About this property

THE STABLES, self catering cottage

The converted stables is set in the grounds of an 18th century Georgian Hunting Lodge. Rock Cottage Country House is on The Wild Atlantic Route and is just ten minutes from Schull, Goleen & Durrus. Schull is a coastal village with numerous boutiques, pubs and restaurants, art galleries, library and good food shops plus a weekly market on Sun We are well situated for The Mizen Head, The Sheep's Head and The Beara Peninsula. Close by we have beautiful beaches including one of Ireland's finest beaches, Barley cove.
Outside guests can roam around the 17 acres of grounds, hillside and visit the animals. From the top of the hill there is a bench where guest can sit and enjoy the 360 degree view over the hills and Mount Gabriel. There is also a Chalet available, the perfect glamping holiday.
We are dog friendly and have two golden retrievers who love other dogs.

3rd time here - fabulous as always

This was our third time staying here and we adore it. The property itself is fantastic and the grounds are stunning. We love seeing the animals and being welcomed by Saffron and Elsa! Our own doggies had a fantastic well also. The hosts are so lovely and we always feel very welcome. The location is ideal for sight seeing around West Cork. Would highly recommend.

Restful Haven

We stayed here as part of our three week driving holiday. The accommodation was great but the location always requires a drive-- restaurants, groceries, etc. It depends on your comfort with daily driving on narrow twisty roads. The hosts were always helpful--extra blankets and tire pressure checks. Thanks again.

Rock cottage in autumn

Rock cottage is es wonderfull place with very friendly hosts, cute dogs, donkeys, ponies and chicken. We had great holidays there with a lot of walking tours, the beautiful coast and lovely villages. We had a fabulous stay at Rock Cottages!!

I would highly recommend a stay at the “Stables “ at Rock Cottages near Schull! So peaceful , beautiful gardens and accommodation is so cute.. my sister and I stayed with my two dogs end of July 2019 and our hosts Jacqueline and Jonathan were so welcoming and friendly calling to give us free range eggs and freshly caught mackerel and checking that everything was ok with accommodation. We also really loved all the farm animals... Elsa and Saffron were so nice and really placid dogs.. and as for Barnie an Bonnie the donkey - what characters... we also got to feed the hens and geese which was great fun. Again loved our time there and will definitely return again !!

romantisches Cottage

Das kleine Cottage ist wirklich süß und sehr romantisch. Für uns als Paar war es perfekt. Die Umgebung ist der unglaublich schön, man hat kleine Fischerorte und traumhafte Strände in der Nähe. Auch Ausflüge sind von hier aus gut machbar, jedoch sollte man ein Auto haben. Das Grundstück ist toll, die Tiere und die tollen grünen Wiesen hier kann man wirklich abschalten. Wir hätten uns nur gewünscht das "the Stables" etwas besser beheizt und sauberer wäre, leider waren viele Spinnweben im Raum und es war etwas klamm. Wir empfehlen "the Stables" auf jeden Fall weiter.

Beautiful accommodation in a great location with a lot of lovely animals

We stayed at the stables in july. It was a lovely accommodation in a great location. Unfortunately there were some very rainy days in this time, but it didn't really matter, because we felt like home and could read a good book at this time. There is a nice little way to walk directly behind the cottage. We had a lot of fun with the lovely animals. The donkeys loved their carrots, and the dogs and a cat visited us very often. Jackie and Jonathan are very friendly hosts. Excursions in the surrounding areas one shouldn't miss are Mizen Head, Sheep's Head and even Barleycove Beach.

The Stables ist ein wunderschönes kleines Landhaus mit geschmackvoller Einrichtung und allem was man für einen entspannten Aufenthalt braucht. Man möchte gar nicht mehr woanders hin. Our stay at The Stables at Rock Cottage was incredible! The accommodation is very warm, inviting, and comfortable. We looked forward each evening to coming "home" to a cheery fire and a glass of wine. Jackie and Jonathan were wonderful and made us feel right at home. We were enjoying our stay so much that we really didn't want to leave! There are many beautiful places to visit in the area and we highly recommend staying here as a base from which to explore!

Superior accommodation, lovely welcome

The Stables are just as lovely in real life as in the photos, perhaps more so. A reassuring newness is tastefully dressed in a warm, homely decor, cute and cosy. Our hosts were most friendly, calm and helpful, the facilities are well managed and the complex of buildings (and animals) has a wonderful charm. Bathrooms and kitchen are all pleasantly modern and the timber stove kept us aglow all night. We stayed in January when many amenities and cafes are closed but the surrounding landscape more than compensates in its stunning beauty. We found a handful of good restaurants still open, cruised the peaceful, empty roads by the sea and marvelled at the winter sun slanting over Sheep's Head and Barleycove beach, two nearby locations that should not be missed. Ultimately, we wanted to stay for longer. It's difficult to find self-catering accommodation of this standard in Ireland and we hope to return.

Our 4 day stay at the Stables was wonderful. Tasteful interior, quiet surrounding, beautiful garden and very nice hosts. This is the perfect base to explore the south-westcoast.
