dordogne Region.
We all enjoyed our stay. Many Chateaus and Troglodyte cave dwellings to see within a short drive and the pool provided an excellent place to relax afterwards. Facilities and furnishings in the house exceeded our expectations. Patio for dining out pleasantly shaded. Kitchen was adequate but could be a little larger, and due to unusually high temperatures while we were there, the top floor dormer bedrooms got rather hot, but fans are provided.

About the host
Hosted by Daniel Westerdale
I'm American, Karen is British. We lived in North Yorkshire, England from 1996-2019. I'm a keen cyclist and we both love to travel. I'm retired and Rochecourbe is our first experience with renting out our property on a weekly basis. Since buying the house in 2016, and moving here in 2019, we've made many improvements to the house and grounds ourselves and hope to continue to make Manoir de Rochecourbe better every year. - Dan
Why they chose this property
Fantastic views of chateaux Beynac, Castelnaud, and Marqeyssac, reinforce that this is a special location, perfect for visiting many of the most popular sites. The position of the house below the western slope of a hill prevents the sun from blazing too early, and provides for sunny evenings. Frequent appearance of hot air balloons in the early mornings or evenings add to the local specific charm. Local convenience store, butcher and boulangerie are only 2.5km in Beynac, and several supermarkets are just 10km away in Sarlat or St Cyprien. Access to the house is straightforward, easy, and we have plenty of room to park several vehicles. We are just off a main road, so getting around the area is especially easy.
What makes this property unique
Manoir de Rochecourbe has a simple floor plan with impressive features: high, beamed ceilings, painted beams, large ensuite bedrooms, spiral stone steps in the tower, and of course the two original 16th century fireplaces and the huge fireplace in the living room. The proximity to Sarlat, the Dordogne River, Lascaux Caves, and wine regions of Cahors and Bergerac make it ideally situated to enjoy the entire Dordogne region. We own 4 hectares of fields and woods on the slope above the house which are open for exploration, walking dogs, chasing butterflies, or just finding a quiet spot to relax.
