About this property

One bedroom cottage in the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty.

Picture this, you’ve returned home after a day of exploring one of our many local attractions, and you’re relaxing watching the magnificent sunset. If you sit there long enough, you might even see a starling display in the sky. Sound good? Robin Cottage is the perfect place for you.

It has a good-sized sitting/dining area, together with an open plan kitchen which lends itself to maximum comfort and relaxation. The bedroom is situated upstairs and can have either double or twin beds as desired. It comes with a fully equipped en suite bathroom with an over-bath shower, WC and hand basin.

If you’re planning a larger family gathering but want your own space, Robin Cottage is perfect because it can be joined to Kingfisher Cottage to increase living space. After enjoying the purpose built footpaths around the farm you can often see the sheep Dog’s playing from the living room window after their hard working day, which can often turn a bit vocal!. Robin Cottage has a level entry front door and a designated parking space just a few metres from the front door.

No dogs allowed in this Cottage.

Dog owners and walkers
Ideal location for walkers and pet owners, with the Pennine Way running across the land. The cottages are excellent, clean and comfortable. Being located on a working sheep farm does mean dogs need to be under control at all times.

Farm holiday
Our overall impression of property excellent owners and staff excellent always there to help. Excellent walks on property farm workers always there with a cheerful face and a chat. Would suggest bench tables out on green would be nice to sit of an evening and socialise.

About the host

We are a family who have been working in agriculture for more than 50 years, we moved to East Mellwaters Farm nearly twenty years ago and our son, Andrew who is severely disabled and confined to a wheelchair all his life asked if he could have the derelict old dairy granary to convert into four cottages to be able to welcome everybody. This was the start of Mellwaters Barn Cottages.

East Mellwaters farm is a 345 acres natural grassland commercial farm where we breed sheep, spring is of course one of the most interesting times when we have over 1500 lambs. The farm itself we believe is built on the site of a Roman settlement with the old Roman road from Bowes running through parts of the farm up the valley to Spittal and beyond to the top of Stainmore.

We are proud that East Mellwaters Farm has been in an Environmental Stewardship Scheme for nearly 30 years to help protect our natural grassland for the benefit of some of the less common species of birds and wildflowers.
